Our camp is located on a quaint pristine, offshore Maine island. We are an easy 1 mile walk from the ferry landing once you arrive.
We have a shared use golf cart for our guests to get to and from camp!
Great Cranberry Island is a beautiful peaceful place where the pace of life slows, nature abounds and the stars are bright.
There is a small well stocked general store,, a museum, cafe and miles of pristine trails and rocky beaches to explore. Bicycles can be brought on the passenger ferries and are a great way to get around and further explore the island.
Our camp is on the site of our former organic farm called Cabin Creek Farm overlooking the ocean (a tidal estuary called the pool), where we grew flowers, herbs and veggies.
You can even kayak directly to us at high tide.
The sites are a combo of a mixed manicured deciduous and conifer forest and open spaces with ocean views.

Ellie's RV Spot is a single RV site designed for use by any length Class A thru C motorized or towable style recreational vehicles including conversion vans/off grid vehicles. 50 or 30 amp electric, water, sewer and screaming fast wifi are included.
All RV's including off grid and pop-ups must set up on GRAVEL PAD only. This is to prevent damage to the private septic system. Your camper RV, off grid van or pop up MUST have an on board toilet, composting or otherwise, no exceptions. **Tenting is not an option on this site, sorry.** The RV's pictured belong to past guests and are not available for rent.
A sister cabin shares the half acre site and is separated by a 16 foot long 9 foot high fence. This cabin is booked up 95 percent for the season.
Ellie's location allows easy access to both the Mount Desert Island section of Acadia and the Schoodic Peninsula section.
Well behaved dogs/pets are allowed on the site for $7 per pet per night. If you would like to bring a pet, please add a pet fee which is listed as an extra during the booking process. All pets on site must be leashed at all times, no exceptions.
Campfires are allowed on this site when winds are under 10 mph. Check local weather first. We continue to provide free, locally grown, organic firewood in order to combat inflation and help you stretch your vacation dollar.
While Ellie's doesn't have direct water access, there are many shoreline points of access close by. Beaches and water access are everywhere. Wide open space does exist. Come explore the Maine coast.
Commuter traffic can be seen and heard from Ellie's RV spot. State route 204 funnels park visitors to Acadia and the MDI area. In 2024 nearly 4 million people visited the Acadia area. Slow down, plan ahead and be patient.
2025 update: You can purchase your park pass online and print it before you arrive. Reservations for Cadillac Mountain are now required due to overcrowding.
We have one security camera located on the main fence. This is for your protection as well as ours.
For winter stays please send a request before booking. We have 30 or 50 amp electric and sewer only from Nov 1 ~ April 30. Water, wifi and trash removal are suspended for the winter. Snow might prevent access during some weeks. Request first!

Come relax on this private 5 acre waterfront escape. A long driveway will open up into a cleared lot. The end of the driveway is a large crushed gravel parking pad which should easily accommodate any RV or trailer (make sure you back in, there's no room to turn around). The pad is mostly flat, but minor leveling on RV's is probably still needed. Site overlooks Flanders Bay which feeds into Mount Desert Narrows. Watch the family of 5 eagles fly back and forth across the cove and bring binoculars to watch them as they perch in nearby trees. The cove is filled with a variety of seabirds and the occasional harbor seal. You will have complete quiet as you listen to the sounds of forest and coastal life.Property is located 11 miles from Schoodic Peninsula of Acadia National park and a quick 35 miles from Bar Harbor. From May through mid November, site includes access to a HOT outdoor shower, well water, a working sink with hot water.
Water is turned off after November 15th until late spring, weather dependent.

