Less than a year later, in 2015, we added the neighboring 40 acres — together, the 80 acres of thriving longleaf pine, orchard, and untouched wetlands you get to camp inside of today. With guidance from the Florida Forest Service, FWC, IFAS, NRCS, and a sharp-eyed private forester, we built a management plan to bring this land back to its native state. Twenty-five thousand pines and more sweat equity than we can count later, it's finally ready to share. Wander walking trails through planted fields alive with deer, turkey, and songbirds. Watch the light shift over quiet wetlands. Fall asleep to real silence — broken only by whip-poor-wills and, occasionally, a tractor. We're tucked into a quiet corner of the Florida Panhandle, close to Torreya, Three Rivers, Seminole, and Florida Caverns State Parks, plus the Lake Talquin State Forest — a perfect basecamp for paddling, caving, and hiking. Camping options: two full-hookup sites for RVs or campers, three RV sites with power and water, and one true boondock site — no hookups, but plenty of room for an off-grid, self-sufficient rig. A few honest notes: this is a working farm, not a manicured resort. During the rainy season, the grass can get a bit long between mowings, and you'll likely see (and hear) tractors and other agricultural activity — always outside quiet hours. Speaking of swimming Ponce De Leon spring is big and beautiful clear blue hole spring to the west. Or go east to Mariana, about the same distance and you can visit Florida Caverns (Florida's only touring cave) with a beautiful spring with swimming, and hiking there too. We have guest also go to the Econina Springs and canoe rental and spend a day floating the beautiful Ecofina River with 8 springs to visit on a days float. There are many State parks so close. If you want to go out to eat or socialize a local brewery and restaurants are very close and beautiful Alabama too! We are super easy to visit if you are coming from the north out of Dothan are on Interstate 10 we are just Located 1.4 miles North of Interstate right on Hwy 231. Easy access to the interstate, fuel and shopping. Private campsite in the middle of the city! My family and I were lucky enough to find a four acre urban forest less than two miles from FSU, the Florida Capitol and downtown Tallahassee. And just a mile from midtown! We are welcoming tent campers to come experience camping in an urban forest. The camping area has a hot water shower and sink, and the main site (#76), is fully outfitted with fire ring, tent pad, fresh water, a picnic table and plenty of hammock trees! The camp area has space for up to 6 tent campers and 2 cars. All sites share the shower and sink areas and a port-o-potty that is professionally cleaned weekly. Sprinter style vans (UPDATE) - We successfully had a Sprinter Van on the site and have now started accepting booking for that style van. Due to limitations on space and clearance, we can only allow vans with a max of around 10 1/2' tall and 23' long. This is equivalent to a Sprinter 170. This is a wonderful "Forgotten Coast" region of the Florida panhandle with so much to see and do within minutes. This area took a direct hit from Hurricane Michael in 2018 and has worked hard at recovery, with so much rebuilding and growth over the last few years. Howard Creek is an eclectic little fishing community made up of a variety of residents from weekend fishers, summer or winter visitors and full time residents. This little golf cart community offers a small general store, a small community church, a volunteer fire department and two landings to put your boat in. Just 20 minutes from the quaint little beach town of Port Saint Joe, Florida. PSJ is known for its warm, welcoming people, old world Florida feel, dog-friendly beaches, Cape San Blas and Indian Pass. Many locally owned wonderful restaurants, bakeries and shops. It's easy to find a charter out of PSJ if you're interested in fishing! We love to host parents and students! Great weekend getaway! ***We also offer primitive camping sites as well in The Orchard area. No electric at campsites. WATER is available. *Need room for more occupants?? See optional add-ons for rental tent/screen rooms we will set up to allow for additional occupants at our units. Or pay small tent fee to bring your own and place near your site. KITCHEN- *We have a small outdoor kitchen area with grill, griddle, stove, utensils, and picnic table. Basic cooking supplies are provided in your unit (oil, salt, pepper, etc) basic cookware, utensils, disposable and washable cups and plates. You are welcome to pick from the garden when its complete. There is also a common area, to eat and hang out. We will soon have a community fire pit for all to enjoy. BATHHOUSE- In the Homestead area we have a small rustic community bath house with a hot shower and a running toilet. Soap, shampoo, conditioner, and fresh towels provided. The Primitive Orchard area has cold water faucets and compost toilet. Both bath houses are close to all overnight areas. CHECK IN/Check-out time may be flexible depending upon concurrent bookings! We ask that you clear your campsite by 11am, but you are welcome to spend the remainder of the day hanging out with the goats, riding or just relaxing. Check in time is 2pm or later. Unless you are a returning guest please arrive before 7pm. (ALL late arrivals must be approved ahead of time, unless emergency.) Late arrivals interfere with our chore routine and it’s hard to stop and show you around. Thank you. Feel free to message if you have questions! The herd looks forward to meeting you!! PARKING- Temporary UNLOADING/LOADING- Parking for one vehicle near site. Must park in nearby guest parking afterwards. It is for the safety of our animals. We have too many free roaming animals. Thank you for understanding. BUGS- Please be aware that beginning in mid-May for about six weeks is yellow fly season in north Florida! Mosquitos are around all the time but heavier near wet areas. Note: This is Florida and a rustic farmstay. There are bugs and spiders on the property. One may even end up in the domes or tents. Please understand this before complaining about bugs. I want to make sure everyone knows it happens! We love our domes and tents, but you should know this isn't an apartment in the city :)

