Discover the most magical spots to pitch your tent or park your rig on your next Viento State Park adventure.

On the former site of a Columbia Gorge railway station, just off Interstate-84, Viento State Park and its day-use area are ideal for those wanting easy, direct access to a particularly windy section of the Columbia River that attracts windsurfers. Viento Campground offers quick access to one of the most popular windsurfing areas on the planet. It’s also a great place for kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, fishing, and swimming. The Historic Columbia River Highway State Trail—a darling of long-distance hikers and cyclists—passes right through the park, and Hood River, known for its numerous wineries and apple orchards, is just a short drive away.
Viento State Park is open from late March or early April through October. It’s located in a particularly windy part of Oregon, which can add to the chill factor, but if you come in July through September it’s usually pleasantly warm and dry, at least by Pacific Northwest standards. This is also peak windsurfing season, and the campground and area around it can get busy, particularly on weekends. If you love wildflowers and are willing to chance potential rain, come in April or May, when the area erupts with colorful blooms.
