Sycamore Springs Campground

We have found our new spot!!!! What a beautiful place to enjoy the outdoors. The site was very well maintained with flat ground for our tent and plenty of trees for shade, a fire pit and nearby grill, and a nice sturdy bench. You’re a hop, skip, and a jump away from a beautiful creek/river that has fresh springs supplying cool, clear water. The sites were easy to find and easily accessible. There were some cars that would come down the gravel road that the sites were located off of, but I only remember one or two at night while we were sleeping. That didn’t bother us any. What made our whole trip was getting to talk with the host, Harley. He’s full of stories that take you back in time to fill you in on some of the history of the area. He was EXTREMELY kind, respectful, and knowledgeable.. We wish we could’ve stayed longer to hear more, but there is no doubt that we will be back again and again!! Highly recommend this spot, which is a semi-sweet statement to make since I’d like to keep it a secret it’s that good, but Harley deserves the guests and good review. We can’t wait to get back out there! Thank you!!!

This place is a magical sanctuary that heals the heart and soul! This place became very special to my heart during our stay because of the scenery, the Host (Harless aka Harley) and how peaceful it is there! Harley is so friendly, kind, and caring and we are so grateful that we made a new dear friend! He answered all of our questions, gave great area recommendations, and even made sure we had plenty of fire wood! He has great restaurant recommendations should you choose to make that short 15 minute drive into town! We only we in for one meal. Harley invited us to Northtown Tavern for a crawfish boil while we were there and the crawfish boil and the pizza did not disappoint! It was delicious! But what made it really special was the people and the atmosphere! This was an experience for the books and we will be back for years to come! My husband, daughter, myself, our 2 dogs and cat stayed at site 10 and we fit comfortably! The camp site and the location was perfect! There is constant running water sounds and you are right on the Castor River! The shut ins were breathtaking! We cant wait to go back!

Easter camping

This place is Awesome! If you’re into camping 5 yards from the river then this is the place for you. We camped here on Easter weekend so we had the entire place to ourselves. Harless was a great host and went out of his way to make sure we were safe and comfortable. There was a 3.5” rain in the middle the night and he was right there the next morning to warn us about the river rising and made sure we were safe. We ended up hooking up and leaving for the day to have lunch and antiquing and returned after the river went down to finish out the weekend. He even offered to refund our $ for the inconvenience! That’s one thing we love about booking through Hipcamp; you meet some of the nicest people and the camps are usually superior than any State Park or Forestry campground. We will be returning to this one.

Down stream from Castor River Shut-Ins sits this secluded yet easily accessible campground. It is right on the water which is clean and has good fishing. It's very quiet at night with almost no light pollution for stargazers. The sunshine hits the camp area for essentially the entire day. It's a good place to catch some rays! 10/10 would recommend. The owner is friendly and accommodating as well!

The hose was great! There was not a toilet on the site like listed so they had a porta potty brought right to our site. They were very helpful and kind, also brought us firewood. The site was beautiful, right on the river. We had a great time!

A hidden Gem

Great location. Excellent Host. Great for camper’s that like peace and nature. Forget the state parks and overcrowded RV parks.. This is the place to be and it’s clean and on the water.

This was a great place to camp. Great scenery, saw bald eagles and lots of wildlife. Camp sites are right by a rolling creek. The campground host was a great guy and showed us around, super helpful. Will definitely return, highly recommended

it is probably a great site to camp on. i never got the chance, i called left message that i had broken down along the way and needed to cancel. i think i tried to email them as well, but my cell service was intermittent from where i was at. i requested a refund as i couldn’t make the stay. left my info, and number/site. never heard back from them. so i ended up wasting $175 (three nights-weekend). i still haven’t heard much from them.

Tent camping was very peaceful on a fall Sunday night. Right on Castor River with beautiful surroundings. Very convenient spot close to the shut-ins @ Amidon Conservation Area. Although there were no other campers the night I stayed, the other available sites are pretty close together. Could feel a little cramped if they were full, but I had the place to myself so it was great!

Host is so helpful. He provides wood at a reasonable rate. Access to the creek is more than perfect and the water level there never seems to change, you can sit in a raft in the shallow area or visit the swimming hole (there are two, one closet to the primitive camp sites is the right, additionally if you walk down the creek to the left past the first bend you will find an even bigger swimming hole with a sandy beach, but shh! don't tell anyone I said that). This place is so close the shut ins, and for me that is a plus. This place is just so peaceful and full of people who share similar views about nature and our place within it. It has become one of my favorite spots. I’m so thankful that Harley is the kind of person who is willing to share his little piece of heaven with others, which is just another piece of collective experience of this place. I would love to leave a bad review to keep people from coming here and booking my favorite spot, but if Harley can open his place for me to further strengthen my connection with nature, it just doesn't feel right that I not let my kind of people know. Birds of a feather flock together.

Wonderful spot to camp! Had a grill and a place for a campfire plus a picnic table! The owner was so kind and stopped by when I got there and one more time a few hours later for a couple minutes just to check if I had everything I needed. He made me feel comfortable and he keeps wonderful care of his property. Could not recommend this campsite more!

Super nice and clean spot, we set up our tent about 20 yards from the river. Great for spending a day or 2 so you can go explore the River and cave not far from the campsite. Harless is super friendly and a great host, hooked me up with some fire wood upon arrival.

The place was super pretty and peaceful. has portable potty and I 100 percent recommend tent camping there! Owner was very accommodating with giving us options to camp at his personal spot when we arrived earlier than the previous rentor had packed up (two hours before noon, which was their disignated time of leaving) He could have easily just told us to wait until our agreed time of set up. Will definitely camp here again!

Will be back!

We recently tent camped here with two dogs and our baby and it was the perfect getaway for our family. The land was so well taken care of, the fire pit was great, and camping next to the water was truly incredible. The host helped us with some firewood and talked with us a bit about the history of the land and we really hope to be back soon! The sites are fairly close to the road but the only thing was that cars would blow dust towards our site (we were at #6 and it’s the first site). It didn’t really bother us, especially after the rain. The outhouse bathroom was kept really clean and you can tell the host really takes good care of all the spaces! We were especially impressed with how clean everything was after a busy Labor Day weekend.
