We live off grid in one of the toughest climates in the US. We have about 15 acres of land bordered by 10,000 acres of wild forest preserve. We share our experiences with campers in good weather but exist here all year. I am a Qualified NYS Woodland Guide. My actual license is pending the processing of fees and registration. This should be complete by July 1st of this year. I have over a half century of knowledge gained through a lifetime of hiking, exploring and living in this environment. My main focus is the land, lakes, ponds and streams in the lower Adirondack Park. I leave the high peaks, ice climbing and white water rafting to others that choose that speciality. My goal in guiding is not that of a just a follow me and listen guide. I strive to help those interested in learning about and enjoying the outdoors so that you take away real life skills you can use once we are done. I did search and resuce work as a volunteer for many years under DEC Forest Rangers. To help contain costs l will allow up to four people to participate at one price. Also, my wife makes soaps, potions and lotions under the Dragonfly Gypsy logo. These normally, only available at shows or Etsy, are now available in limited quantities here at the homestead at a guest only reduced price. She uses mostly natural oils, tallow and ingredients sourced from the local Swartzentrubber Amish Comunity that surrounds us. It is known to be one of the most conservative Old Order Amish Communities in the country. Many are consider our very close friends. If you would like Amish made products, l can arrange that as well. Many people are now thinking of doing what we have done. If you so choose, we can schedule time to discuss any of the off gissues that may be unanswered in your mind. The original intent was to offer a peaceful place for you to escape for a short time. That is still our main purpose. The site is located on a private lake (90 acres). Campsite sits on 7 acres of woods only a few hundred feet from the lake & dock. No more RV sites in the property, only one spot.
It is quiet, private and relaxing. The vibe of the lake is to chill and relax, laud activities not encourage. No motorboats allowed on lake for a more relaxing experienced. Bass fishing is amazing and the water is perfect for swimming.
Next to the campsite you will have a nice fire pit with Adirondack chairs, plenty of firewood for sale at a low cost.
Dogs allowed, maximum party of 4. Water, sewer and electrical hookups. Wi-Fi its free. No bathrooms or showers in the premises.

Located right off the ATV trails and just 15 minutes down back roads from the world-famous Salmon River and Salmon River Falls, our off-grid family camp is tucked away a quarter-mile down an old private dirt road in the woods.
Now, we say "off-grid," but this camp gives you the choice to either rough it like they did in the old days or use our generator system to power lights, a TV, shower, microwave, and electrical outlets.
This is a great place to stay after a long day of fishing, hiking, or ATV riding, or if you're simply looking for peace and quiet away from the crowds.
The cabin features a bed in the loft, a pull-out sofa bed, and two additional beds in the side room. (These beds can remain in the side room or be moved into the main cabin if preferred.)
The kitchen runs on propane, and we provide the propane. We also have a fire pit with water located nearby for safety.
If you decide to run the generator and power up the camp, we provide two 5-gallon gas cans. (If the generator runs all night, it will use approximately 5 gallons of gas.)
We enjoy coming out here so much and wish we could stay for weeks at a time, but sadly we can't. So, we're opening up our camp to others who enjoy the outdoors and can appreciate and respect a good old family camp.
I can also provide recommendations on fishing spots and weekend adventures for fishing or ATV riding for guests who are new to the area. Just ask!

My husband and I were looking for someplace quiet and private to relax and unwind. Karl lives on the property behind the cabin and welcomed us with a burning fire. Even with Karl on the property directly behind us, the cabin faced out into the forest and felt very private. We saw Karl one time when he stopped to ask if we needed anything. We came prepare to camp in a rustic cabin and were pleasantly surprised when we walked in to find we really didn’t need much. There was a camp stove and all of the cook wear and utensils, along with dishes, cups and silverware. Karl and is wife have really put thought into every detail. It didn’t bother us a bit when the nights were cold and the first night rained hard. We found a heater and Yahtzee game inside to keep us warm and content. I really can’t think of one way they could improve. Karl was very friendly. We didn’t get the pleasure of meeting his wife but maybe next time because we definitely plan to visit again. Thank you Karl.

