Cedar Bungalow on Peaceful Farm
I absolutely loved my stay in this sweet little cabin, and thoroughly enjoyed my time exploring the surrounding land. It was very cozy and felt very secluded, just the serene getaway I was hoping for!

Lovely stay, will be back again! The cabin was cozy on the rainy days and trails were fun to walk when the weather faired. Host is super communicative and really cares about the place. Can’t wait to try the pond with a warmer visit!

I love this place so much. Remote but not too remote. Everything you need for glamping. Comfy bed. Beautiful trails. Couldn’t get the outdoor shower to heat but someone did come to make it right. Appreciated that!

The cabin was super cute and very well stocked with anything you may need so all you need to bring is clothing and food. I do wish there was a screen door on the sliding doors so that you can enjoy fresh air in the cabin. I absolutely lived the screened porch. Will definitely be back for a longer visit.

Absolutely perfect place to stay! Peaceful and comfortable. We had some much needed rest after a long day of biking. Easy to access from the Katy Trail! Will definitely return :)

I really enjoyed my time on the farm. Some things to know: The outdoor shower has hot water. You can also get Wi-Fi. The port a potty was 5 star. No smelly! The pond does not have a Sandy beach and there was not a clearing through the brush to even get to the water- maybe in the height of summer this is different. The cabin was cozy, bed comfy. I did wish for a screen door and would have been thankful for air to be turned on before my arrival- the cabin temp fluctuates in both directions with outdoor temp rapidly. I enjoyed the grounds. Beautiful. Some great wide trails to hike. Hartsburg, and the Katey Trail are literally a miles down a gravel road. Would totally be doable to ride off the trail and stay the night! Visitors in the Farm House were definitely noted, they are pretty close and if out on their patio you will def hear their entire conversation, lucky for me they only did that on night one. (It was highlighted for me bc I was traveling solo, as a woman, and they came in loud and late and didn’t maintain their suggested boundaries. Night two was not the same.)
Communication from host was really great. I would return or tell others about the opportunity to enjoy this sweet little spot.

My husband and I loved our stay. We will come back and stay longer next time. It is a very special, lovely little spot to spend some time in nature. The cabin was even more comfortable than I had expected.

I had a great time at Cedar Bungalow! I visited during the weekend of 4th of July and I was really impressed with how clean and well maintained the property was. I am from mid-Missouri so I am well aware of how many violent windstorms and brutally hot days the caretakers have worked through. The cabin itself is a sheet metal building with an interior covered entirely with cedar panels (which both smell great and make it easy to catch intruding bugs). The mowed parts of the property include a couple of short trails and a field for yard games about the size of a baseball diamond.
The electric power was completely reliable. The yard has automatic night lights that make it possible to go from the cabin to the bathroom or from the fire pit to the wood pile without a flashlight. Everything I put in the fridge was chilled by morning. Although it is described as off-the-grid, the property is not extremely remote. You will hear occasional vehicles on the road and heavy farming equipment. I was still happy with the amount of naturalized prairie landscape. The views were beautiful, and I saw wild animals and prairie flowers every day. I would much rather have naturalized farmland turned into campsites like this than to see cabins installed in remote wilderness!
A word of caution- ticks this season are extremely bad all over mid-Missouri and this place is no exception! Remove your shoes and check yourself, pets, and gear ticks after every trip outside!

overall it was good, it is small and has an ac unit but still was burning up. there was a lot of ticks and not being from around the area finding anything was pretty difficult, it said there was a swimming lake but we couldn’t find it and the map was scratched out so that was confusing, but i would recommend this place. just not what we were expecting.

We loved this cozy, quiet location! From the moment we arrived, it exceeded all our expectations. It was fun to experience an outdoor shower for the first time. The Porta potty was cute and well taken care of and made us laugh! 5 star review. We absolutely loved the smell of the cedar that covered the walls. I learned how fun and easy it can be to cook on a gas grill. The coffee in the French Press felt like a gourmet cup. We explored the Katy Trail on bike for 56 miles. We ate some great food at The Burg in the historic town located a mile and half from our front door. We hope to return in the fall and sit around the campfire and enjoy the gorgeous sky. Right outside our lodging was the most beautiful, giant tree. Being teachers and having a city built right next to our “suburb” has us looking for a way to get away to rest and pray. We are so thankful to have this place to stay and play. Our hostess is so generous and did a great job communicating all the details we needed to make our stay easy.