We now have water! A 300’ well and a hand pump make for some ice cold water onsite, It’s a little rusty in color but great for washing dishes and bathing. Rustic tent site with fire pit, firewood, picnic table, and outhouse. It is a very secluded and quiet site surrounded by birches, spruce, a young maple stand, and some cute fledgling pines.
There's open space to the south with sight-lines toward Frenchmans and Flanders Bay. To the north, east, and west, there's about 70 acres of tree-growth with some old logging trails to casually bushwhack if you feel it. There's a glacial erractic (big big boulder) not terribly far from the site. Please note that it is possible to get lost if you go deep (though unlikely).
There is proper hiking throughout the area, not least of which is Acadia National Park and Lamoine State Park. But there are hikes even closer. Long Ledges is just a couple miles up the road (off Punkinville, right by the high school). And these trails are ambitious, even connect up all the way to Schoodic Mountain, which in addition to being a great hike on its own, is surrounded by Donnell Pond and Tunk Lake. Further trails throughout and amongst the State Preserve are great. Swim, fish (get a license before doing so), boat (plenty of public landings around to put in a kayak), hangout. Biking is probably best on the carriage roads of Acadia, which are island-side on MDI, or over at Schoodic in Winter Harbor (make a loop starting at Frazier Point). Sullivan has a stretch of the sunrise trail, which is an ATV trail, and which is billed as bike friendly but it's not super great for tires narrower than mountain bikes.
Go eat seafood at Tracy's, less than a mile up the road. Eat some ice cream at Shanahan's Sweet Retreat. Dunbar's Store has a good beer selection, carries an assortment of food stuffs including some vegan options-variety is the spice of life. Young's Market has breakfast Sammy's, coffee, pizza, cigs, fuel.
Check out our 70 acres in tree-growth with some old logging trails. Casually bushwhack on if you feel it. There's a glacial erratic not terribly far from the site. Please note that it is possible to get lost, though unlikely!
Please be courteous and respectful of the land and neighbors. Please be mindful that the Maine region is in moderate drought. Pick up after yourselves. Listen for the wildlife, look before speaking. Enjoy!

Stuart Little’s dream house is an off-grid cabin on the edge of the woods, in the backyard of our home. The cabin is perfect for people who are camping, but want a little more accommodation. It has two futons that can turn into double beds, table and chairs, small porch, outhouse, and a picnic bench. Bring your sleeping bag and camp stove, and you are all set! There are also places to pitch a tent, if desired.
We are just a mile down the road from where EB White lived, the setting of Stuart Little's dream house (our yard) gives a glimpse into some real Maine living: Boats and boat trailers, a rambling garden, and often a free pile at the end of the driveway.

Activities nearby:
-5 minute drive from Francis B. Woods Preserve/Frenchman Bay Conservancy, a 438 acre forest with miles of trails that sit above the Maine coastal islands. Offers unbelievable hiking trails and beautiful views of coastal Maine.
-5 minute drive to Bartlett Maine Estate Winery, Maine’s oldest winery. Option to take the canoe across Chicken Mill Pond and walk from there.
-14 minute drive to the Schoodic Marine Center, where you can take a ferry to Bar Harbor for the day and catch a ferry back. While on the boat, look for wildlife such as seals, harbor porpoise, bald eagles and other waterfowl. Arriving in Bar Harbor, enjoy shopping, restaurants and other in town activities.
-Cycle down the 29 mile Schoodic National Scenic Byway.
-17 miles to Schoodic Peninsula and the famous Schoodic Point, where you can catch amazing ocean views.
-5 minute drive to Prospect Harbor Lighthouse.
Places to eat:
The property is located a short drive from scenic Winter Harbor, which has a variety of locally owned restaurants. It's also only about a 25 minute drive to Ellsworth, which also has multiple eating options and grocery stores. Bar Harbor is only about 40 minutes from the property as well, which boasts some amazing eateries, shops, and other activities.
NOTE: This site is fully off-grid and requires walking approximately 3-4 minutes on a forest trail from the parking area to get to the site. All equipment must be hand-carried in. There is limited power and potable water. Guests should be prepared for an off-grid yurt experience. Bedding and cookware also are not provided.

