2 nights at Baileys Basecamp

The Ridge Camp A site was beautiful to spend a couple of days in. The person who helps shuttle people’s gear up to it, Keith, was so nice and helpful! The platform for our tent was much appreciated, as we arrived after a day-long rain. We also appreciated being able to pre-order a dozen eggs and have firewood up top to purchase when we needed it. We came to this area to go hiking and wow, did we get some steep hiking in just going down to the bathroom! It was worth it to stay up in the ridge but just be prepared! And speaking of bathrooms, there were two super clean, brand new ones with showers on-site to share with other guests. That was a real plus. Also down by the bathrooms was a little community hangout spot with picnic tables, hammock stands, Adirondack chairs, and a firepit. Another bonus. Love this place, would definitely stay again.

7 nights at Heartland Homestead

I liked camping at Mother Oak Campsite at Heartland Homestead. My hosts were very generous, giving me extra sleeping bags when I needed them to stay warm. When the torrential downpour of rain collapsed my tent, they let me sleep in the barn and gave me use of the cabin for the day after I paid an extra $25 to nap in it, until I found a longer term option to live in on Airbnb. I was camping to give myself more time to find an Airbnb host willing to host me. I successfully completed my mission. Watch out for ticks. They are everywhere. They have a cute and friendly barn cat named Moonbeam that became my best friend. I spent lots of time cuddling with her. She likes to make biscuits a lot though, and her claws are very sharp. I sang songs to the goats and the cows who came over to me to listen to me singing The Sound of Music, The Happy Wanderer, and Sing A Song by The Carpenters. The goats came up to the fence to be petted and eat dandelions and to lick me. The chickens mostly made a lot of noise and ran around but they were pretty to look at. I was really sad to know they were all going to be eaten (except Moonbeam) because I am a vegan and I want them all to live to old age on a farm animal sanctuary. It breaks my heart they are all going to die soon. But they are living really good lives right now, with plenty of room to roam, and are very well cared for by the entire family. I just wish they got to live them all the way until their natural deaths from old age.

Weekend Trip to Limestone Bluffs

The Wolves Retreat site was quiet, private and surrounded by nature. The wooden platform was ideal for our screen house as it chose to rain most of our stay. We have a small teardrop and it fit in the site just fine but the grading of site limits your options. We didn’t want to get too creative as the ground was wet and didn’t want to get stuck. There are a few other sites on the property but only heard others if they were walking on the loop road by our site. The loop could use a little more gravel in places but other wise a nice road to the sites. There is firewood for sale but it was wet as the shed it was stored in wasn’t covered enough. The host was quite responsive with the reservation and in providing details. We walked around the trails and the other sites seem nice too. The Bluffs is only 1.5 hours from home for us and most likely we will be back again.

It's a wonderful placed, very nice people. Beautiful countryside, nice and quiet. We advise everybody who really want to camp in nature to visit this place.

4 nights at WALKAbOUT Creek Campground

What a great camp! Carl is very personable, the grounds are beautiful, it’s very secluded (ie; off the beaten path). The camp has a common area to hang out and cook or bonfire or play games. There is also a full ~on grid~ bathroom with a shower and that’s attached to a small game room with a tv and air hockey (if you absolutely feel the need to stay connected). A really peaceful getaway but only about an hour drive to Marietta to the SW, Granville to the NE & Hocking Hills to the south. My sister and I tent/car camped here for 4 nights and 5 days and really hated to leave. 😊

Weekend Trip to McKee Farm - Treehouses and Camping

One Tree Hill was great! The one aspect I look for is quiet and Autumn and Carols farm has it. I slept better than I have in a while.

Weekend Trip to Barrel Run Creek

Booked a night here pretty spur of the moment and it’s not really camping season yet so I was surprised to see firewood stocked. We had a kid with us that was new to camping so this was a great first trip for him. The kids explored and the parents relaxed. This is close to my office so I’ll be adding it to my favorite.

1 night at Heartland Homestead

Heartland was perfect for me stopping through on my road trip! I was able to pull my car directly to the site and set up my SUV tailgate tent. I arrived after dark so it was a little difficult to find the entrance, I only had to turn around once, but during the day the entrance is clearly labeled and it is just before the Equestrian property they mentioned. It was a safe and quiet spot for the night and I would absolutely stay again!

Weekend Trip to Limestone Bluffs

They have a great set up here. There's a variety of different camp sites on a ridge, each with their own character, off of a gravel loop. The Zen Den was set back in a private clearing among a young trees on a platform, which was handy in rainy weather. The other sites looked appealing too, some in pine trees, others in more of a lawn/clearing. There's a little bit of traffic noise from the nearby highway, but I was there in early spring, and the Zen Den was quiet. I was there off season, so was the only person, but this is probably more lively in the summer. There's a cool viewing platform looking out over the valley. I'd definitely stay here again!

