There is firewood for sale via Venmo right in the parking area, $6 per bundle. There is also a nice outhouse. There are 4 first come, first serve sites with tent platforms and fire pits. There is quick access to the Rockingham Recreational Trail, which is ideal for walking, mountain biking, and exploring. There is also a great swimming hole nearby called Chivers Pond. A lighted path leads from the parking area to the campsite, where you'll find a stone fireplace, campfire chairs, a table, complimentary firewood, and a couple of bottled waters to get you started. A full size cooler is available for your use. Fire suppression water is provided on site — just ask if you need more.
A designated waste disposal barrel is provided on site. Please be sure to properly secure your waste before dropping it in the barrel.
Dogs are welcome on leash. Well-trained dogs with reliable voice commands may be considered off leash. Dogs may not be left unattended at the site. I do have a long line for your dog which can be utilized at the campsite.
This is an LGBTQ+ welcoming space. All guests are welcome here genuinely, not just by policy.

The Layout: Water, Woods, and Wildlife
The property is uniquely situated between two active streams, creating a natural soundscape that drowns out the hum of the modern world. Because we focus on the preservation of rare avian species, the morning chorus here is unlike anything else in the region.
We currently offer three distinct sites, each with its own character:
The Stream-Side Retreat: Perfect for those who want to fall asleep to the sound of rushing water.
The Forest Edge: A shaded spot that offers the best vantage point for birdwatching.
The Meadow View: An open area near our working farm zones, great for stargazing.
While we are still installing more permanent infrastructure—including our upcoming composting and dry toilet facilities for the 2026 season—we make sure the basics are covered so you can focus on the environment. This is a place for campers who appreciate the "DIY" spirit of a farm in progress.

Bakers Island Light Station sits on Bakers Island in Salem Sound, is a 60-acre island with a large summer colony. and guides ships in and out of Salem Harbor.
The 10-acre light station includes the 59 ft. tall lighthouse, historic structures such as two keepers' houses, an oil house, and a lantern room (now a gift shop). Formerly owned by the U.S. Coast Guard, the deed was transferred on August 27, 2014, to the Essex National Heritage Commission (Essex Heritage), a non-profit dedicated to public access and preservation.
ABOUT THE CAMPSITE
Enjoy off-the-grid coastal living at the Bakers Island Light Station Campsite. With only three camp sites, it's an intimate and private retreat — set up your tent on a raised platform, meet the summer lighthouse keepers, stroll the island trails, and unwind — just three miles off the coast of Salem!
GETTING TO CAMP
The only way to reach the campsite is by boat. Three options are available:
1. Our landing craft, the Naumkeag — $70/adult, $50/child (ages 4–12). Departs from Blaney Street Dock. Contact us to purchase tickets. You must provide the first and last name of each passenger.
2. Your own boat + mooring rental — $50/night. You will need your own dinghy to get ashore, as there is no dock. Contact us to reserve a mooring.
3. Kayak — For experienced kayakers only. The island sits in a busy channel with potentially rough waters.
All campers must arrange transportation after booking. Details will be sent upon confirmation.
IMPORTANT
The $60/night fee covers up to 4 people per site. Maximum capacity is 4 people per site, and names of all guests must be provided before arrival.

You can enjoy glamping in our greenhouse-tent for peace and tranquility. There is a cabin built inside the tent. It is under a canopy of trees with a cool pond breeze prevailing. The bed and linens are first rate for a very comfortable stay. There are shelves, potable water and a table within. It is heated in the cool temps and fan cooled in the warmer days. There is a kayak and paddleboard available to borrow. There is a dryflush toilet, hand sink and outdoor heated shower in the back of the tent. Cooking is on charcoal grill and toaster oven. There are dishes, cups and utensils for your use. as well as coffee press and hot water boiler.
The 40 acre pond is 65 feet deep. It is a kettle pond which is spring fed with no river inlets to pollute it. Access is a little tricky with 100 yard hike from the parking area down a steep slope. The pond is stocked with bass and trout for great fishing. The birds are amazing. Henry David Thoreau wrote about White Pond in his book, Walden as the "emerald eyes of the world." This is a place that magic happens.