Tucked among spruce, fir, and birch on Sunshine Island in Deer Isle–Stonington, Four Acre Woods began more than 60 years ago as a small, family-run campground known as Sunshine Campground. Travelers from across the world visited this quiet island forest, drawn to its raw beauty and the peaceful energy that generations before us had loved and cared for.
The campground eventually closed in the 1990s and sat untouched for over 15 years—its trails, clearings, and old campsites slowly reclaimed by the woods. The land waited, quietly, for someone to bring it back to life.
In the years that followed, Caleb, a longtime local operator on the island, took interest in the property. Recognizing both its history and its potential to offer people a deeper experience of Deer Isle’s natural beauty, he began the process of carefully restoring and reopening the land.
Working season by season, Caleb rebuilt the sites, added new infrastructure, re-established utilities, and designed a campground that honors the land’s roots while offering a comfortable, modern, and nature-forward experience for today’s guests.
In July 2020, the property reopened under a new name: Four Acre Woods.
Today, it blends the spirit of the original Sunshine Campground with thoughtful stewardship, simple comforts, and a deep respect for the forest that surrounds it. When campers request private sessions during their stay. 2. When wellness professionals host ongoing services onsite. 3. During WSS-hosted events that feature healing arts practitioners. Our event space will be available for rental and collaboration with local businesses, nonprofits, and community groups—so long as their purpose aligns with our values: promoting wellness, building connection, and supporting mental health through holistic means and nature's tranquility.
Each year we will build on this wilderness campground to make this a place for many. For 2025 we have just a few campsites, some have platforms, some without. Each campsite has a buffer of vegetation with the lake as a view, a fire pit and space to have more than one tent. There will be a camp style toilet; currently we are in motion to have a wooden privy built. There's no running water, not much cell service, no electricity. Park at the main road and pull/carry your camping items into the woods. Your site will be labeled. Trash in, trash out. Firewood, camp owned canoe, and walk the beach (if low levels). Dog friendly: must be friendly, on a leash and please be mindful of dogs digging. Here we value the land, it's sanctuary and soil erosion prevention along the shoreline. There's a hangout at the entrance. Friends and Family Market on rte 1A is the closest resupply.

Sunflower Ranch is the name of our home and property.
Not only is our cozy, modest house sunflower yellow but in August it is surrounded with sunflowers of all sizes.
We share our property with a flock of sweet hens and ducks.....and a few bossy roosters.
Eggs are available for purchase if needed. There is a little greenhouse with herbs, greens and strawberries. The field is also an apple orchard that mostly feeds the wildlife. The tent site is privately placed in our cove unseen from the house.
We wanted to offer a site that we would enjoy as well and feels like it is
in a world of its own. We spend all of our free time outside, camping and paddling the local rivers and lakes. Tommy and I can recommend many beautiful remote Maine adventures for you to experience that are located off the grid and away from all other humans.

We can give you a pass to visit the Beech Hill Pond Beach also only 1 mile away (I walk there all the time)

sandy bottom. Great spot to spend the day sunbathing and swimming.

The Deets:
We offer two (2) parking sites suitable for an RV or tow trailer no longer than 40' and no taller than 15'. There is a 50 AMP hookup, plus recently tested well water and newly re-piped septic. This site is down a 350+' private No Outlet drive with limited lighting, surrounded by a thicket of trees on all sides for total privacy and the serene quiet of forest life in Downeast Maine.
While we are not yet set up for tent camping, stay tuned for when we open additional sites!

On the property itself, we have 20+ acres to explore including a trail that begins* your trek up to the peak of Young Tunk Mountain. There, you can begin your day early and treat yourself to a brilliant glimpse of the first morning light in Sunrise County. Or, enjoy an evening of stargazing with beautiful clarity steps away from a blazing campfire with the opportunity for songs, stories, and laughter to last a lifetime.