A beautiful and affordable stay! The hosts were wonderful, we (the dogs and I) had the whole property to ourselves. Checked out the local conscience store/sandwich shop they recommended and it was excellent. There’s electricity but no heat so I brought a small space heater with me for the chilly nights, it worked great for the space! The dogs loved the pond and all the land to run on. The cabin was very cozy. Thank you Sydney for making this a beautiful and affordable place to stay. It was amazing, we will definitely be back!

We absolutely loved the Smithy! Sydney and Peter have a wonderful set up from extra blankets to keep us warm and the hot shower made our trip was so enjoyable. We fished in the pond, took walks around the property, and watched the sunset both mornings from the top of the hill. Our dog absolutely loved the cut trails and joining us fishing and doing yoga! Truly a one of a kind spot. We can't wait to visit again!

2 nights at Coyote Hollow Park
We had a delightful stay at campsite number two. While originally booked in campsite number one, Christine and her husband asked us if we would be interested in moving to site 2 and we are glad we did. It was a 24 square foot tent with a couch, all kitchen essentials, a fridge, lots of bedding, a trashcan, flashlights and a heater. Only thing that we were required to bring with the clothes and shoes. Everything else was either present or available to buy from the camp store. The store was filled with food items, ice creams, drinks bathrobe, spa packets, basically everything you would need on this getaway. Plus, they provide breakfast in the morning on the days of your stay, which is very filling and elaborate. In fact it was one of the highlights of our day to be having breakfast amidst such nice lush views. The stay also comes with a complementary night of using hot bathtubs, which is just a few steps away from the camp and is highly recommended. The walk behind the campsite into the forest is beautiful especially this time of the year as we could spot a lot of fall colors and leaves. In the morning, the camp is filled with chirps of the birds. The only hiccup during our stay was the incessant rain during night time and then some until the next afternoon. So next time we would take the rain insurance, but host fixed us with heater fuel amidst the heavy rain. It was really helpful. We enjoyed dinner just 20 min drive away in the town of town named Cooperstown.

It was a wonderful stay. The cabin was perfect for an anniversary getaway weekend with our 2 dogs. We explored the property with them and earned our cellular signal with a walk up the hill a few times. We had beautiful sunny days but the weather has turned chilly at night - a small electric heater that we brought kept us comfortable without issue. The sandwiches at Bob’s were wonderful and the whole weekend was a success - thank you!

Our experience at The Christmas Tree Farm Hidden Delight was absolutely wonderful. Mary was a fantastic host. She was friendly and thorough in her communication, even recommending places to enjoy in the area. We arrived later in the day and were thrilled that she had started a fire in the woodstove inside the tent and had also started a campfire for us. So very thoughtful and a fabulous surprise. The site itself is incredibly private with amazing views. The firewood she provided was dry and plentiful, a bonus since it was a bit chilly for much of our visit. It was great to be able to have the dogs off leash too. We enjoyed our time immensely and highly recommend the site. Thank you, Mary!

Weekend Trip to Reflections Homestead
Being welcomed by Karl and Danielle and our path illuminated by torches was a new Hipcamp experience for us. They made sure we had everything we needed to be comfortable and made us feel welcome. They have trails cleared and Karl offered a lot of local tips and suggestions for the surrounding area and into the Adirondacks. The atmosphere, maintaining a quiet space, and providing private campsites are priorities for them and we very much appreciated that.

Weekend Trip to Reflections Homestead
We had such an amazing time. The cabin was so cute and they provided a heater and build a fire for us to come into. We loved being surrounded by all the nature and it was so peaceful and calm. We went on a hike. we had great food and we just really enjoyed ourselves. It was a short distance up to old Forge for us where we had some stuff we needed to pick up And then when we came back, Carl had built us another fire to come home too, and it was just amazing. We listened to the owls and the squirrels and all sorts of other animals in the woods. Was so peaceful. We definitely would love to come back again

The site is gorgeous! Mary was super kind and explained everything about the trails and campsite very well. The canvas tent was so cozy and there is so much room for other tents, outdoor games, and sitting around the fire. We will definitely be returning in the future! ❤️

1 night at Camp Benjamin
We only stayed one night but had a lovely time. Benjamin was very helpful and gave us great tips for hikes in the area. Definitely recommend!

Weekend Trip to Coyote Hollow Park
We stayed at the new site 3 with its own set of soaking tubs and private bathroom/shower. It was a great time beautiful spot everything was provided that we needed to have a great weekend here! Hope to be back next year!
