Weekend Trip to Superior Lake Effect

Howard's place was the perfect 1st stop for my families UP adventure. We spent an entire day enjoying swimming in the waves, playing in the sand, finding lots of fun sandstone and driftwood, walking to the river, and of course enjoying the sunset. The aroma while walking down the boardwalk to the beach was warm and inviting and the wild roses started blooling just in time for our enjoyment. Our kids said it felt like California on the beach, with no jellyfish. We very much enjoyed our time and look forward to coming back. Thanks Howard!

Great location!! Very private and peaceful. Property was very well maintained and had a level spot overlooking the pond. Several mowed paths to explore!!

3 nights at Superior Lake Effect

This site was perfect! The RV site is surrounded by beautiful trees and a short walk through the woods takes you to a great sandy beach. The kids loved looking for the perfect piece of driftwood. There is a great place, with chairs, down by the water and he even has a wagon to take your stuff down. Howard is absolutely great! He greeted us with information around the area and was always available to answer questions. The area is very low traffic and we barely even heard any vehicles passing. We very rarely go back to a site we have been too but we have already planned a trip back for next summer. The site is the perfect combination of woods and water.

Beautiful property and Evan was great! There were a lot of bugs in the air as it was nearing nightttime when I arrived to set up my tent. They didn’t bite but were super annoying while trying to set up. I had a great stay and would definitely stay there again! Thank you Evan!

The amenities were beyond what I expected! I didn’t use them all but they are a real treat for those who want to. I really liked the real toilet in the bath house, also not expected. Nice to save on our 13gal black tank when we can. I was also able to drive there with only 1/2 tank of water as I knew I’d be able to fill my water there as well! Electric and parking were easy. The beach - amazing! Can’t get better than this place, flat short walk and you are there. Along with views from the camp. I know about the pesty flies, so I was prepared with my fly suit, I highly recommend getting fly pants and hoodie for anyone going to the Great Lakes!

5 nights at EcoXtreme Adventure Destination

We had a wonderful time staying at the Copper Cabin! This was our second stay, both during the summer. We want to return for a winter adventure. Everything is as advertised. Mosquitoes were a little more noticeable this year and like to hang out on the front porch. A couple citronella candles from the shed helped keep them at bay.

Howard is an excellent host! My stay was exceptional. Site is clean and quiet and peaceful. You can hear the waves from the site. Lake Superior is a short, pleasant walk, and the deck with chairs for my day or night on the beach. Thank you for sharing your property!

Weekend Trip to Keweenaw Homestead Camping

We absolutely loved our time and Evan's homestead. The campsites were very well tended and Evan was very helpful and friendly. We took his suggestion of hiking Black Creek and it was a fantastic hike to a secluded part of Lake Michigan. Tent campers, site three is perfect. Two sand spots to set up camp that were much appreciated. This site gives you views of their pond where you can hear wood frogs and green frogs, at least 10 different types of birds, and so many dragonflies. It is the furthest site, but it brings a good amount of seclusion as well. The cart is a huge help for hauling gear. In the end it is a magical site.

Weekend Trip to Little Trailer on Big Lake

We couldn't be happier with our weekend stay, the property had everything we needed and more for a beautiful, private getaway. Jacqueline was amazing accommodating us last minute, since we were arriving late on a Friday night. We can't wait to come stay again, and enjoy the beautiful nature and great hospitality

Weekend Trip to Bear Tree Homestead

Our family loved our stay at Bear Tree Homestead! It was the highlight of our whole trip. We were welcomed by a friendly family of ducks and loved exploring. The trail to Hogback is right there and it makes the journey much shorter than starting at the trailhead! There were so many interesting books and the cabin felt so cozy. We will definitely be back, next time with fewer plans so we can just stay in the cabin! The sauna and pond were great, the kids liked canoeing around the pond. The outhouse was clean and just felt like part of the adventure.

I cannot express how much we loved this sight. It was our first time ever camping, and I don’t know how we will ever beat this site. It was amazing! 3 nights at Bear Lake Meets da Yellow Dog

We stayed for 3 nights at the Cabin at bear lake with our two dogs and cat. It was exactly as described. We loved getting some recs from the host and just spending the weekend out in nature. Susan was great with communication. It is a simple cabin but it was just what we wanted. It’s a short uphill walk from parking, water, fire pit and the pit toilet, but this allows campers some privacy at the top.

4 nights at Keweenaw Homestead Camping

We had a Teardrop trailer in site four just off the edge of a meadow. Quiet and private out there with lots of Service Berry bushes that brought in more birds. Very nice new looking picnic table and a nice metal fire ring rounded out the site. Perfect location for exploring the Keweenaw Peninsula. The host Evan is friendly and helpful.