A very sweet and rustic Hemlock cabin, along with secluded 17' and 14" bell tents, plus 2 private campsites sit along beautiful Webb Brook. Walk through the large open field, away from everything, to this storybook setting. All you can hear is the waters of the brook rushing and sounds of nature all around. Graham Lake is just a stone's throw away. Great for kayaking, fishing, and swimming. This magical place is just beyond our farm where we you can buy fresh chicken and duck eggs daily at the house.
In the cabin, upstairs, a lofted queen bed accessed by a sturdy wooden ladder. Downstairs, a wood stove with dining area, and living space with full sized convertible bed. No electricity, no plumbing, no wifi. Good cell service. Composting toilet and water tank for use inside cabin. Gas grill and firepit with tripod grate outside for cooking options. Two large picnic tables for outdoor dining. Truly a magical place.
The campsites and secluded 2 bell tent sites are hidden away along Webb Brook, sitting among the pines and hardwoods. A port-a-potty available for all guests' use. Almost 9 acres of land to explore and discover, as well as Graham Lake just a walk away.

This was my first Hipcamp and it was great. The cabin had everything we needed and though it definitely got cold, as we were visiting in mid-November, a fire and plenty of blankets kept us warm through the nights. This is a lovely little camping and so peaceful!

Wouldn’t feel comfortable in windy weather just due to the shallow rooted trees- but it’s a beautiful spot! Reminded me of camping on the Olympic peninsula.

We enjoyed the beach, and I would highly consider coming back at a warmer time. The campsite we stayed at wasn’t as big as it looked in photos, so there was some maneuvering near the old house to fit our two tiny trailers.
It was an hour to the main Acadia entrance, but so beautiful out there. If camping in tick season, bring spray and check your dogs. We were covered.
Beach was 100/10.

We had the best time at this site. The views were absolutely incredible. We had better sunset views from the campsite than we even would in Acadia. Having the water, electric plug, and bathroom on site was so helpful, too. We ended up tent camping, but the little house was such an added perk, too for storage, spending time together, etc. I can’t recommend this spot enough!!

My husband and I were visiting Acadia and spent the night at the rabbit run spot. There was firewood and water set out for us and we were given clear instructions on how to get there. Best of all: a bathroom with a toilet and running water!! You’ll be greeted in the morning by chickens, ducks, and their dog Sadie if you’re lucky. If we’re ever back in the area we’ll 100% be staying here again. Thank you Mike and Cheryl!

We absolutely loved our stay at Four Acre Woods Campground. If anything we wish we had stayed longer! The campsite was out on a very quiet island, truly not too far from our outings. We stayed on the primitive secluded site which was absolutely perfect. It was very spacious, with tons of privacy, located steps away from the community cabin. We wish we had more time to enjoy the community cabin as it was warm, filled with books, games, cookware, utensils, lanterns, ice, tea, coffee, local guides and cozy sofas. Our campsite additionally had a private walk way to the bathrooms, which we were pleasantly surprised by for a campsite! The shower was equipped with shampoo, conditioner and body wash if needed, and the bathroom was as clean as you could possibly expect a campsite bathroom to be! Firewood was easy to purchase and bring over to our campsite which we appreciated. The hosts were very kind and helpful and we truly hope to be back again next year to hopefully spend a much longer stay at the four acre woods and get a chance to experience the onsite sauna :) thanks so much for having us! Would 110% recommend. (Ps. Just beware of deer and wildlife on the drive in, it is deer isle after all ;) )