I loved tent camping here. I enjoyed hiking around the property. I hope to come back in every season. You have to order the cinnamon rolls, delicious!! I really enjoyed the solitude.

Weekend Trip to Limestone Bluffs

We didn’t want to leave! My friend and I typically enjoy a more primitive backpacking style of camping, but this trip was just more about time at the campsite with more creature comforts. We set out to make this the most comfortable camp out possible, and Wolves Retreat was exactly the vibe we were going for! The host has this set up so nicely with an extremely easy check-in/check-out. We never even saw or heard another person during our stay, so we’re not sure if anyone else was staying on property - but it felt very private! Would highly recommend this site for a small group.

Weekend Trip to McKee Farm - Treehouses and Camping

We absolutely LOVED the tree house!! It was beautifully crafted and decorated, comfy beds, clean bedding and an adorable place. The middle deck was perfect for the rainy weather. The lofts were easy to get in and stand up in. There's a creek in the back that our pups adored. We will definitely be coming back with our kiddos next time!!

I really enjoyed the peace and quiet during the two nights I camped here. The host was very helpful in getting me booked since it was a last minute decision to camp there. This is the third time for me at this site and look forward to coming back.

This spring break was my first with my two kids (ages 8 and 12) since they moved away, and the Treehouse in Tullihas was exactly what we needed. It gave us a peaceful, off-grid space to reconnect, unwind, and enjoy each other’s company without distractions. The location is beautiful, with scenic views, rolling hills, and nature all around. We loved hiking, sitting around the campfire at night, and taking in the stillness. It felt like time slowed down in all the best ways. The hosts were incredibly kind and thoughtful, checking in to make sure we had everything we needed while still giving us space to enjoy our stay. If you're looking for a quiet, meaningful, off-grid experience to reconnect with loved ones or recharge on your own, this place is a gem. 2 nights at McKee Farm - Treehouses and Camping

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Tullihas in the Trees. Our group of seven (two adults and five kids, ages 10-15) visited in March, and even though it was chilly at night (30 degrees! 🥶), the propane heater kept the chill off. The treehouse was a little snug for all of us to sleep inside, but we made it work. 😁 The kids kept mentioning how thankful they were for a break from internet access and a chance to connect. The location is beautiful, with a creek nearby, plenty of hiking opportunities. There is parking next to the treehouse to easily unload our stuff. One of the highlights was meeting Carol, the owner, who made it possible for us to visit and feed the horse and goats! We made so many great memories and are already looking forward to our next visit! 🌿🌲🏕️

Weekend Trip to Todd’s Fork Adventures

What a nice site- close enough to town for easy resupply but far enough to be private and remote. The site was clean and had good level ground for tents, and hosts were extremely accommodating and excellent communicators. Highly recommend staying here.

Great place to enjoy some down time! The property is beautiful, camp sites are spread out. Location is convenient and close to town. I did some hot tent camping. Would love to revisit during the different seasons to enjoy. Appreciate Rick's communication and hospitality! This place is a great find!

This really is a must visit cabin! Pj was a huge help when my wife and I and of course our fur baby came to stay during the new years. The cabin was so cozy, clean, and just perfect for some much needed relaxation. We will be back for sure!

Learn more about this land: Our camp spots are very easy to drive right up to. They are overlooking a small bit of woods. Wake up in the morning to birds chirping. The area has a large clearing for children to play. but the privacy you need to enjoy a nice evening around the campfire. There is a pond for fishing, and a nice deck that is avaliable to use. There is 25 acres here and you are welcome to use it for your enjoyment. We do have fencing to keep our horses in so please we ask to not climb over the fences as they will shock you as they are electric. You will see chickens goats, rabbits, horses, dogs, and cats on our hobby farm. The wildlife you may see include squirrels, deer and racoons fox etc. Located 2 miles from interstate 70 for easy access. NewConcord is just 3 1/2 miles down the road and is the home town of John Glenn you can visit his home place there, or pick up grocerys. Cambridge is the next town away at 8 miles and you can go shopping there, We are also near the Wilds, Blue Rock State Park, and Jesse Owens State park. Hope to see you soon!

