Milk Thistle Farm

With the original home built in 1785, Milk Thistle farm is on the historic register and is comprised of the main house and 5 acres of land. It is run as a small homestead sanctuary and is home to rescued chickens, goats, and pigs, as well as two humans and their dog and cat companions. The main property is fenced in, with a large back field great for tent camping, and an orchard to explore that can also double as hammock camping. There is parking for cars, bikes, and perhaps a camper but tent camping is best suited. We try to minimize our impact on the environment as much as possible, and encourage our guests to compost, recycle, and dispose of waste accordingly. Please note we have dogs, including a Livestock Guardian Dog that does bark to alert us of new people and warn off would be predators. This is the place to go and be one with nature鈥攜ou can camp amongst the thick forestry or head to George Washington Memorial State Campground and Management Area for a day of unplugging. A haven for hikers and mountain bikers, the 10 miles of three well-marked trails will take you around Bowdish Lake and even further off the beaten path to Wilbur Pond. Gray rock formations from the glacier lake dot the landscape for great spots to sit and snack鈥攎ake sure to bring your own GORP, you won鈥檛 find any vending machines here!

The ideal time to visit George Washington State Park is during the spring and fall when the weather is mild and the natural beauty is at its peak. Summer brings warmth perfect for water activities, though it can be crowded. Winters are quiet but can be chilly, so pack accordingly.
