Host was incredibly inviting but left us be. Great set up, right next to a creek for the kids to roam around.

Tent camping in the woods
Took our toddler camping for the first time here. We actually ended up staying at Janine's other campsite on their farm because this one was a bit more tight in terms of space (it would have been totally fine for us adults, but the other site is a bit more open/larger which was helpful for having a kiddo running around).
Janine was a wonderful host. Make sure to check out the video she sends so you can orient yourself to getting around the place. We crossed the creek no problem in our Subaru Forester (AWD), but it is a 14% grade, so you definitely need the AWD or 4WD.

Peaceful and perfect campsite
Had a wonderful time at this campsite! I don't have 4WD so had to cross the creek by foot but I really enjoyed that aspect. The site was private and had more amenities than I was expecting - table, chairs, trash and recycling! Decent sized fire ring and the oven rack was convenient to cook over the fire with. The creek felt amazing to rinse off in and was a very relaxing sound to fall asleep to. The road nearby was noisy early in the evening but quieted down a lot when we were actually wanting to sleep.

Great stay! Highly recommend!
Janine was a great host who remained very communicative from booking to visit. Highly recommend as the site is secluded and situated high above the creek. There’s an easy access to the swimming hole and in late June the temp was chilly but perfect to counter the humidity.
4x4 was a must to get across the creek and climb the hill to the site. Be prepared following rain as the site will have some mud. With a rooftop tent however, we were living in luxury. Neighbor dog also liked to test their vocal skills throughout the night.

Across the creek
Neat location with horses that roam. We were tucked in the corner which was great for our dogs. Our host was more than willing to accommodate any of our needs. The creek area is nice to walk just wish the weather was warmer to play in the water. Definitely cruise down to Buckeye Dairy Bar, it was delicious and such a nice find!

Staying here was a magical experience! We spent the evening sitting by the campfire listening to the water rush by. The site was lovely and we had no problem crossing the creek with our all wheel drive. The horses were beautiful. We are already planning our next trip to turkey creek cove! Hopefully the weather will be warm and we can take advantage of the swimming hole.
Turkey Creek Cove
Not worth the cost but private.
Compared to staying at a national park with a real restroom that costs $7.50 a night based on my age, the site is the not worth the cost of $25 plus fees. Be ready to wade across a stream and hope it does not rain, camp on dirt, watch for the piles the horses leave behind, wear ear plugs since you are close to a highway and bring you own chairs that are clean. The 5 gallon bucket for a restroom speaks for itself.

Beautiful campsite
I would definitely stay here again. Host and site were better then we could have hoped. Beautiful creek to swim and fish in. Host made a toilet for the site which was a plus.

Great covered campsite
Was a great stay. Off the road as stated in other reviews but still feels secluded and away. Beautiful fields and a covered camp area. Rained during the night but ground wasn’t a mess due to being covered! And if you’re feeling adventurous, follow the horse trail on the back of the property. A rigorous and steep hike to the top of a ridge with beautiful scenery and covered by the woods. Had a great time and will be back.

Remote Camping Gem
Everything was as advertised and Janine was extremely welcoming. This is a remote campsite with a stream crossing for 4x4/AWD access, so I knew it was going to be amazing and primative. The sky from the open field, sounds of nature, and overall experience was spectacular for my kids and I. The stunning horses around the property were an added element of excitement and beauty.
Note: If you’re not comfortable with a very primative composting outhouse this isn’t for you. Otherwise,...
For people like outselves, this remote experience next door to Shawnee State Forest, 15min from Portsmouth, and endless nearby adventures was perfect. I want to tell everyone about this spot, but at the same time keep this gem a secret. 10/10.

Lovely site on the creek
This site is just down the road from Shawnee State Forest on a large horse farm. The site is further back on the property across the creek. I have a front wheel drive SUV and made it across with no problem as the creek was very low. The site has all the basic needs and we just loved it. The little lights strung around a tree were a cute touch. The owner was great in communicating as well. We loved seeing the horses, and fishing in the creek. So many fish! Definitely recommend, and should be noted that the neighbors dog is a barky dude until late at night, but is obviously out of the campsite owners’ control. It was fine and we had a great experience.

Relaxing escape in the woods
(We actually ended up staying at the other campsite on this property, but did check this one out also and it looked nice.)
Janine was great about communicating after we booked, and checking to see if we had everything once we got there, although we didn't have any cell service to respond (we have Republic Wireless).
It was nice to have cans for trash and recycling, nice big fire pit and cooking rack. The creek was so beautiful, we waded a bit, skipped rocks and had a picnic down there. There were several nice spots to hang our hammock. There were some beautiful horses in the pasture next to the campsite.
There was a bit more traffic noise from the road than we were hoping but it did feel secluded. The campsites are not visible to each other.
Overall it was a wonderful anniversary weekend away from it all, would definitely recommend!

Camping 100 yards from the horses was really amazing. You can hear the road from the campsite but it is entirely secluded visually and feels very private.

The swimming hole was amazing!!!
We really enjoyed our time camping next to the creek. We could hear the horses in the background neighing at night and morning which was cool. Our site was very private and beautiful. Plenty of trees to put up our hammocks and beautiful stars at night to view. We really enjoyed swimming at the swimming hole. The water was refreshing and very clean. We would go back here again to stay. My only complaint was that the wood was wet and hard to light.

Lovely Creekside Stay
I really enjoyed my stay at Turkey Creek Cove. The campsite was very private, much better than staying in a campground filled with people. Janine came by to say hello and was very friendly and accommodating. A couple of her horses were near the campsite the first night, a lovely addition of company. Shawnee State Park was just a short drive away for daytime hiking. Things to note before your stay - you will be crossing a small creek with your car, make sure you have 4-wheel drive! Also the toilet is a compost toilet hole in the ground - be prepared to squat haha. As long as you're okay with a roughing it a little, I think it's probably one of the prettiest places to camp in the area.

Perfect getaway
Janine was very accommodating. The private creek is very very nice. The camping area is very well shaded. 10/10 experience. It is nice because there is a small town nearby if you need anything and there is Shawnee State Park about five minutes away if you’re staying for a longer period of time. A lot to explore!

Great Getaway!
My boyfriend and I had a great stay here! The site was very private and had its own little swimming hole by it. Janine was super friendly and rode us across on her tractor! That in and of itself was an experience. Janine was so helpful and gave us a lot of great info about the area (Buckeye Dairy Bar cannot be missed). Great secluded get away near a beautiful state park. Hope to stay there again!!

This site is great! My friends and I had an awesome time camping here! Janine is very welcoming and helpful! She was very flexible when we had to change the people coming last minute and wanted us to feel welcome there.
The only downside to the camping site was the small creek you have to walk through to get there. It was hard to carry our stuff across when we first got there and when we were leaving. Great site if you have a Jeep or a car that could get across!

Private site on a beautiful creek
Janine met us at the gate and welcomed us in with some firewood and a smile. The river was gorgeous and the whole family loved swimming and splashing the weekend away. The site couldn’t have been more private and we loved the sounds of the creek from our tents. And who could forget the horses!? What a treat to be able to pet and feed them each day. We really enjoyed our visit and will definitely be back!
