The Lost Dutchman Italian Bar Camp is a 160 acres of Priviately Owned Patented Mining land and our priviate campground located in the Stanislaus National Forest and on the South Fork of the Stanislaus River, which runs through the camp. Camping is available on both side of the river making the Italian Bar camp a destination for campers since we rebuilt the camp from the ground up in the late 1970’s. Little History: The property was discovered and first settled around 1849 as a gold rush mining camp. At one time over 3,000 people lived here and mined for gold. When the gold rush came to an end so did Italian Bar. Until over a hundred years later, In 1976 when our founder fell in love with this remote property and purchased the land and we began rebuilding the I-Bar camp from the ground up and opened it to our members. It didn't hurt that somewhere close by Our founder found a 800oz pocket of gold. Even today, Prospecting for gold is encouraged! If you want to try your hand at “Gettin on some of the shiny” let the Caretakers know! We have a few gold pans we loan out that are just waiting for some color to make you smile. There is NOTHING like being in the wilderness of this area for a good re-centering of the soul! We have found it to be a true blessing for our family, and we hope you can experience this blessing as we share this space with you. We feel certain you will not be disappointed with our beautiful river canyon. Our property is situated right on the middle fork Cosumnes river. The swimming is awesome and the stars at night will put you into a state of awe! In the area there are many family owned wineries in the area, most of them offering free tasting! It’s a short drive to Tahoe and the Marshall gold discovery site as well as the historic hangtown Placerville. We are happy to make suggestions for local hiking areas, like the Devil's Slide "Gorge" only a 15 minute drive but like a trip to mini Yosemite. The Caldor Fire was VERY close to our property and a back burn was initiated nearby the our house (literally 200' away!). Our property became a pivotal point of fighting the fire in our community known as the “Ant Hill Army”. Ask us about the story!

The “Main” Driveway: -Soup Kitchen -The Magic Bus Second Driveway: -1 Pine Car Camping -2 Pine Walk-in Camping The Soup is down the driveway a couple hundred yards from where we usually are so you’ll more or less be on your own, depending on if we have work to do down there or if there are other campers. We are happy to chat or leave you be, just let us know what your needs are. If you’re looking for a more isolated spot, see the listings for 1 Pine or 2 Pine. The 2nd area is “1 Pine” accessed by our second driveway that is 100 yards down the road from the farm. The driveway is kind of rough but definitely manageable with a truck, SUV or sedan if you’re willing to go for it. The drive goes up a couple hundred yards to the hilltop where there is a clearing and, you guessed it, 1 pine tree. From the back of the clearing there is a trail that leads you to 2 Pine, which is a walk that takes just a few minutes. 2 Pine is walk-in only but has great views of the sunset and is totally secluded and private and would be a good spot to either bring some friends for a little sunset party or for someone who wants to seriously unplug. There are plenty of flat spots to pitch a tent. **if you are a teacher or Pacific Crest Trail hiker let us know! We are happy to offer a discount :)

We are a small privately owned campground ( on the outskirts of Placerville. The property features 86.5 secluded Tahoe like acres with beautiful year-round Weber Creek. The camp sites are placed along the creek or the bluff overlooking the creek. We have traditional dirt camping, canvas tents on platforms, teepees and glamping tents for those that want the comforts of home. We are tent camping only with only one site that allows a small travel trailer or van. (#14) . We are dog friendly and allow dogs in all but 5 glamping sites. We do enforce camp rules especially our quiet time between 10 PM and 7 AM We’ve been told that we have a “family camp” vibe. We are a great place for families wanting a safe environment for their kids but also several group sites for those that want to hang out together with multiple families. We are also a great base site for those wilderness enthusiasts with access to all the El Dorado National Forest including Desolation but want a hot shower at the end of the day. We have a lodge that is stocked with games and a ping pong table. The lodge has a microwave, Keurig machine and a hot water kettle for those hot drinks (BYO Cups).We have several tables set up for those that want to eat inside as well as multiple picnic tables along the side of the lodge with overhead protection. We have electricity at the at the lodge for small appliances and charging phones. We have a compressor on site to blow up your air mattresses or float toys. We’ve been told that our bathrooms are the “cleanest” ever and have changing tables and diaper pails. We offer nice flushing toilets and hot showers! We have many extra amenities including a compressor to use for your air mattresses, For outdoor activities we have basketball, volleyball, pickleball and cornhole not to mention the playground with swing set . We have hiking trails throughout the property. Our highlight is a camp fire bowl with bench seating with a stage to display camper talent which is perfect for the evening fire and roasting s’mores (bring the fixings). The creek starts out in spring looking like a rushing river featuring many fishing and swimming holes. As the summer progresses the water level falls but is still great for water play and fishing. We have propane BBQs (we provide the propane for BBQs) located throughout the property. We also have a propane grill and charcoal BBQ located in the common area for all to use. There is a dutch oven pit also in the fire bowl area. We do not allow wood fires at the individual sites but each site has a propane firepit for ambiance (not cooking) that requires you to purchase a 20 lb. propane cannister on site (add in extras) or pay cash on site. No internet service. There is limited internet only available for purchases at the setore. We require a 3 night minimum for the major holidays - Memorial Day, 4th of July and Labor Day. We do exclusive events so you may need to explore multiple weekends to find the right reservation. We are located in the foothills so we are a short hop to many local attractions that include river rafting, gold mines, wineries and historical towns with great eating establishments. Tahoe is less than an hour away and there a many hiking trails within 20-30 minutes. We have a limited number of items to rent i.e, tents, cots, camp stoves, etc. We rent a battery pack for those that use a cpap. We also have a small store on site for those items you forgot and a good selection of ice cream and ice. We take venmo or cash.