McKee Farm is rich in memories and rich in history. It has been in the family for over 150 years and we were told that it was one of stopping points for the underground railroad. The 240 acre farm boasts a hidden cave, wide open fields, breathtaking forest land, and historic and rustic barns. Nestled at the edge of a wooded creek, Tullihas in the Trees treehouse boasts a beautiful sunset view with rolling hills. Tullihas combines comfort with the thrill of being immersed in nature. Built using recycled electric poles, Tullihas in the Trees has a deck perfect for hammocking, an interior dressed with windows so that guests can feel as if they are living amongst the trees, and two small lofts ideal for a restful night's sleep. Oxley in the Woods is our newest treehouse cabin. Nestled in the woods with a view of the sunset, the lovely A Frame is filled with lovely woodwork, vintage parquet flooring, and private wooded views. The deck is huge! We've had guests set up a tent on the deck beside the treehouse for fun! Swings, and a slide make the Oxley a fun adventure. The double bed in the loft and the two stacked single beds are comfortable and cozy. The McKee Farmhouse was built in the 1800s and is rich in memories. It's a rustic old house, with wood trim, hardwood floors, and plenty of imperfections that make it unique. You can sit on the porch and drink your coffee with a view of the barn and pastures, or cozy up in one of the house's four bedrooms and sleep in. The house is fully air conditioned and heated, has all the amenities of home, but takes you back to a simpler time. Our campsites are all set apart from one another in various locations on the 240 acre farm. Secluded and unique, each campsite has its own charm. We provide guests with a fire ring and a shovel, and some sites have a picnic table. Hiking trails are marked throughout the land. Guests can hike with views of horses, cows, wildlife, corn fields, large boulders, and rustic barns. The dirt roads provide great places to drive ATVs and four-wheelers. An Amish farm borders McKee Farm. Guests should know there is minimal cell service, however, this can offer a great opportunity to unplug. Tullihas in the Trees provides a perfect remote and rustic getaway for anyone. In October and November, access to hiking is limited.

Blueberry Farm Campsites

We have lived here since 2004, the blueberries have lived here for over 60 years. This site has more topography than most of the surrounding county. Learn more about this land: Several sites available on an organic blueberry farm near Oberlin College and Lake Erie. Blueberries are ripe in July. Site #2 is down by the Chance Creek, about 1/2 mile from the driveway. Very peaceful down there - a walk-in site. Site #1 is about 100 yards from the driveway, Site #1 also has access to a small shed. Both sites are woodsy and away from neighbors, roads and houses, however the interstate is not far. When the wind blows from the north you can barely hear it, but when a south wind blows and/or there is rain on the interstate, it can be pretty loud. We don't have a latrine. We have two "luggable-loo's" if you need them, have liners, too.

The Campground is just a 8 min drive from downtown Jackson, where you can stop in and sample some of their locally famous places! If your feeling pizza, then you have to try Cardo's or, LaRosa's Pizza, If you want some good local BBQ, hop on over to Rowdy's Smokehouse. If you want to try a Western themed Roadhouse, there's Dakota's, or you can relax by listening to some live music while you eat over at Stockroom 601. If Micro Brewery's are your thing Sixth Sense Brewing Co. is the place for you! Want to just take it easy and learn a little about the region? Bass and Buck Tent Adventures

With over 230 acres, a lake, trails, the Grand River, and plenty of wildlife. Bass and Buck Adventures is the perfect place to get away. Once known as Parkman Gorge the valley was a hub for water powered industry in the early 1800's. The river and valley is home to a wide array of wildlife. Deer, turkey, eagles, hawks, owls, mink, river otters to name a few. The area also attracts many song birds including a wide variety of warblers. There is also an abundance of wild flowers. The valley is rich in Native American history. Many artifacts have been found on the property. My great grandfather talked about the last Native American to live in Parkman had a cabin on one of the bluffs along the river. In the 1820's there was a water powered sawmill and forge on the river. The boy scouts used the valley for a camp in the 1930's. My grandpa purchased this property in the 50's from Ohio Edison. Ohio Edison's plan to dam up the river for hydro power never materialized. The valley has been a favorite for outdoor enthusiasts. Camping, hiking, fishing, hunting, "jeeping". Many of the items used for the camp sites have been reclaimed. The fire rings are old tractor rims and scrap steel. The tent platform is from reclaimed deck lumber. The firewood is excess cutoffs purchased from a local sawmill. Shady Owl Ranch

Shady Owl Ranch is a 18 acre non-profit animal sanctuary with dogs, cats, chickens, ducks and turkeys. The cats and poultry are free range so if you are fearful of chickens, ducks or turkeys, you probably shouldn't stay here. 😁 Owners Chuck and Amanda moved from Northern California and re-established their rescue here in Central Ohio. We have two finished studio cabins. They are very close (2 miles) to the town of Mount Vernon, OH with hiking trails on the property. Pets are allowed but there are free range animals on the property so their safety is priority. We have added a 2 acre fenced in area for dogs off leash. It's our version of a Dog Park. Plenty of bike trails around town and only 20 miles to Mohican State Park. Farm fresh eggs from our rescued chickens and local honey are available for purchase. Money from our vacation rental helps with feeding our rescue animals and expanding our non-profit animal sanctuary.