Northern Oasis Camping

Our property is located between Marquette and Negaunee, in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. We are 7 miles from downtown Marquette, 8 miles from the shores of beautiful Lake Superior and 53 miles from Pictured Rocks National Park. We are about 4 miles off of US 41 nestled in a quiet forest like setting. We built our home here in 2019 and are continually making improvements to the land. We tap our trees for maple syrup in the spring-you will drive by our "sugar shack" and raise chickens in our very nice coop -no roosters to awaken you! Come and enjoy some peace and quiet at our Northern Oasis! There is guest internet but its patchy in camping area-better closer to the house and large firepit area There is a charcoal grill near communal firepit area. We are near 2 river basins(McClure Basin and Dead River Basin) for fishing, swimming and boating ( kayaks and canoe for rent on this site-see extras! ) We are on the route of the Ore to Shore Mountain Bike epic and not far from the North Country Trail. We have options of open sites and a few more private wooded sites. There are at least two or three areas for campers and several choices for tents and/or hammocks. 3 of our sites have private firepits. There is a communal/central fire pit, picnic table area as well as a larger fire pit with picnic table closer to house. There is fire wood available on this site -see "extras" or for purchase when you get here! If you don't like spots available when you arrive please don't hesitate to contact us-we do have other options! There are yard games including "Corn Hole", extra chairs and a small table in the red shed. This can also be used as a storm shelter if needed! There is an outhouse and a "port-a-john" on site- extra TP is kept in red shed hanging on nail in a bag.

Heritage Hills

It's situated on 21 acres of what was the original Wawonowin Country Club, a 9-hole golf course that was built in the early 1800s and then closed in the mid 1960s. And now we have a beautiful mix of hardwoods and pines, forests and fields with multiplied non-motorized trails accessible right off the property. The very popular RAMBA bike trails are literally an ‘stones throw’ away! Our biggest site, Fairway Field is big enough for group camping that horse campers love, and one site, the Homestead, with an electric hookup. We don’t have a dump station or trash cans so please pack in and pack out. Phone signal is good throughout the area and we are close to civilization for necessities and only 20 minutes from Marquette. So much stuff to do in this area!

The southern half is home to 8 charcoal kilns which employed a community prior to ownership. The mountain is approximately 1.8 billion years old. Learn more about this land: This property has 2 tent sites at the western base of Hogback Mountain. Site 1, The Falls Site, is located on a spring fed stream. The hike from parking to tent site is 1/4 mile on a well-marked hilly path. Campers can park at the main property on County Road HD or on the Garden Road, and will need to pack supplies to their site. Site 2, The Garden Site, is 100 feet from the stream and campers can drive to and park their vehicles at the site. Site 3, Mountain View Cabin, includes an outhouse and sauna. Sites have picnic tables, fire pits, and an outhouse. Campers are responsible for removal of all other waste. The 2-foot wide stream provides water for washing, but is not considered potable, and use of filters or boiling water is recommended. These isolated sites are beautiful and rustic and nestled in the midst of the Noquemanon Trail Network (cross country skiing and mountain biking) and North Country Trails and are approximately 2 miles from Lake Superior, Harlow Lake and Dead River. 4 kayaks/paddles/life vests and a 12 foot boat are available for camper use. Bear Lake Meets da Yellow Dog

Your host property is 13 acres between the Yellow Dog River, and Bear Lake, with frontage on both. The Yellow Dog River is a legendary trout stream, and many artists have found that the river satisfies their need for the wild. There are two cabin sites available, One overlooking Bear Lake with sunset views, and the other a cabin that was moved to the property in 1999 to preserve it. Both sites share amenities such as the outhouse, communal fire pit and water, but the cabins are not in close proximity so everyone has their privacy. They are both rustic cabins having no running water, or electricity. A futon with mattress cover is provided in each cabin along with a table and chairs. See the individual site descriptions for more details. We are 20 miles (app) north of Marquette, which is my home town. It is a destination for bikers, skiiers, and outdoor rec folk! There are so many things to see and do in Marquette, so make sure to plan enough time to check out the town! Also, just six miles to our north is historic Big Bay. A lumber town back in the day, it is full of history. Check out the Thunder Bay Inn, where parts of Anatomy of a Murder, starring Jimmy Stewart and Lee Remick were filmed. Don't miss going to the Lumberjack to see where the actual murder took place, either! You will find good eats and perhaps even some live music at either establishment. You'll also find everything you need in the way of groceries, and gas at Cram's General Store, where there's also a laundromat. Burns landing just north of the marina has the historic Burns family home renovated in a park setting, and a public beach access to mighty Lake Superior. This park has picnic tables and grills, and even a handicap accessible outhouse and trail to the lake. Yellow Dog falls is a short drive on Co. Road 510, and on the way be sure to climb Thomas Rock overlook. There are new bike trails if you're into that as well! Stay awhile. You'll be glad you did! We strive to offer peace and serenity to our guests, and love to share these woods with those needing tranquility and respite from a busy world. In this sensitive environmental area, we have only two sites to keep traffic down, enhance our visitors experience, and to protect the wildlife here. Unplug with us, eh!

Good things come in small packages, as they say. And while Baraga State Park, on Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, measures only 56 square acres, its location on the beautiful Keweenaw Bay of Lake Superior puts it squarely in the “good things” category. Along with tent and RV campsites, the park offers one teepee and one mini-cabin for rent, plus access to a short nature trail. Still, the draw of Baraga State Park is Keweenaw Bay, where visitors can be found swimming, fishing, and boating during the warmer months.

When to go

The ideal time to visit Baraga State Park is during the summer months, from June to August, when the weather is warm and the park is full of life. However, autumn also offers a spectacular display of fall foliage. Winters can be harsh, with heavy snowfall limiting access to certain areas, making it less ideal for visitors.
