(November Through March) Winter is a beautiful time to visit and is a different experience than Summer. We do our best to keep the campground open to RV guests all year, (Tent Sites Closed in Winter) but there are some challenges. We wanted to make sure you are aware that during the Winter months, when below freezing temperatures are likely, some of the amenities that we offer in the Summer season are not available in the winter. • In most of the sites, the WATER is OFF due to the potential for frozen pipes. Site 29, 30, 32 & 33 do have water and Site #31 is reserved for guests to fill their water tanks as needed. • The Camp Store has very limited hours. • Please visit the Gift Shop at our Caboose lodging area. • The Restrooms are closed as the water is shut off. • If we get heavy snow, the campground will have limited access until we can move snow. 4 Wheel drive and or chains are highly recommended during times of snowfall. • Electricity, Cable and Internet are still available. Please feel free to use the Hot Tub at the Caboose Lodging area but the pool is closed. LOCATION Located alongside quiet Little Castle Creek at the base of Castle Crags, our 45-unit RV park and campground offer creek side camping in the tall pines. Our location is easy to get to and from the I-5 and is two miles from the Castle Crags section of the Pacific Crest Trail. We’re just off Exit 728 at Railroad Park Road. Splash in the front pond, wade in Little Castle Creek, breathe in the fresh mountain air and relax in the natural beauty of this striking setting. The Sacramento River is nearby for fishing and you can bike through to the historic town of Dunsmuir. AMENITIES For the comfort of tent campers, we have hot showers, flush toilets and a laundry room. Everyone is welcome to enjoy the game room, group BBQ pit and recreation lawn. Ice and wood are available for purchase at the entrance station. SITE SPECS There are many RV hook-up sites with easy pull-throughs. We can accommodate your RVs up to 55 feet. Most sites have 30-amp electrical hook-ups and some designated sites accommodate up to 50 amps. Wi-Fi is available to most campsites on our new High-Speed WiFi system. We are constantly working to upgrade this system but there is no guarantee of its operating status or available bandwidth. It has been pretty reliable after our last upgrade. Each FHU RV Site has a TV connected to our new 48 Channel, Digital, DirecTV system. Some TV’s are not compatible with our MP4 Digital System and some guests have difficulty configuring their RV/TV system. We have some troubleshooting tips that give 95% of our RV guests access to our TV System but there are no guarantees. DINE IN A RAILROAD CAR The Dining Car Restaurant is one of the most interesting restaurants in Dunsmuir, CA. Built inside authentic, vintage railroad cars, the restaurant is a museum itself. Inside its antique cars is an atmosphere steeped in nostalgia. Antique hand tools, gauges, pictures, signals and other artifacts recall the glory days of railroading in the west and specifically the Dunsmuir and McCloud area. Above the bar is a hand built scale replica of the Southern Pacific Cascade, which once plied the rails between San Francisco and Portland. Enjoy your favorite cocktail or a specialty drink. In the warmer months, relax on our patio deck and gaze up at the view of Castle Crags. The Dining Car Restaurant offers an experience unlike other restaurants in Dunsmuir. Please be advised there are bears in the area. Mice and chipmunk will eat into tents for food not secured. This is a wild environment with a high chance for wildlife encounters. We are the place If you are looking for a spot to do quiet camping, no loud music being played. This is a retreat We’re trying to create with a very majestic tone. We have views of the mountain with lots of trails to explore. There is a Buddhist monastery adjacent to McGuinness Springs That is on national Forest land, this is a very precious area. Please be aware that we will have the boundaries of our 10 acres marked and that private property surrounds us on three sides with one side being national forest. we do ask that you stay well on our property or in the national forest to respect and preserve our neighbors land, as our neighbors have no houses or buildings are rarely present if ever. Once you get off on exit number 698 heading north from Redding CA you travel 7.1 miles on Gilman rd toward Hirz bay. The green cattle fence is on your right hand side. Weekend Trip to Hawk's Nest Tionesta RV & Cabin

Kids liked the playground. It was nice to do laundry also. The showers went a little cold when they were both on at the same time but other than that it was nice and peaceful.

