Wyomanock Farm

31 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents75 acres · NY
Our 75 acres is a wonderful, diverse mix of habitat, harmoniously integrated with our small farm. This land was the homestead of the very first white settler of the area, John Wiley, in 1787. The Wyomanock Creek is the backbone of this little valley. Beaver have dammed the creek at several points to create ponds and other wetland features that support a diversity of wildlife including otter, moose and a myriad of birds, from osprey to herons. This sanctuary is host to many uncommon native plants and plant communities. We would love to share it with you! Your host, Thom, invites you to property to explore 75 acres of meadows, woods and water. Choose one of several sites either in the woods or open areas. You are also free to use our outdoor solar shower or take a dip in the cold pond! Our location is convenient to the Berkshire Mountains, state parks, hiking and other attractions, including Ramble Wild tree to tree adventures and Jiminy Peak. There are a few miles of rail trail access just down the road.

Otters and Eagles Cabin

1 site · Lodging5 acres · Stephentown, NY
This is a 1920's cottage that we moved and restored. The building site is an old Charchoal mound that was in use in the 1700's so there is a lot of history between the building and site where it sits. It's a beautiful spot right on the water, tranquil and full of wild life' we I built this cabin for the quiet enjoyment of our natural world. This is a place to unwind and reconnect. We have just added a 10*12 platform tent to accomodate an extra couple or for more space for older families with teenagers. This is still 1 site, tent just gives a few options if needed. You can find pricing for it in "extras" Enjoy water front camping on a quiet 15 acre pond, 4 miles from the mass border and Berkshire Mountains. Our cabin is cozy with a wood stove and beautiful outdoor fireplace, additional large fire ring and seating area. The cabin is equipped with a composting toilet and an additional large outhouse. An outdoor shower with hot water. This is a very private setting, super quiet and relaxing.

My sisters, their husbands and my husband and I enjoyed the hiking (although the trail was not discernible due to too many fallen sticks and, of course, the leaves), the fireplace, found some great things to do in the area -- e.g. Jiminy Peak, Hancock Shaker Village and dinner at Hops & Vines in Williamstown. My daughter and her husband and 2 twin 3-year old girls came for a visit and loved the leaves, the climbing structure, the toys downstairs and the book of poetry for kids. As always, it was a wonderful retreat from our usual busy routine in Boston. That said, we found plenty to do. We visited four museums (Clark, MassMoCA, WCMA & Rockwell), saw plays at Berkshire Theatre Festival and Shakespeare & Co., and hiked the trails at the Clark where we also took in a free concert. We dined at all our old faves and found a couple of new ones -- Haflinger Haus in Adams and North County Pastaria in North Adams. We love the location of Whitman Woods because it's so secluded yet equidistant from all the things we love to do. As always, we found the house clean and well-stocked. It's always a pleasure. --Anne & Ken December 1, 2013 - March 31, 2014 Thank you very much for sharing your house with us. We had a great time and the kids say it is "their ski house." It is like a second home for all of us. See you next season. --Susana & Jeannette October 11-14, 2013 Thank you for the beautiful home in the woods. The four bedrooms, large kitchen/living area were more than we could've asked for. We loved the fireplace and the fact that there was plenty of wood for a roaring fire was great! The best camping near Mount Greylock State Reservation guide

Overview

About

Stand atop the 3,491-foot Mount Greylock, and you’ll feel on top of the world—or at least on top of Massachusetts. The state’s highest point affords views across five states on a clear day, and it’s possible to hike or drive to the summit. Inspiring writers such as Herman Melville and Henry David Thoreau, this storied peak also provides the backdrop to year-round wilderness adventures. Hikes range from woodland walks to an 11.5-mile stretch of the Appalachian Trail, while winter trails allow for backcountry skiing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling, and the primitive campsites are all hike-in only.

Tips for snagging a campsite

  1. Eighteen tent sites and nine group sites are reservable via the Reserve America website.
  2. Online reservations open four months in advance and must be made one day before arrival.
  3. Campsites can book up fast, especially over summer or on holiday weekends, so plan ahead and book as soon as possible.

When to go

Outdoor adventures take place year-round at Mount Greylock, but the main season runs from mid-May through October. Outside of this season, many facilities, including camping and auto roads, are closed (Note: Camping is sometimes available in the off-season by request). Expect traffic congestion and crowds on weekends throughout the season; plan an early start, especially for holiday weekends. Fall is a popular time to visit, when the park’s fall foliage drives afford spectacular views.

Know before you go

  • Mount Greylock State Reservation is in the Berkshires, 12 miles north of Pittsfield or about a 25-minute drive. The visitor center is located along Rockwell Road, at the start of the summit road.
  • There’s no park admission fee, but parking fees apply at the summit car park.
  • Mount Greylock facilities include a visitor center, restrooms, and lean-tos for hikers. Accommodation and meals are available at the Bascom Lodge on the summit in season. All campsites are hike-in only with a minimum 1.3-mile hike—potable water and composting toilets are available in the main season only.
  • There are ADA-accessible parking spaces, restrooms, and viewpoints at Mount Greylock.