Campsite is situated in the wooded area on our property land that integrates into hundreds of acres of conservation land with hiking trails that are also great for XC skiing, kettle ponds, and wetlands. The property is surrounded on 3 sides by conservation land with trails, 45 minutes from Boston and 10 minute drive to groceries, stores and restaurants.
The house is right off a country road with our property and conservation land both across the street and behind our house. The area is in the heart of New England and is beautiful at all times of year. Minutes from Rte 495 and 2, we are along a popular bike route, 10 minutes from Carlson Orchards and the bistro/cafe Harvard General Store.
We have goats, chickens, and lambs that guests can say hi to.
Please note: Guests may camp only on the terrace unless otherwise approved. We do not sell or provide wood, electricity , shower. There is a woodpile but we cannot share this with guests but it’s our winter heat source, however we know a place you can collect cut from for a small fire. Our bathroom is available for guest use until about 9:30 at night, after that there is a gas station a mile down the road. No parties, and quiet time is from 930 on.

What a wonderful place to stay. We didn't expect a ton of wildlife in the area, but were pleasantly surprised with the insects, butterflies, and birds (ton of barn swallows) that came to visit the cantina courtyard daily. The sky views were pretty magical, and the Abigale was great in communicating instruction and directions. This was a great stay, highly recommended and would love to visit again!

Sweet spot for camping with family near the beach. Awesome stone fire pit with grill and cooking utensils. Abbie left fire wood ready for us when we arrived. Flexible arrival, easy to find, private, and clean bathrooms. I would definitely camp there again.

This was a beautiful and unique place to spend a quiet night. The site was clean and level, with a lovely view of the quarry, and it was incredibly peaceful. We slept very well after a long day of traveling. Firewood was available, which was also convenient. The host’s house is visible from the site, so it isn’t completely secluded, but this was accurately shown in the listing and we were able to position our van to create a little more privacy. Overall, it was just as described and a very peaceful place to stay.

Amazing place- you'd have no idea other folks were at other sites, they're really spread out and you can't see or hear anyone else!
It was also awesome to walk around the old mill. We'll definitely be back, a really great place to unwind.

My boyfriend and I loved our stay here! We stayed in site 4 where we enjoyed a fire by the brook, some lounging in our hammock and a great night's sleep on the platform. The area was perfectly shaded, quiet and spacious enough for everything we needed. Also the outhouse was clean and fully stocked! We're so excited to come back!

Nice even ground with plenty of space for my truck. Very private yet close enough to a town where you feel safe and if you need anything last minute there a store 10 min down the street. Good cell service. Overall highly recommended. Close to Newport RI and Boston for day trips.

Weekend Trip to Ponderings at White Pond
We celebrated my birthday weekend here. I would highly recommend to anyone who wants a laid back, peaceful weekend by a beautiful clear pond. Claudine and Henry were excellent hosts and gave us a tour so we knew where everything was. They were 100% accessible to us, but we still had our privacy. I enjoyed using the paddle board.
We used to do more rustic camping for my birthday weekend but this was just the upgrade I needed for my beleaguered middle-aged body. The tent/cabin was very cozy and clean, with electricity so we could curl up to a movie at night with our laptop. A hot shower was much appreciated after a day of swimming. Very comfy bed.
We used the rocket stove for most of our meals, which is great for cooking in a pan or open flame grilling with just a small amount of wood. Also used the charcoal grill. The toaster oven was perfect for roasting potatoes.
I also just really enjoyed talking to them! Laid back, kind people and I would 100% visit again.

Beautiful, private, quiet location and perfect amenities (toilets, running water, trash can). We did not use the showers, but great to have those, too!

We had a great stay at this Hipcamp! Very easy to find our site between the signage and the map sent to us before our stay. Our dogs loved exploring the trails close by. It was super quiet and peaceful, just what our family needed for a few days! Thank you Chantell!

Abigale's Back 40 was exactly what we needed! Quiet, spacious, easy to navigate. At night the stars would come out into plain view, which was gorgeous. We loved being able to use the wash area too, it was super clean and cozy. We loved it so much, we booked another night on our way back. Thank you :)
