Short and sweet stay
We had a wonderful time during our short stay! We camped with our two young daughters and our two small dogs. Farmer Pat was as kind as could be and showed us to our camp site and told us all about the property and the horses. He let us know about the coyotes and their pups that we might hear howling and said they would sound closer than they actually were, which we counted on during the middle of the night! The miniature horses and donkeys gave us a very warm welcome in the morning. We enjoyed exploring the beautiful and serene property, trails, forest and pond and just wished we could have stayed longer. (One night was all we could manage with a toddler!) We definitely plan to return!

We Loved Camp Avery!
Pat and Deb were the most welcoming and gracious hosts! They were accommodating to all of our needs and beyond. We were lucky to have the hiking trails to ourselves and find a true moment of peace at Camp Avery. Your space and privacy are respected - we chose to invite Pat down to our fire and one of the best parts of our trip was getting to know all about him, his land, and his family. Not only is he friendly, it’s also important to note he was incredibly respectful of COVID boundaries.
We can’t wait to go back, hear the wildlife, and see the guardian of the forest (the knight protecting the woods so that Pat + Deb’s grandkids don't get scared), and hopefully catch Deb for a psychic reading!
10/10 would recommend.

We found this site totally by accident while planning for a trip from central Illinois to the Philly area. It was the perfect half-way stopping point. Fairly close to the freeway. Nice, clean sites. Very accommodating hosts, etc.... And, very family friendly.

Beautiful spot
We only had the pleasure of spending a beautiful, but brief, 12 hours at Camp Avery on our cross country journey. But we highly recommend! Camp Hosts Pat and Deborah were very friendly. We got an opportunity to meet the horses on the way into the site. We arrived as the sun was setting and didn’t have as much time to explore as we’d like, but got an opportunity to take a look around in the morning. Such a beautiful place! We had a nice fire, outhouse is very clean. The only thing we would change is the length of our stay. ;) Camp Avery, being our first stop, set the bar pretty high! We would definitely return!

Outhouse by pond was very clean! Campsites are right off a mainly desolate gravel road. It is back in some woods and 5-10 minutes from Piedmont Lake Marina, where you can go kayaking or boating!

Wish we could have stayed longer
What a wonderful campsite. Deb and Pat are some of the sweetest most accommodating hosts we have ever had the pleasure of staying with. The site was secluded and tidy with plenty of wood to burn. There is a gorgeous meditation spot and so much love that has been put into the whole property that you can get lost for hours just exploring. The animals are all friendly and beautiful, and they love to be pet and fed. All in all Camp Avery is a fantastic campsite in a private and gorgeous part of the country.

Read this before you book....
We booked our stay here because we needed a weekend away in a remote location. Our daughter loves horses so this camp looked like a good fit.
The hospitality we recieved was absolutely outstanding. During our stay we could not find marshmellows to roast over the fire through the several citys we drive through! The "marshmellow shortage" came up during conversation with the host when we first met. Soon after while we were at our camp site they delivered a fresh bag of marshmallows on the house and said "I can't let your little girl go without marshmallows and a fire!" This gesture alone gets them a good review as they were genuinely being kind. They also took the time to let my daughter feed the horses, pet the donkeys and take some pictures. They offered fire wood if we ran out and many other things.
We were not able to stay at the main camp sight because it was booked. Our sight was a decent sized lot directly off the gravely road. It was "ok" but not very appealing. We wished we could have stayed at the main site however, this wasn't a deal breaker. We had a freshly mowed lot with a fire ring. Our lot had 3 hiking trails directly by our site and a small creek to explore not far down the road.
Over all we were happy with our stay. You couldn't ask for better people. Having the Piedmont Lake so close was very nice as we fished there and had about a 10 min drive back to camp. We very much enjoyed the miles of back gravel roads. We seen so much wildlife and beautiful scenery. It was great.

All around amazing. Wish we had a longer stay planned so we could have spent more time in this perfect place. The site that we camped on was right next to a beautiful Creek. This was an amazing get away. Hopefully we get the chance to come back!

Our first visit to Camp Avery, but likely not our last! We booked very last minute, and our hosts were very accommodating! We chose a site along the creek, instead of in the pines, and it was very peaceful! We were brought dry firewood, and were told to just holler if we needed anything. Great little place! We look forward to returning.

We really enjoyed our stay at Camp Avery. The owner was pleasant and showed us around the property when we arrived. We were in a campervan and could not get to the normal camping sites because it had rained so much, but he found us a nice little clearing just off the dirt road that did just fine. My wife and I were the only ones there that weekend so it was just us and 35 acres to explore. It was the quiet little getaway we needed.

This campsite has it all - little horses with pasture, woods, trails, open field, and even a pond. The open field campsites are surrounded by woods with trails around the property that overlook a ravine, and lead to a small crop of large boulders in the woods. Wildlife abounds - we saw horses (not wild), toads, birds, butterflies and fish. Pat was a perfect host. He gave us the lay of the land, and showed us out to the campsites. Later, he returned with a cane pole ready for fishing if we wanted to use it.
Campsite has a slight grade all around (it's in the hills after all.) There was plenty of shade, except when the sun was directly overhead. Accessibility might be an issue in wet weather. The dirt road through the woods to the clearing is short, but might become a challenge if it got very wet. This time, we arrived after dry weather, and even after a night of storms we had no trouble getting our 2WD VW camper van in and out. Maybe I worry too much.... We'll be back I'm sure.

My family & I were looking for a private place to camp to have some true family quality time w/out technology. Camp Avery turned out to be exactly that & more. The owners own 40 acres of beautiful land which included a bunch of trails to go explore & a pond. I cant forget to mention their cute little ponies. Each of them had their own personalities 😊. They also have some donkeys. BB was our favorite mostly bc she was closer to our campsite & made us laugh everytime she ould talk. At camp Avery there is a little jewel of hidden beauty. A short distance from the camp site was a beautiful landmark of big sand stone boulders all covered in lush green moss. All positioned in a circle! It was amazing for those of you who are history buffs, love nature or mysterious things. We would all go sit on the stones & have our coffee in the mornings. My favorite part of our trip. Farmer Pat & Deborah were very welcoming & good people! This has now become one of our spots to come back to every year! I defintely reccomend this campsite for some good old wholesome family time!!

Beautiful, peaceful camp spot!
Excellent hosts in a beautiful, peaceful location! Went for a quick solo weekend getaway and found the solace I was looking for. Was lucky enough to be the only one camping that weekend, so I had the entire place to myself. A clean, welk-kept outhouse, sweet little trails through the magical winding woods, a beautiful calm pine forest great for hanging a hammock, and the sweetest miniature horses/donkeys to keep you company. Deb & her husband were so welcoming, even bringing me extra dry firewood and checking in to make sure I was comfortable. Would highly recommend it for a calming retreat.
