1 night at Total Eclipse Dome

PK was a cool host, super communicative and easy to get in touch with, and also made sure we had clear instructions for access and entry. We ended up staying in the cabin instead of the dome, but he was really accommodating and it was quaint, warm and comfortable. In the morning, PK came by and he let us know about some waterfalls and a gorge nearby that only took a short hike to get to. All in all, super host and lovely property - hoping to visit again.

Weekend Trip to Rooted Acres Farm

We had such a lovely stay here! The host was incredibly responsive to all our questions, and the cabin was exactly what we were looking for. It came with a portable heater inside that kept us warm at night (just remember to turn on the gas outside first!). Without proper winter clothing, it might be a bit chilly to stay here during the colder months, but we went toward the end of October and it was still perfect! And the hot tub!! Such a clever and wonderful addition! Just a heads up: you’ll need to build a strong fire to get it hot within about 3 hours, and you’ll likely want to make two fires - one for the tub and another to sit back and enjoy. Be sure to bring lanterns, as it gets dark pretty quickly once the sun sets. Even though we had cloudy skies, we could tell that on a clear night the stargazing would be incredible. The cabin is well-equipped with dishes and running water for light cooking, brushing teeth, etc. There’s also a small convenience store about 8 minutes away on the main road. Overall, we would highly recommend this place. We had a fantastic time and will definitely be returning!

Great site with close proximity to Stowe. Seamless check-in; we just confirmed we had arrived. Host was helpful with restaurant recommendations. Others have pointed out that there are houses surrounding the site. I had read the reviews so this was no surprise. We angled our van so that we had the mountain views. I would camp here again.

We loved our stay in the Cabin at Louella’s place. It was peaceful, had a lovely view of the mountains, and everything we needed for a rustic weekend stay. The bed was comfortable with plenty of warm blankets available. We brought sleeping bags and a small propane heater that kept us warm enough. We hope to visit again in the future and would recommend the cabin to anyone looking for a cozy stay.

The campsite is roughly 10m x 30m (30' x 100'), large enough for several tents or a small camper/RV. It is accessed by a sloped 50m (about 150') gravel driveway. The narrowest part of the driveway is 2.6m (about 8.5 feet). There is a 3m x 3m (10' x 10') tent platform and a large picnic table. Firewood is provided. Near our home about 120m/400 feet away through the trees but relatively private. Within a short pedal or drive to some of the best mountain biking and hiking Vermont has to offer, 15 minutes to Richmond and Hinesburg, and just a half hour to Burlington. Electricity on site, primitive fire pit, but no other facilities, so ALL waste must be packed out. We have a bucket commode to loan if you don’t have your own.

This 150-acre property has been in our family for 32 years and now houses three generations. Built in 1900 it was a traditional dairy farm until the 50's and 60's when potatoes were planted on the fields for the Boston and New York markets. By the 70's and 80's it became a gentleman's farm for a retired couple from New York City and the dairy farmers nearby hayed the fields. When we purchased the property in 1993 we continued offering the hay, built greenhouses, planted vegetable and flower gardens, ran a traditional Bed and Breakfast, now airbnb. We leased some of the fields to a local organic seed company for 13 years until they purchased their own property. The farm remains certified organic and is still being hayed by a local dairy farm, the gardens are community managed using regenerative and sustainable practices when ever possible. In the commercial garden, seed crops are being planted once again. Much of the cultivated agricultural land is protected under the Vermont Land Trust, to ensure that it remains used for agricultural purposes. We love to share our farm and forest with others. In addition to our very intentional farming operations, you can find wild edibles tucked away on forest trails. Wildlife and wildflowers abound. Views and sunsets. Check out the 968 acre wildlife management area that abuts the property. Plenty of trails through the woods leading to Wolcott Pond and hidden beaver huts and dams. Children 12 and under no charge. Our little pond behind the big greenhouse has filled up a bit more this spring which you are welcome to use for dipping or frog watching. Carry in and carry out property, Drive on field's edge only. About

Don’t trustingly put Knight Island State Park into the GPS and start driving--you'll end up swimming with the fish. This 185-acre island is located 2 miles east of North Hero, Vermont in the northern end of Lake Champlain’s “inland sea," and is only accessibly by boat. Bring your own vessel or arrange for a water taxi (unfortunately not on Uber yet, but you can call Driftwood Tours for a ride). Be warned that there are no docks on the island, so beaching or anchoring off-shore are your only options.

This is a trip for naturists who are ok with being at the whim of the Lake Champlain’s forces. This off-the-grid location is rumored to be a contender for the next “Survivor" destination (but you didn’t hear it from us!).

When to go

The ideal time to visit Knight Island State Park is during the warmer months, from late spring to early fall, when the weather is pleasant for outdoor activities. Winter can be harsh, with limited access and fewer services, making it less suitable for a visit.

Know before you go

Check weather conditions before your trip, as the island's weather can change rapidly.
Ensure you have a valid park pass and are aware of the operating hours, typically from 8:30am to 5pm.
Prepare for limited cell service; plan your activities and navigation ahead of time.
Respect the park's wildlife and natural habitats by following the 'Leave No Trace' principles.

Knight Island Campground

Knights Island is a fantastic camping location if you can get there. There are 7 camp sites: 1 tent, 6 lean-to site’s and one of these is a group site with 2 lean-to’s (that would be the Birch site). We stayed at Stoney Point on east side. We loved the view & privacy - can't see or hear your neighbors. It had rained so the ground around our lean-to was muddy but we made do. Each site has its own latrine toilet, and picnic table; there is a ranger on the island if you need help and hey there is also cell service for those who need a little connection else turn it off and be off-grid. Hike the island or boat around it. Fishing was also popular. Day visitors use the public picnic area near ranger house.
