This is great option for those who like to bring all their own gear to camp, and don’t need or want all the extras. Our new Primitive Adventures campsites are located on an established 5-star property. It’s a peaceful, secluded and private country estate. The 20 acre property starts out flat and then gentle to moderate sloped hillside with coastal live oak trees, eucalyptus trees, pine trees, meadows and many interesting landscape features nestled between the vast farmlands of North Monterey and Santa Cruz Counties.
We are 15 miles from the Pacific Ocean. The weather is usually mild here and we have cool evenings. We do get days that are in the 90s sometimes in the summer and early fall, but we also have lots of shade with all the trees. There is wildlife like deer, turkeys and owls and so much more. We have horses and a donkey, separate from the campsites, so no flies or smell from them. We provide one hot water shower and there are 3 outhouse style toilets on the grounds.
There is NO running water at the sites so we suggest you bring your own drinking water. There will be limited water provided for hand/dish washing.
We are a pack it in/pack it out campground so please, be mindful of waste as we ask that you take it out with you. We do not have dumpsters/trash service on site so please be mindful of this when packing and booking.
You may forage for plentiful eucalyptus and oak firewood for free, or pre-cut pine is available for purchase. Most of our weekends are fully booked at our Rustic Campsites already, so here is another chance to have yourself a weekend camping trip at our new Primitive Adventures campsites. Your camping site is on a flat plateu and is an ideal spot to park your trailer, motorhome or tent camp. With Complete privacy with views of the pacific ocean and South county's Monterey bay with a 180 degree view as well as San jose and Morgan Hill.
For the wine inthusiast, Loma Prieta winery is 5.5 miles away along with Windy Oaks Winery that is 3.7 miles away that is located on the "Wine trail" that has alots of winerys to offer in a beautiful location.

The beach is 30-40 minutes away with great surfing and body boarding up and down the coastline.

Kim Son Meditation Center and Mount Madonna Center are approximately 15 minutes away. There are also wonderful wineries throughout the mountains here.
The trip to the site will begin with a three mile drive on a private dirt road. Being on the very top of a mountain brings more seasonality than the surrounding cities. Please be prepared for any kind of extreme weather. Summer: Shade is highly recommended it can get into triple digits. *Spring/fall: Temperatures are generally mild but high winds are possible. *Winter: Typically cold and windy. *During rainy/muddy conditions 4x4/AWD is highly recommended. It is possible for it to get windy, foggy, rainy, hot and sunny, and even sometimes snowy.
Please note: the nearest grocer is 30 minutes from this site. Emergency supplies are available for delivery to your campsite. Cell phone reception is good on most carriers. Pets are allowed. Enjoy your time howling at the moon, star gazing, bird watching/wildlife viewing, or relaxing with your favorite libation.

Since this is our first year renting our land we have found that August is a high wasp season time in the mountains. We are doing everything humanly possible to hunt down each and every Wasp for your enjoyment. Summer is here! Beautiful warm days cool under the canopies of the ancient blue oak forest. Bring warm clothes and throws to wrap in while sitting by a roaring fire under dark skies streaming planets and galaxies. For daytime, dress in layers. In the oak studded world of the Diablo Mountain Range, the ocean influence sends gentle breezes winding their way through the oaks, offering days of dappled sunshine and nights crisp and cool. Use this as a home base and spend days at Pinnacles, Monterey, Carmel, the Central Valley, and so on or...you can rest and relax the world away, this is a place to regain your balance. Come with your cares leave clear and regenerated. A place to sing and dance, to talk late into the night as the night sky brims over with stars, and the campfire slowly dies. Perfect for group gatherings, and can accommodate your large party as easily and comfortably as we accommodate families, singles, and couples.
What we provide is: outdoor hot shower, flush toilet, clean clear water from faucets, and at your campsite: A fire pit and grill to cook on, picnic table with benches, and the blue oak savanna. Firewood for $15/bundle, fire starters -first two free in the winter then $0.50/each. Our firewood is sustainably harvested from downed trees and branches. We sell it for a neighbor. No healthy live trees are harmed in order to produce firewood. No native trees are felled in order to plant fast growing hardwood for fire or anything else!