We had a great time at the moonrise cabin. Perfect anniversary weekend for my wife and I. The property is beautiful. We did some fishing and bird watching. We will definitely be back again.

I stayed here while working construction in a nearby city. Wow is all I can say . Such and amazing place . If you are an outdoors kind of person than this place is for you . The cabin was so cozy and comfortable. I found it completely ready for me all I needed was food and clothes everything else was provided ( coffee.. french press, plates,towels, bedding) the works. it was so clean. I myself don't mind the outside kitchen potty and shower . I spent my evenings fishing in the pond witch is full of bass., and listening to the wild life (turkeys and owls.). I would gladly stay here again and recommend it to others!!!
Ps it also buts up to 700+ acres of conservation land. Super peaceful!!!!

The farm was a beautiful place. The bungalow was comfortable though be aware in winter there is no shower or way to clean up and cooking is challenging.

We had a decent time. The cabin's A/C runs off an external generator, which we couldn't get to start. I even downloaded the manual for it off the internet to figure it out and still no luck. The outhouse was full of spiderwebs, there was half a roll of TP and the bucket of sawdust was empty. All interactions with the host, she was polite and respectful. Ended up leaving early because it was extremely uncomfortable in the cabin at night due to the heat that had built up in the room during the day, and none of the windows really opened so we couldn't air it out. The kitchen was lovely, the furniture was comfy, and the view of the sky at night can not be beat.

Such a great place to relax and recharge! The cabin is just as described and the surrounding property is beautiful. LOVED the new shower house! It is very well done and a hot shower while outside, but very private, was the perfect touch! We will definitely stay again, and can’t wait to check out the Moonrise cabin, as well! Thanks for sharing this beautiful property with others!

We loved this space!! Brought our husky for a birthday weekend trip, and had the best time. Soooo many fireflies, butterflies and birds — and LOTS of ticks (seriously, buy some heavy duty repellant if you plan to go off-trail) — but the cabin was lovely, the kitchenette convenient, and the space was private; we DEFINITELY plan to come back again :D

I was floored at what the Cedar Bungalow had to offer. The hosts were wonderful and very inviting and the land/bungalow/views were gorgeous. We’re already thinking about booking the Moonrise cabin sometime soon as an excuse to come back. We had a great time!!

Overall we had a great trip! The moonrise cabin was super cute and the land was beautiful, with great opportunities to hike. Unfortunately, it was very cold this weekend and the heater in the cabin was not working. When we contacted the host about the broken heater there was never any response. I have done plenty of camping and don’t mind the cold, but for the amount of money spent for the cabin, I expected better.

MoonRise Off-Grid Cabin - 170 Acres
The cabin was super cute, but our trip coincided with a horrible heat wave (like 110+ heat index so not just hot). Since the cancellation fee is strict we decided to give it a shot, but the cabin just isn’t equipped for that kind of heat and our dog was struggling so we had to leave hours after arriving.
I reached out to see if there was any way to put the time we had left for future dates when it might be livable, but our message was ignored.
I also had to venmo a pet fee after I paid through Hipcamp and originally got a message saying I needed to go through some external 3rd party background check which also would have cost extra. None of that was in this was in the listing (at the time of booking) so beware of hidden fees.

The cabin and the surrounding area are beautiful, and we really appreciated the bug-free kitchen area. However, we had two problems that somewhat spoiled our trip. First, the hosts communication was awful. The listing says guests will be emailed check-in instructions the day of their booking, and we never received them. We messaged the host several times (with other questions as well), wanting to wait to head out on our trip until we had instructions to make sure we wouldn't be stranded. The host finally responded after several hours to our other questions, but NEVER gave us check-in instructions despite us following up. We decided to start the drive anyway so we at least had a chance of staying for the majority of our booking, and were thankfully able to get inside the cabin without instructions. However, the unnecessary stress from the lack of communication was deeply frustrating and set the tone for much of our stay.
Second, be aware that there are TONS of ticks on the property. I was shocked that no other reviews mentioned this. Despite our precautions, I returned from our hike on the peregrine falcon trail with over 30 seed ticks and spent HOURS removing them. We ramped up our tick precautions after that, but I still got ticks virtually every time I made the very short walk to the bathroom I found at least one new tick on my ankles. In short, if you stay here, be prepared to be itchy for a week after.
