I am Karl and with my wife Danielle together we own 15 acres of peacefully settled forest on the edge of over 10,000 acres of State Forest land. It is on a seasonal road. I have no registered address, but a small sign marks my access road as Jacob Lane. This is a tribute to my friends. The Amish that helped me build our off-grid cabin. It is very quiet here, but we are an active homestead and work starts at 9am every day, we do our best to be considerate and ask the same from you. The forest rangers and DEC officers that patrol here keep a tight rein on the forest and its preservation. We have one guest cabin and several places a tent or RV can park. There are no hookups. Please bring some potable water. We do have spring water available but it's a drive. I first came here about 15 years ago. I would like to try and see if others would enjoy what we have made our lives. I do like to talk and although I don't lie, stretching the truth is an artform I have perfected so be prepared. There is a state-run beach and picnic area about 3 minute drive away on the Hinkley Reservoir. And a few other bodies of water to kayak and fish. We have Kayaks for use at an extra cost. We are about 15 to 20 minutes away from the Herkimer Diamond Mines. You can bike, hike, nature watch or just enjoy the peacefulness of the tree you chose to sit against. Down and ready firewood is everywhere if you want to bend over and pick it up. You can possess firearms on the property, but you may not discharge one without prior approval unless it's to save your life or that of another. There are places not far away that you can legally shoot and enjoy yourself. There are traditional outhouses on the property and for those that know how cat holing is allowed. Ask if unsure. No dumping tanks or portable toilets anywhere and that includes the outhouses. The state of New York has facilities at campgrounds that do a proper job with that type of waste. The Serenity Cabin is a quaint little 1- or 2-person and maybe a small child getaway. A full-size bed with table and chairs. A small 2 burner cook stove. Solar powered lights, and a few kitchen supplies. There is no running water so please bring your own water. There is a fire pit, picnic table and gas grill for use, along with lawn chairs. It is a short walk to the outhouse located out back. There are trails through out the 14 acres to walk or bike. Enjoy the peace and quiet of nature while sitting in the serenity of the woods.

Into the wild is named this because the beautiful covered porch looks out into the wild forest. This cabin has a couch that pulls out into a full size bed as well as extra cots for extra guests. A small table to enjoy your camp meals. The covered porch has a small 2 seat table and chair and looks out into the forest as well as over looking the fire pit. Come sit, there is plenty of room around the fire pit on the large logs for those cool nights. Enjoy the trails that are cut out around the property there is 14 acres here to enjoy as well as state land. There is easy access and plenty of parking at this site. Come sit by the fire enjoy the quietness and listen to what the forest has to say.

A true guest experience

Into the wild

Being welcomed by Karl and Danielle and our path illuminated by torches was a new Hipcamp experience for us. They made sure we had everything we needed to be comfortable and made us feel welcome. They have trails cleared and Karl offered a lot of local tips and suggestions for the surrounding area and into the Adirondacks. The atmosphere, maintaining a quiet space, and providing private campsites are priorities for them and we very much appreciated that.

We had such an amazing time. The cabin was so cute and they provided a heater and build a fire for us to come into. We loved being surrounded by all the nature and it was so peaceful and calm. We went on a hike. we had great food and we just really enjoyed ourselves. It was a short distance up to old Forge for us where we had some stuff we needed to pick up And then when we came back, Carl had built us another fire to come home too, and it was just amazing. We listened to the owls and the squirrels and all sorts of other animals in the woods. Was so peaceful. We definitely would love to come back again

The best stay you will ever have!

This was a great stay. Karl is one of the best hosts that you could ask for. The cabin was nicely insulated. Wood was abundant to keep the fire going as long as you would like. There’s a path that you can walk up and down with beautiful scenery. The price was very reasonable for what you’re getting. I’m DEFINITELY coming back.

We had such a peaceful time here! Karl and his wife met us at check in and gave us the run down. We had some great conversation and Karl even started the fire for us while we ran to the gas station for last min items! It was such a nice surprise to come back and have it going. Also Karl does an amazing impression of the local owls and tried to bring one in closer for us, it was quite the entertainment!! We needed the respite after being at our lil sisters wedding the night before. The stars at night area AMAZING! I highly recommend a stay here! I also can’t wait to see how the cabin grows in its decorating! :) Thanks again for sharing your property with us we will see you again! ~Sonya, Matt & Evie 🐾

Karl was an amazing host! My partner and I stayed here for a bike trip through the Adirondacks and Karl accommodated all of our needs and requests. The space was clean, welcoming, comfortable and I’ll definitely book another stay!

Great simple rustic cabin stay

Great peaceful stay in a rustic cabin. Karl was very friendly and greeted me even though it was quite late. It was a little hard to find the place in the dark because he doesn't have an exact address, but there is a traffic cone marked HipCamp at the end of their driveway that was very helpful. Nice clean space and kind attention to detail of showing me how things worked and making sure I was all set. Their cabin being close felt nice as a solo traveler, but I imagine couples looking for a romantic stay might hope for more distance from their main cabin. I was comforted by the sounds of their watchdog and the stars were beautiful. If you're sensitive to laundry detergents with fragrance I would bring your own blanket to block that from getting on your clothing from the sheets.

Karl is such a wonderful host, one of the kindest people I've met! The cabin was perfect, in an isolated spot, but still close enough to civilization if there was an emergency. It was cozy and had a ton of supplies like pots and pans, garbage bags, plastic cutlery, paper towels, a wash bucket. I appreciated the camp stove too! The fire pit was great and there was firewood there, along with kindling. The outhouse was super clean. Karl and I sat for a bit (after checking on me I invited him to, otherwise he gives you plenty of space!) and had an interesting conversation about life, which was great. There were also some barred owls at night, and he knew how to call to them. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. Thanks for your hospitality Karl! 10/10 recommendation

The stay was more than we could have asked for- every detail was considered by the host! We arrived to the tiki torches lit for us, more than enough wood for the stone fire pit and found the cabin clean, comfy & totally equipped. We would have loved to stay longer, but we only had one night. The name “Serenity Cabin” is absolutely perfect for the space!

Serenity cabin is great if you’re looking for a peaceful, covered, low-key, off-grid stay in the woods. Karl and Danielle were awesome hosts who gave recommendations and assistance when needed. The grill outside +fire pit +propane stove inside allowed for multiple cooking options along with other provided amenities. The creek/reservoir had tranquil kayaking and nothing best fresh water out of a spring.

Karl and Danielle were wonderful hosts. This off grid property is very peaceful. We chose to stay in our Campervan but the Serenity Cabin is delightful. We enjoyed our stay and recommend this site to others.

Relaxing in front of a crackling fire, surrounded by warm, honey-hued logs, is what cabin living is all about. Plush upholstered sofa and chairs make it easy to stay seated for many idle though happy hours.

Had a fantastic stay on Karl's property; he and Danielle are exceedingly kind hosts. I was coming to stay in a tent, but as it had rained heavily earlier, Karl offered to let me stay in his guest cabin which was super comfortable and smelled great.. They even invited me to join them for dinner which was a nice surprise! Had myself a campfire and a relaxing evening. We spent a good amount of time chatting the next day about the philosophy and the technology behind off-grid living. Karl also had some fascinating stories from his time working in search and rescue. He has a great sense of humor and is very knowledgeable about the outdoors. I highly recommend you stay in this forest oasis!
