Whether it is sweaty-hot summertime or deep-freeze, snow-covered wintertime I treasure the moments sipping a cup of tea on the riverbank listening to the birds competing over food and mates...or to the ice breaking up with the morning heat. Learn more about this land: We have five campsites in 135 acres of acres of forest and ranch land in our working cattle and sheep ranch.  Located in a serene valley in the Ozark Highlands, the Ranch has Sheep, Scottish Highland Cattle, Chickens, Ducks and Great Pyrenees livestock guard dogs (only in the sheep pastures - and they are friendly).  If you want to meet our animals and see the farm we are happy to show you around! This is a unique site located in the Ozark Highlands. Only 45 minutes from Cape Girardeau (a small river town on the Mississippi), and 45 minutes from the Arcadia Valley including Taum Sauk mountain (the highest point in Missouri), Elephant Rocks, the Johnston Shutins, and other beautiful areas in the highlands.  The farm is five minutes from Marble Hill, which is home to the Bollinger County Natural History museum which highlights the only dinosaur bones found in Missouri. The bones were found at a farm in Glennallen (a few minutes from our farm) as well as a great barbeque (Jay’s Restaurant) and a good catfish restaurant (Jers Restaurant). On the way to our farm, feel free to stop at the 1,700 foot deep artesian well to get a cool, refreshing jug of natural artesian well water – the water is free, but you have to bring your own containers!  We are two and a half hours southwest of St. Louis, and two and half hours northwest of Memphis.

Located at the confluence of the Meramec River and Labarque Creek, my place (Matt's Place) is a ridge above a bottomland bowl of sorts. The old iron truss bridge here is likely built in 1910 and it has a survey marker from 1932. The creek has a nice little swimming hole, and a beach that is sometimes sand, sometimes, gravel, and sometimes a mix of both with some silt or even mud after a storm. It's peaceful down there to explore in the creek, wade while looking outward to an opening into the Meramec River. It's also fun to stand just at the mouth of the creek in the Meramec River. It's an awesome view upstream or downstream of tree lined banks, rock bluffs, and every now and then, passing boats, canoes, paddle boards, or kayaks. The old iron truss bridge hovers above the meeting of two waters. The water is cool and clean. Some fifty species of fish have been recorded in this creek, the most in all of Jefferson County and St Louis County. The bottomland has two levels, the lower bottoms down by the creek and the upper bottoms about a hundred feet from the creek. The upper bottoms has a clearing like a meadow with mowed grass. My favorite things to do here include gazing up at a cottonwood tree that must be sixty feet tall. It's leaves in a breeze are like a thousand hands waving hello. The bottomland meadow offers just enough sky to see bats dance in the dusk air between the trees, then fireflies as it gets darker yet. Up top is where I live. Just five miles off HWY 44 and HWY 109, at Eureka, MO, (30 minutes west of downtown St Louis, 18 minutes from Six Flags) this place sits on a ridge with great views above the Meramec River.

Lake Perry Campground was established in July, 2024. We are located just outside the main gates of Lake Perry. Lake Perry is a private, gated, lake community that is only accessible by lot owners and their guests. Lake Perry Campground offers 17 full hookup sites consisting of public water, 70 amp electric, and public sewer. 9 sites are pull through lots that are 25' wide x 35' long, and 8 back-in lots ranging from 25-60' wide and 30-100' long. Two buddy lots (camper & tent) are available as well. We also have 1 tent lot with 20 amp electric and water. Completed in August 2025, is a 30' x 50' pavilion with restrooms (2 toilets) and (1) floor to ceiling tile shower in each restroom. A tankless hot water heater was installed for endless hot water. A seasonal bar & grill operates on the weekends and sometimes more serving canned beer, mixed drinks, premium wines, and adult slushy drinks such as the nearly famous Perrywacker. There is Starlink wifi and an ice vending machine on-site 24/7. Also available late winter/early spring 2026 is a 400 square foot studio cabin featuring a 12x16 deck, bedroom, full kitchen, full bath, and a kitchenette/bar. (Sleeps 4) We are 5 miles from Mark Twain national Forest, as well as multiple conservation areas with creek access. Several wineries are nearby through scenic backroads. (Charleville, Twin Oaks, Sand Creek). Bring your SXS's for days of backroad riding that spans 4 counties (Perry, Ste Genevieve, Madison, and Bollinger). Everything went well!! It was our second visit and our first time of the season this year. We had problems getting our electric working right and they helped us figure that out. Then, they noticed our water was leaking a lot where we had it hooked up so they helped us fix that which made our water inside the camper flow better than it ever has. We also went horseback riding. It was a super fun time. Our horses were great and our guide, Jonathan, the owner, was awesome! Had a great time talking with him. Everyone tha we talked to was super nice! We will definitely be back!

1 night at Wine Trail Wilderness

The hiking club I'm a member of stayed at the Grainzebo site and we couldn't be more happy!!! Jon and Carla are simply the best. They accommodated a large group, basically catered to our needs and offered tips and suggestions on what to do and see in the area. The vibe at Wine Trail Wilderness is indescribable, great falls short of of our experience. Highly recommend and can't wait to get back. Keep up the great work!!!!

I went camping on spring break with 6 of my friends, it was some of our first times camping and we loved it! The owner was very nice and communicative, the showers weren’t working while we stayed but that wasn’t a huge deal to us and he notified us in advance. Very secluded and peaceful! We absolutely loved it and will definitely be back.

Absolutely wonderful secluded camping, this place offers showers and all sorts of activities if you’re interested in that. While we didn’t do any extra activities the campsite alone had a wonderful view over the lake. We brought our own kayaks, but if need you can rent those at the office too! The fishing was absolutely fantastic. I caught more fish than I did all last summer in one trip. They’ll bite anything but I had the most luck on a swirl tail. We will definitely be back!

Weekend Trip to Curt’s Cabin

We really enjoyed camping on the sandbar near the creek at Curt’s Cabin! My son and I went for an overnight getaway. The cabin was already being rented so we were offered that as an alternative. We visited Ste Genevieve on the way there from St Louis. The spot was quiet and really pretty and not too far off the highway. It was a bit sunny, but since we got there later in the afternoon it wasn’t too bad. There were tables and chairs and a little fire pit already there for us to use which was nice.

From the first communications, throughout the nearly week long stay, to the departure, Jon was extremely pleasant, helpful and professional. He set up our own compost ports-toilet, refilled water, and made sure us ladies were comfortable. The dogs appreciated the field area for play. The location was quiet and peaceful.

Hawn Campground

This campground was breathtaking. It is in the Hawn State Park, so the scenery had me all heart eye emoji the entire time. There are a few great hikes around the campground. I hiked the one at the entrance which was 4.4 miles long. It was so gorgeous, just prepare for spider webs in your face the entire time (worth it though). The campground had showers and bathrooms and while I can't vouch for the showers (who showers while camping?!), the bathrooms were clean enough for me. Would definitely love to go visit this place again.