I had a wonderful camping experience this weekend. The property was absolutely majestic, peaceful, beautiful, and close enough to home to make it feel like a true hidden gem. It offered the perfect balance of being immersed in nature while still having convenient amenities that made the stay comfortable and easy. Danny was an excellent host. He was very communicative, accessible, and responsive throughout the experience, which made everything from arrival to settling in seamless. It was clear that thought and care have gone into creating a space where guests can genuinely relax and enjoy the outdoors. I left feeling refreshed and already thinking about returning. I would absolutely recommend Danny’s property to anyone looking for a peaceful, well-maintained, and convenient camping getaway.

From the moment I arrived both Maggie and Mike went out of their way to make me feel at home. Their place is much more than I expected, showers, a kitchen, comfortable lounge area with fans to keep you cool. I planned to only stay 2 days but ended up extending my trip. Beautiful crystal clear spring just a mile down road. Starry nights away from the city but shall just a short drive to all they have to offer.

We camped 2 nights with our 35' 5th wheel toy hauler. No problems getting to the property. The site is huge, beautiful, and well-maintained. We enjoyed the peaceful setting, proximity to town and the caverns, and definitely coffee on the covered patio watching the river roll by. Highly recommended!!

We had a wonderful stay at this Hipcamp! The setting is absolutely beautiful—peaceful, relaxing, and right on the river. It was the perfect place to unwind and enjoy nature. You can tell the host really cares about the property, and is making improvements even though it's already a fantastic spot. We loved the quiet atmosphere, the scenic views, and the overall experience. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful riverside getaway.

3 nights at Waterfront Full Hookup Campsite

This campsite is a dream come true. Will definitely be back. First night I was a solo camper with my dog, using the tent and SUV. I set up overnight using the 110 power access at camp 4. Three nights stay , everything worked as promised. Always felt safe. John was responsive and helpful when asked any thing during the entire stay. By the end of July 4th the camp was full of at least 6 other groups camping and we never felt crowded or lost access to amenities. The site remained beautiful and incredibly quiet throughout the busy weekend. Was only about a 30 to 40 minute drive to visit the more popular places to eat and play on the panhandle of Florida. Will definitely be returning.

Quiet, secluded, and very peaceful! Beautiful piece of property with nice trails to walk on. We had no issues gaining access with a 40' motorhome and a tow behind vehicle. Site had full hookups that were easily accessible. Would definitely recommend and would definitely stay here again!

We had a wonderful stay at Jay's property. The campsite is right on the river, providing beautiful views and a very peaceful, quiet atmosphere. It was easy to get in and out with our RV, and the full hookups (FHU) worked perfectly. Jay was an excellent host—very responsive and quick to answer any questions we had. The polebarn was in the right place to get out of the rain! We would definitely stay here again and recommend it to future Hipcampers looking for a relaxing riverside getaway.

Our stay at the Outside Inn was quiet and peaceful. It was really nice to be surrounded by pine trees and the bathhouse under the pole barn was a welcome amenity to have for tent camping! We didn’t get a chance to explore much of the grounds but got to say hi to the chickens and our dog loved rolling around in the grass :)

Overview

About

This park is named after an extremely rare species of Torreya tree. This type of nutmeg tree only grows on the bluffs overlooking the Apalachicola River.
Around 16 miles of trails offer biking and hiking opportunities. The river gives way to a hardwood forest mixed with evergreens. In the fall, the hills sing with color.

The Torreya forest harbors all kinds of wildlife. Keep your eyes out for deer, foxes, bobcats, raccoons, black bears, and gopher tortoises. More than 100 species of birds live here at any given time.

Don't miss for the spindly evergreen leaves of the Torreya. They give off a pungent odor when the leaves or pine cones are crushed. It's an awesome defense mechanism against herbivores!

Scientists estimate there are around 600 trees left. Only 10 are capable of reproducing. Unfortunately, these trees have a high probability of going extinct sometime in the near future.

Choose from 29 campsites for your stay. There's also a cabin and a yurt.

When to go

The ideal time to visit Torreya State Park is during the cooler months from October to April, when the weather is mild and perfect for hiking and camping. Summer months can be hot and humid, with increased mosquito activity, making outdoor activities less comfortable.

Know before you go

Check the weather forecast before your visit, as the park's conditions can change rapidly.
Wear appropriate footwear for rugged terrain, especially if you plan to hike.
Bring plenty of water and snacks, as there are limited concessions within the park.
Respect wildlife and maintain a safe distance at all times.

Remote little spot with some good hiking and friendly campground hosts. The yurt is comfy, with a nice little deck and climate control.

Great spot just a short drive from Tallahassee. FYI, most of the campsites are pretty open. Not a lot of coverage/privacy in between, but the campsites on the "20s" side of the loop seem to be better. But the volunteer staff were super nice. Firewood available for 5 bucks a bundle. The 6.8 mile Torreya Trail is pretty cool, offering several different types of terrain. You forget you are in northern Florida!
