This wooded area is 5 miles away from the Ohiopyle State Park whitewater launch area and GAP bike trail. We are less than 9 miles from Frank Lloyd Wright's Classic Fallingwater and about 8 miles from Kentuck Knob one of the last resident homes he designed (both are open for tours). Fort Necessity National Battlefield is 5 miles away. There are numerous native trout streams in the area. Youghiogheny Reservoir is 7 miles away for fishing, boat rentals, and water-sports.
The Fern House is the primary camp cabin on the property. Although if someone would want to park a "self contained" camper or small RV on the property we would permit the unit to occupy the area in front of the driveway just pass the entrance gate. It is not within the ferns and is next to the road. There is an electrical outlet available at this small RV or van camper site.
We are "nice pet" friendly. Dogs should not be left in the cabin alone. We have a mountain spring (when the spring is running) up the trail road (450 feet away). The ferns will normally be in full glory by the end of May to mid September and are amazing, covering the forest floor. Deer, bear, wild turkey, fox, chipmunks, squirrels and many woodland birds abound the property especially owls. A picnic table, fire ring and firewood is available on the property. Free WiFi on the property as long as the plant life is not too thick! There is a mile hiking loop right on the property and many challenging trails in the area, including the starting point for the Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail. No smoking is permitted in the cabin. Wild Yough is located in Southern Garrett County, Maryland very close to Herrington Manor State Park, Swallows Falls State Park, and the quaint mountain village of Oakland. The property adjoins thousands of acres of Garrett State Forest and hundreds of acres of state land along the Youghiogheny River. The world class Wisp resort and Deep Creek Lake are only minutes away. “Yough” is short for Youghiogheny River a state designated wild and scenic river which runs through the heart of the property. Wild Yough Glamping huts are part of more than 350 acres of private land, most of which is crisscrossed with hiking and biking trails. Youghiogheny is an Algonquin word meaning “a stream flowing in a contrary direction”, or in the case of the Yough, North toward Ohio Pyle and Pittsburgh. This section of the river is designated as a protected scenic corridor and you will feel the quiet isolation when sitting on the Crooked Butt Bench overlooking the big horseshoe bend in the river at the far back corner of our property. And if the river is low during your visit, feel free to wade across to the other side – Wild Yough owns the entire peninsula of land on the other side of the river and this is also bordered by State land.The river banks are steep on the property, but the fishing for small mouth bass is exceptional. There is a small turn around on the path just beyond Crooked Butt Bench where you can take out your canoe, kayak, or inner tubes after floating the 2+ miles from the Oakland bridge. Just be prepared to walk your water craft back up to the house or Glamping site as there is no motorized access to the river.If you like to lay on the rocks in the sun or take the kids for some wading in the river, the best place is the farthest to walk to. Take the trail to “High Bluff”, then cross the Snyder property line (Permission for trail access only – do not leave trail!), then descend down and cross the bridge across Herrington Manor Creek (a stocked trout stream!). The rich history of Burnhead Grazings is enveloped in a love for God's creation. Dr. Gib and Emmy Lou McLaughlin purchased Burnhead, which is Gaelic for the head of the stream, from William H. Stevens. The once pasture for Hilltop Dairy's cows became a pasture for sheep. Gib and Emmy had been in search of land for years after getting their first border collie and falling in love with the Shepherd lifestyle. Gib trained dozens of border collies to work the sheep and did hundreds of demonstrations highlighting the herding abilities of the collie across the country. Their love for Scotland and the border collie took them Scotland on many occasions.
Burnhead Grazings is a snapshot of Scotland, "in bye" or close to, the beautiful college town of Indiana, PA. Less than two miles from two hotels, three miles from downtown, and within minutes from Amish country, it is amazing that this respite still exists so close to civilization.
Gib and Emmy's daughter, Moire McLaughlin Bridges and her husband Randy have endeavored to bring the sheep back to Burnhead Grazings and to continue the family tradition as well as to share in the experience. You can listen to an interview on The Christian Witness Program on this page for some history about Moire and Randy in Tennessee where they were residing before coming to Indiana.
They are producing lamb, wool for spinning and felting, and hay and are opening up the farm for small events such as weddings or family reunions. Moire is also the author and illustrator of a children's book available for sale on iBooks called Sissy & The King. In November of 2014, with the help of Hilltop Baptist Church and many others, they began hosting an event, LIFE Nativity, the weekend before Thanksgiving, which benefits Life-Way Pregnancy Center.
Moire is also a fine artist and gives classes on wool felting. Ask about signing up for a class or book a private felting party.