Weekend Trip to Cook's Station Campground

Cook’s Station Campground was so peaceful. Chris was great with communication. He answered questions quickly. This was a great price to have shade, a nice view, electric hook ups, a dump station at the site, and water. The campground is small but a peaceful home for a couple nights. The surrounding forest area is beautiful and just what we needed before we get back to our school and work routines. We drove about 30 minutes and checked out some local lakes-Silver Lake and Bear Lake. We also had breakfast at the restaurant on site. The ladies working were very friendly. Thank you!

Aaron was a great host! He made our wine tasting experience very enjoyable. He was extremely knowledgeable, and we really enjoyed the excellent selection of wines and ciders. We ended up buying quite a few bottles and cans to take home. The arcade was a fun bonus and kept our son entertained while we enjoyed the tasting. We stayed for four nights in our teardrop camper, and even though it was very hot during our visit, there was plenty of shade and the campsite was comfortable. Aaron was always available to answer our questions and gave us recommendations for a local river swimming spot that turned out to be amazing. The sunsets over the vineyard were beautiful and made for a perfect end to each day. We would definitely stay here again!

Weekend Trip to Squirrel Rock RV Campground

Squirrel Rock Campground is one of the best, most unique campsites you will ever come across. Excellent quality, commercial grade electric pedestals, and dual water hookups in an immaculately maintained site. Covered table with a tub full of great games. Amazing details and touches throughout the camp area and beyond. Beautiful boulders and Rock outcroppings. You'll be tickled by all the amusing details. A marked trail where you will find deer, quail, and of course Squirrels! There are many attractions nearby. We even caught an amazing show (Don't Touch That Dial), at the Fallon Theater, which is located at the Columbia State Historic Park. The cast was so good, and it was the most fun we've ever er had at a theater show. Catch it if you can! We love SRC, and will be returning for more fun and relaxing privacy. Weekend Trip to Camp 🏕 Gold Dust Vineyard

We had an amazing time staying on Aaron’s property! We staying in one of the RV/tent spots for two nights and did a wine tasting and tour with Aaron of his vineyard. His property is absolutely stunning and the camping and wine and services are very reasonably priced! Would definitely stay again! Keep in mind that the campsites are located right next to each other so it is very easy to hear everyone around you. Would recommend wearing clothes toed shoes and long pants for a tour for the long grass and thistle.

5 nights at Camp 🏕 Gold Dust Vineyard

We came to the area for a wedding, visit Lake Tahoe, and just rest from our busy lives. Aaron’s winery was the perfect place for us: rustic and relaxed, with gorgeous sunsets, woodpeckers, and a refreshing breeze under the holm oaks. Instructions to get here were good, and Aaron met us upon arrival. We set up our trailer, had dinner, and we had some of his wine while watching the sunset. The wine was crisp and very refreshing, and Aaron’s stories great entertainment. I also love the bottle art labels with their stories. We had a tasting the next day, and this too was delicious and entertaining, with a surprising Zinfandel! My favorite though were the Viognier and the Rosé du Cidre! People came and went over the weekend, but we had the place to ourselves on Tuesday. It was a perfect relaxing end to our CA trip after hiking at Lake Tahoe on Monday. We really should have tried the coffee but forgot about this option! Aaron was a great host, around and responsive, with recommendations for the area as well. The porta potties were clean. Oh, and if you see a huge German shepherd, it appears to be the neighbors’ dog and he is completely harmless.

Hands down our best Hipcamp experience yet! Chris was an incredible host — helpful in every way and made us feel completely taken care of. The site itself was private and beautiful, breakfast at the on-site restaurant was terrific, and there’s such rich history to the property. Hiking was fantastic both on-site and nearby. Can’t recommend this place enough — 5 stars all the way!

Weekend Trip to Bella Branch at SE Ranch

Cannot recommend this experience enough. What kind and gracious hosts we had! The ranch is located up on a hill - great breeze in the afternoon. In the morning, Kevin invited us to feed and pet the animals - emu, llama, alpaca, several kinds of goats. Chickens! We learned about the animals and their care. Kevin took the time to answer any questions we had and it was clear that he really loves and respects each of them. Also baby goats! So adorable, they jump wherever they go! Down the hill a bit is an immense garden. We walked down there and met his wife, Debra. She’s so passionate about her gardens and full of knowledge to pass on to novice gardeners like myself. Absolutely stunning and productive. She grows all kinds of fruits, vegetables, flowers, succulents, and cacti. Don’t get me started on the unique and beautiful & whimsical greenhouse. She even cut some flowers for me to take home. Our campsite was large and welcoming. There were long water and electrical lines which gave us flexibility as to how and where we wanted to set up our travel trailer. They have a relax area with horseshoes, games, and rocking chairs for relaxing. All in all we had a fantastic trip, and we will definitely return. Thank you, Kevin and Debra!

It felt like you were in your own little oasis. Very private and quiet, especially during the Memorial Holiday! Saw a few deer and one decided to hang out in our campsite for a few hours. I highly recommend Squirrel Rock Campground and Julie was an awesome host!
