The best camping near Shore Acres State Park

An erstwhile private estate-turned-state park on an ocean-facing bluff, Shore Acres draws visitors throughout the year with its elegantly manicured gardens replete with flowers and trees plus a couple of trails, one of which leads down to quiet Simpson Beach. There’s also a fully enclosed observation structure right on the bluff, where a mansion once stood, as well as an information center and gift shop stocked with souvenirs and locally made crafts. The park is only open for day visits, and camping isn't available, there are plenty of spots to pitch a tent nearby, including Sunset Bay State Park, a mile north of the site.

Shore Acres is open throughout the year, and different seasons bring different treats. The garden here has flowers in bloom starting in early spring, with daffodils and tulips coming in first, followed by rhododendrons, azaleas, roses, and then dahlias. The park also hosts annual nighttime light displays from Thanksgiving through New Year's Eve.

• Pets must be kept inside vehicles, but service animals are allowed in the gardens, information center, and other public areas.
• There’s a fee for parking, but  it's waived if you display your camping receipt from any of the area Oregon State Park campgrounds.
• If you need to pay for parking, be sure to bring cash or a checkbook. Credit cards are not accepted.
• The interpretive signs, picnic areas, viewpoints, and flush toilets at the park are all ADA accessible, and loaner wheelchairs are available.
