Welcome to the “Boondocks!” Muddy Creek Campground and Farm is currently a work- in-progress. The property was purchased with a multi-phase dream in mind. Our short term and long-term goals are to provide a get-away, your way. Nestled in the hills of Copper Hill, Virginia, (elevation 2600 feet, population 1758, Muddy Creek Campground and Farm is 17.5 acres of pasture and a woodland get-away that includes rolling hills, rescued livestock, micro farming, RV and tent campsites, and primitive camping glamping. While staying with us, enjoy the change of seasons on the Blue Ridge Parkway (one mile from Muddy Creek), ziplining and hiking at Buffalo Mountain, swimming, tubing, and kayaking complements of the Little River, and follow the Crooked Road music tour. Our neighbors also include wineries, breweries, paintball courses, corn mazes in the fall, horseback riding trails and one week a year at the popular July FloydFest. At Muddy Creek you choose the accommodations, activities, food, and the amenities (or the lack there of) where we believe that your experience needs to fit your needs. Sometimes that may include eating and sleeping under the stars and nothing more. We recommend that, too. This property was once a 300 acre plus tobacco farm. The original log cabin was built in the 1850s and now serves as our dining room. The front portion of the house was completed in April of 1861 and the back in the early 1900s. We have plans to eventually turn it into a working farm which produces tinctures, salves and extracts of various native plants including hemp. Learn more about this land: Heavily wooded mountain side with flowing creek. Easy access (walking distance) to Jefferson National Forest, National Forest horse trail and the Blue Ridge Parkway. (Note: You cannot drive to the Blue Ridge Parkway as the path is an old forest road which has been gated, but you can walk up to it.)  We also have a small, uncovered tree house which is available on a first come, first served basis.  Only site 4 is next to the brook.  However, the site positions are for the purposes of the listing only.  You may camp anywhere on the property.  There is plenty of frontage on the creek and several tents can go up there. We also now have a purple bus which is retrofitted as a camper and has a refrigerator, stove and television which is connected to our internet. Formerly Meadow Creek Campground, this beautiful piece of land has two camping spots and a tent spot overlooking a meandering tributary of the Little River called Meadow Creek. The two camper sites have full water, sewer and electric hookup. Tent site is primitive, but guests can access water and electricity at the picnic shelter. A portable outhouse is nearby. Picnic table provided in each spot. Location is central to Radford, Floyd and Christiansburg. Cell service is spotty. It's a great place to unplug!

In what used to be an Apple Orchard and surrounded by treed hillsides, and just 20 minutes north of Roanoke, this will your new favorite private spot. Wildlife wander the property. Many songbirds. Bear not seen, but they are here. No wandering pets. Clean & quiet.Learn more about this land:Private area at my home close to exit 150 off I-81. Groceries and restaurants close by, 45 min to Natural Bridge, 20 to Roanoke city, 25 to Carilion Roanoke Memorial for travel nurses. Special rate given for longer term stays. Appalachian Trail and city park 5 minutes. Veterinarian 1 mile. Blue Ridge Parkway 15 minutes. Quiet people only please. No sewer, must self contain, though you can dump about 6 miles south at Gander, free to Good Sam members $5 others, or the honey wagon will come to you for extended stays. Terrain is hilly, 4wd recommended for back-in, but site is flat. I will help you if needed! NOTE: There is no turnaround up by my house. The best camping near Fairy Stone State Park guide

About

Renowned for its rare “fairy stones,” this forested park is hemmed in by the fabled peaks of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Immerse yourself in Elvin legends on a guided ranger walk or head down to the Staurolite Hunt Site to scavenge for your own fairy stones (yes, they do exist!). Once you’ve had your fill of magic, simple pleasures await at Fairy Stone Lake. Paddle in a rowboat, SUP, or kayak; sink your toes into the sand at the swimming beach; or fish for bass and trout. Fairy Stone State Park Campground has cabins, yurts, tent/RV sites, and equestrian sites. 

Tips for snagging a campsite

  1. You can reserve campsites, cabins, and yurts online, Minimum stays are in place for cabin rentals.
  2. Campsite and cabin reservations open 11 months in advance and must be made one day before arrival.  
  3. Campsites book up fast on summer and holiday weekends. Book a minimum of three months in advance to snag a spot.

When to go

Activities are seasonal at Fairy Stone State Park. The swimming beach opens from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, while the lake is stocked with trout in October, making winter one of the best times to fish. Hiking and horseback riding are possible year-round, weather depending. Camping season runs from early March through early December, while cabins are available year-round. 

Know before you go

  • Fairy Stone State Park is set about 90 minutes north of Winston-Salem by car.
  • Day-use parking fees and camping reservation fees are charged at Fairy Stone. State fishing licenses and equestrian permits are also required, and a daily fee for swimming pool access applies (this is included for campers).
  • Facilities include a conference center, swimming beach, restrooms, and picnic areas. Cell phone service is unreliable throughout the park.
  • Paddleboats, kayaks, and other watercraft are available for rent in season. Swimming is allowed only in designated areas.
  • Fairy Stone features accessible campsites, cabins, restrooms, picnic areas, and fishing areas.