We were looking for a spot last minute and came across Robin’s land. He accepted our last minute request and we camped in his property overlooking a strawberry farm. Robin received us with firewood and fresh eggs in the morning. Very sweet and accommodating host.

We really enjoyed staying at this camp site. Staff was friendly and we liked that the shower and bathroom were open all day and kept very clean. We were already discussing the next time we would come before we even left. Also it’s only 20 minutes from the beach and city dining.

We stayed three nights, very clean, quiet. There is so many areas to hang out, lots of fire pits, (gas) the pool area is huge, several gazebos with comfy couches, chairs. We walked on the trail to the top, totally worth it, very nice views from the very top. WiFi is a little weak but wasn’t a big deal for us.
We didn’t interact with any staff personal besides at checking in.
It’s a little tight when it comes to parking the trailers, depending on how big and how many cars are parked on the lot by the time you get there.
In general, we had a great experience, also it’s close enough to the towns to go explore, about 20 minutes from the Monterey aquarium

This campground is uniquely nestled into the Carmel Valley above the river. We loved the location and being close to lots of things to do and see. The facilities and the site itself were both very nice. The pool is next level, better than any I've seen at another campground. We will definitely be back again!

Our stay at Robin and Ray’s was just perfect. The view out into the fields is beautiful and they were both so sweet and welcoming. Ray gave us some helpful tips on local spots and the best way to get to the beach. We even got some delicious fresh eggs from their chickens. Absolutely would recommend

This tiny 5-site camping area is unique in that it is surrounded by vineyards and reached through a gate (code provided to guests) then a very narrow private road. It is an adventure just getting there.
It was very hot when I stayed, 98° F (37° Celsius), which probably explains why I was the only camper. The host, Phil, came by to greet me and answer questions soon after I arrived. The temperature dropped as the sun neared the horizon and I enjoyed walking around a bit, wandering through the grounds of the adjacent inn.
The campsites are just level places to park, my van was perfect. It was very quiet and nobody came near me. The peacefulness and privacy was just what I wanted.
This campsite is located halfway up the Gabilan Range, between the Salinas Valley and Pinnacles National Park. Some of the Pinnacles are in view, but the real view is of the Chalone Peaks (within the park) in one direction and the Sierra de Salinas in the other. There was fog in the valley below and a clear sky at sunset. I plan to go back, to experience a different season, maybe harvest time.

Robyn and Ray were friendly and welcoming! They provided suggestions as to where to eat locally and along our route. Every suggestion was perfect! They really took care of us, and we loved relaxing by a bonfire (they provided wood!) in the evening, and their fresh eggs were delicious!

I’ve been to Fremont Peak campground several times asi live nearby. Be advised that it is usually very windy in the afternoons so tie everything down. The winds come in from the coast so it can be cold in the spring and fall. Nice views, but not much hiking or things to do.

This is for Valley View Campground. Stayed there Sept 2021. Nice small campground. I stayed in Site 7 with a 17ft trailer & it was perfect. Shade all day over the driveway spot & the tent area/table had shade all morning. The view from this site is spectacular, you can look down at the valley & city below. My only complaint is the the ridiculous amount of flies! They didn't bite, but they were very nosey. Had TMobile cell service throughout the campground.

We stayed in Valley View. Pleasantly small. Not much to do if you have small kids who can’t do steep trails yet. Site 7 is completely exposed, to the point of being uninhabitable during hot afternoons. Site 8 has the best view. Other nice options were 3, 4, 5, 9 & 10. All in all, a nice campground not too far from civilization. Just avoid site 7 if it’s warm.

Camped here for NYE this past year with friends. It was empty! Reached cool temperatures and we even witnessed some falling snow our last night. The right gear makes all of the difference! The views were beautiful. Sites were a tad small (there were three couples in our group). Vault toilets are never nice but weren't as bad because of the cold.

LOVED Fremont peak. Beautiful area, easy access from the bay. Had a site with an amazing view of the valley below, and the views from the peak are stunning.

If you stay at the weekend the public picnic/barbecue area can be a little noisy for those sites in Oak Point that are close by, so if you want quiet during the day, aim to get a site at the other end.