About
Driving the 27-mile Park Loop Road as it curves along the Maine coast and swoops past Cadillac Mountain is a “choose your own adventure” situation. Shall you scramble up a lofty “ladder trail” or hike to an island across a sand bar with ocean views? Or simply go tide-pooling in a rocky cove? The upper-crusty influence of the park’s founders is most evident on the 45 miles of finely graveled carriage roads, now hosting bicycles instead of horse-drawn buggies. For an ever-classy end to a day, visit the Jordan Pond teahouse at the base of Mt. Penobscot for tea and a popover.
Acadia National Park Glamping
Glamping options abound on the outskirts of this beloved Maine park. Encompassing headlands and islands along the coast of Maine, Acadia National Park has long been a popular place to get away from it all, offering miles of opportunities for adventure in the form of hiking trails, beaches, and waterways. While camping options in the park are limited to RV and tent sites, there are five lean-to shelters at Duck Harbor Campground on Isle au Haut. If you want something a bit more glamorous, a fair few options can be found within a quick and easy drive of the park's main area. Acadia glamping options include rustic cabins in the woods, canvas tents (some with heating), A-frame cabins, and homely renovated campervans along with plenty of yurt rentals. Glampsites typically have beds, toilet access, camp kitchens, and other creature comforts, and while some include bedding, others require campers bring their own sleeping bag and pillows.
Yurt Rentals Near Acadia National Park
Cozy up in a yurt just outside of this coastal Maine favorite. Coastal Maine’s Acadia National Park is known for its magnificently rugged headlands, plus its miles and miles of scenic hiking trails and motor roads. Acadia is also a fantastic place to go camping in the summer—if you're lucky enough to secure a campsite. While tent campers and RVers have options throughout the park, those wanting to stay in a yurt rental will need to head to one of the private options outside of the park's boundaries. Fortunately, there are lots of Hipcamp options to choose from not too far from the park, meaning you can spend the night in the warmth and comfort of a yurt and then head out the next morning for a day of fun in the park. Yurts near the park tend to be plush, with beds or futons for a comfy night's stay, and some are big enough to accommodate up to eight people.
Notable campgrounds
- Best for hikers: From Blackwoods Campground, campers can hike to the coast and Cadillac Mountain.
- Best for bicycling: Schoodic Woods Campground borders a one-way, scenic loop road.
- Best for families: South of Southwest Harbor, Seawall Campground offers picnic tables and is great for hiking, biking, kayaking, and swimming.
Tips for snagging a campsite
- Reservations are required for all four campgrounds in the park. There are no first-come, first-served walk-in campsites.
- Make reservations online through the National Park Service up to three months in advance for Blackwoods, Seawall, and Schoodic Woods campgrounds.
- Blackwoods is open from early May, while Seawall and Schoodic Woods open in late May.
- Reservations for the five tent sites at Duck Harbor Campground on Isle au Haut (reached by mailboat) are available beginning April 1 every year. Duck Harbor campsites are open from mid-May.
When to go
High season is July and August, when the weather is warmest, up to 90°F, and kids are on summer vacation. Spring and falls are also pleasant, but temperatures are about 10 to 20 degrees cooler. Leaves typically change color in mid-October. All campgrounds close in mid-October, and the Park Loop Road closes by December 1. Two short sections that can be reached from outside the park—Jordan Pond Road and Ocean Drive—remain open. In winter, visitors can cross-country ski and snowshoe the carriage roads but hiking trails can be icy and treacherous.
Know before you go
- Most of the park is located on Mount Desert Island, also home to the town of Bar Harbor.
- The Schoodic Peninsula is part of the mainland. It is an hour’s drive between the peninsula and Mount Desert Island (and there are no shuttles).
- Island Explorer operates 10 shuttle routes between the park and local communities from late June through mid-October.
- A commercial ferry travels between Bar Harbor and the village of Winter Harbor on the Schoodic Peninsula. In summer, the Island Explorer shuttle picks up visitors in Winter Harbor and carries them to sites along the Park Loop Road on the peninsula.
- The Bicycle Express shuttle runs from Bar Harbor to the park carriage roads from late June through late August.

If you enjoy Lobster, Maine is the place to go. Acadia is beautiful in the morning afternoon and evening. We were there during govt shutdown but got lucky to still get into the Park. Cadillac Mtn is the tallest peak on the eastern seaboard so check it off the bucket list (sts).