Great spot to stay at to break up the drive to/from the PNW. I was nervous based on Google reviews and previous reviews because of the trashed cars and randoms walking in during all hours of the night, and because I was out camping solo. I had no issues with that whatsoever! It was quiet in the evenings. Had the hot springs all to myself in the morning and at night. Perfect place to stop!

This place is magical! Our host gave us a great welcome with lots of history and practical information. Great bathrooms and kitchen area with drinking water. The camp sites were just idyllic by a beautiful stream. So quiet and peaceful. We went on a lovely walk. I highly recommend and the only problem was mosquitos which we didn’t prepare well enough for. 2 nights at Jubilee Railroad Wilderness Lodge

A great place to stay if you like railroad cars. Very nice interiors and modern bathroom with plenty of hot water. Fast internet. We were disappointed that the highly recommended restaurant was closed on Mondays and Tuesdays the days we were there. Someone recommended Yaks on 5 restaurant for dinner and we loved it. For breakfast we ate at Penny’s in town which was very good. We would stay again next time we pass through.

Weekend Trip to Cabin Hideaway

The cabin was cute, cozy, and felt very comfortable. The property was quiet and there’s a sense of privacy, although it is located right next to other people. There’s river access a short walk away from the cabin. We really enjoyed the thoughtful touches to the cabin including a dvd player, lots of books, and board games.

Weekend Trip to Camp Stoney Meadows

We had such an AMAZING time at Camp Stoney Meadows, we will for sure be coming back!! The ranch is absolutely gorgeous with beautiful little hiking trails and tons of creek access spots and swimming holes. The ranch itself is amazing with spacious fields and adorable farm animals (cows, a mini horse and donkey). Our pup, Fig, had a BLAST running around and playing with the amazing resident farm dogs. They were such sweeties. <3 Our campsite (tent site #7) was so spacious and lovely-- it was right next to the creek! We basically had our own private area! We loved that we could cook on the grill at our campsite, but that there was a full outdoor kitchen accessible with all the gear we needed. They have a bathroom and even shower accessible as well. The other campers were so sweet too, and even had a communal campfire at night. We would 100% recommend staying on Nora and Scott's ranch. We will be back, and will for sure stay longer than 2 nights.

This was our 1st time at Kosk Creek. It's a wonderful gem! Large campsites that have plenty of room between you & your closet neighbor. Porta potties were exceptionally clean! 100% will book again. We also got lucky at the reservoir 4 miles up the road. We caught 5 nice trout between 3 of us

It's a working ranch with tree farms, animals, hydroelectric power, sawmill, gardens, orchards, creeks, springs, trails, and our camp alongside Kosk Creek. We're 54 miles from Redding off of 299E, (about 1-1/2 hour drive). DO NOT TAKE ROAD 11 FROM THE NORTH, IT IS CLOSED! PIease try to ignore the "car art" in the Pit River Tribe's Rancheria as you're coming here. Drive right through it, it's no reflection on us. The last mile or so of the road here can be pretty rough, but on arrival, you'll know it's worth the trip! No Cell phone service available here, so it's the perfect opportunity to unplug. We do have a land line up at the house in case of an emergency. Also, if you really need it, WiFi is available at the house.

Overview

About

Ahjumawi is a one-of-a-kind park. For starters, it can only be accessed by boat – which automatically gives it a bit of flair. Once you paddle your way to shore, the turf is dominated by lava rock, pine forests, hills covered with wildflowers – all intercepted by a series of waterways. This park is truly an outdoor lover’s playground and offers an amazing place for a day or weekend retreat. The aqua colored waters offer a refreshing contrast to the park’s unique landscape. The park itself is a collection of “recent” (read: three to five thousand years old) lava flows that have formed into large areas of jagged black basalt. Since most all of the park is covered in this landscape, we feel like it makes the perfect spot for some old school mission impossible. The catch? There are no couches to jump onto and the lava is oh so real.

When to go

Crystal Springs Campground

Amazing spot, beautiful views and very primitive. Geocaching, lava caves and old native relics found here.

Some of the landing spots are a little difficult to see out on the water, a map is definitely key.