The home can be rented entirely (4 bed, 3 baths) or by room. The master suite includes its own bathroom with shower and closet. One first floor bedroom has an accessible bathroom and two second floor bedrooms share a bathroom, also on the second floor.
There is 10 wooded acres behind the home with ample space to hike and explore. The property is located across the road from the beautiful and scenic Juniata River if you love to spend time kayaking or fishing.

It is a lovely location and the couple who runs it are lovely as well. I had a cabin and it was very clean. The microwave was a nice plus. The fridge is a good size and includes a freezer. I was in Cabin B.

Weekend Trip to Abrams Creek Campground/Retreat
Awesome location! Just me and my teenaged son and we absolutely loved it and will be back many times. The owners are very nice and accommodating. I'd be neglectful to not point out this one thing: although the cabin is spacious and the camping area is beautiful, the inside of the cabin is rather unkempt. If you're bringing a wife and/or young kids I'd advise you choose another cabin. It is the furthest cabin, so maybe it's not used much?
I feel a little bad about that last part because the entire holiday weekend was fantastic.

absolutely a weekend I will return to in my dreams!! Donald was a wonderful host, going above and beyond to provide everything we could have needed. The site was beautiful, well kept, and stocked with everything from coffee and washcloths to kindling. The land itself was stunning and peaceful. Cannot wait to return in the fall to see the leaves change!

1 night at WonderWoods at Rocky Gap
This was our second visit - the first time we camped in tents. This time we stayed in the Acorn Palace, and it was everything I dreamed it would be. Such a perfect spot to camp in luxury! Kristen provides so many little touches to make the Palace the perfect cabin. She was welcoming and accommodating, and super easy to communicate with. We will definitely visit again!

Relaxing retreat. A lot of worthwhile outdoor activities 1 to 1.5 hrs away. Had everything we needed and it was very cozy and comfortable. Having 2 bathrooms is also a great perk especially since there were 4 of us. Host was helpful and informative. Teens enjoyed it as well. Would definitely recommend.

It was nice to have the cabin and running water / toilets near by… we enjoyed hiking all the trails, met a nice couple … when we comeback we won’t stay in the Stanley cabin because cars drove right by our window a few times each night and people were partying at the main building at 2am one night so our sleep was not good

A beautiful and serene landscape, Donnie's small but ample farm backdrop was inviting and welcoming. The off-grid cabin set back in the woods was very private and nestled, with a cool evening temperature because of the wooded canopy. I recommend keeping the "screen" door open to fall asleep to the sounds of crickets.

3 nights at Lily Pad Cabin & Mojo's Loft
The wife and I stayed at the Lily pad cabin for 4 nights. It was very relaxing sitting on the porch overlooking the woods and the neighboring farm land. We watched many deer and a few turkey’s. The cabin has a full kitchen, living area with nice furniture and comfortable bedding. We enjoyed the fire pit and the Lily pond with a fountain. The owners were great, we spoke with them numerous times and they really enjoy what they are doing, thank you.

1 night at Lily Pad Cabin & Mojo's Loft
I don't have words big enough to describe how wonderful Mojo's Loft is. I felt the peace I was seeking as I pulled up. The area directly around the loft is beautiful and serene. Across the driveway, there's a pond with a water feature. To the one side is a man made waterfall. They are both so pretty.
I walked up the few steps to the tiny fenced in yard and was again greeted with a tranquil setting. There is a concrete patio with some seating and tables, a gas grill, and a fire pit. The yard is tiny, but enough to let your fur baby get some fresh air or enjoy the sunshine.
Upon entering the loft, all I felt was a warm welcome. It felt very happy and comfortable. The tiny kitchen area has everything you need for a quick meal. The dining table has enough room for a couple of guests. The queen size bed is comfortable and inviting. The living room area is perfectly furnished with a recliner and reclining couch. There's even a little desk to read through the pamphlets, menus, maps, and guest book Tamara so thoughtfully provided. The bathroom is very nice, complete with a bathtub/shower.
There is internet available if you need it. There's a window air conditioner that cools the loft completely and am electric fireplace that in sure is marvelous in the cooler months.
Please be sure to read the binder! Find out about their charitable donations to animal rescues and K9s! That just makes this little place so much better in my book.
