Narrative about Selby Farm:
Selbys have lived on this farm since 1990. Doug and Brenda are retired from teaching at nearby public schools. Our Farm is now dedicated to boarding retired horses for their owners.
We practice rotational grazing for the health of the horses and the health of our pastures. The horses live in a herd as they would in the wild. Basically, they are hanging out with their friends! They also get regular care and feed and so are VERY happy. You will see and probably interact with the horses if you wish. They are guaranteed to come closer if you have treats like carrots and apples slices.
Our quiet county road used to be the main road along the river. A hundred years ago it was called "Shanty Road". The shacks that were along it housed workers that harvested food from farms in the river bottom. The only evidence of those shacks now is perrenial flowers growing in unusual places. The area is inhabited by professionals working in nearby towns and cities. In fact there are only five homes along our 1.5 mile section of Copps Chapel Road.
The Missouri River is on the far side of the bottoms now, but has been very close historically. There is also a large spring flowing from a cave nearby. These river hills are composed of soils blown in from the end of the last ice age. Being near the river, erosion has cut down the surrounding area making the scenic topography associated with Missouri River valleys and river hills.

This land has been asking to be shared. First it was swings and little things for the grandchildren and their friends. Then the Cabin by the pond began to welcome visitors. Soon the steep slope anchored a Yurt with a wrap-around deck that puts you up in the trees. Our gathering spot by the creek became a camp site. Recently the grandkids' Bunk House found its way in. Our Retreat is 10 acres, narrow, but 1/4 mile deep, stretching down a steep wooded slope to a creek - and up the other side to the top of a bluff. What started as a simple love of backyard chickens has now become a dream farm for Tracey Durant and her husband Theodore. Nestled in the valley between two forest covered hillsides, and running adjacent to Clearwater Creek on the east and the Lake on the south, D'Ranch could not have been a more perfect location for the Durant's to plant their roots and get their feet wet.
While they continue their love of backyard chickens with their small egg and hatchery operation, they have expanded their interests to an array of friendly farm animals including horses, milk cows, pigs, sheep, ducks, geese, and an occasional turkey or two. Guests are welcome to explore the farm, join in the daily milking, and participate as much as they like in the farm chores. There are excellent photo ops so come prepared, and don't forget to share those great pics!

We have two private sites, a primitive campsite directly on the Lake of the Ozarks, and a RV spot with full hook-ups (water, 50 amp AC, and sewer). The two sites are separated from each other, but both have access to the lake, including kayaks, a canoe, a paddleboat, excellent fishing, a boat-ramp, floating dock and a one-mile perimeter nature/hiking trail.
*** NOTE *** From January until early May, the lake level is dropped about five (5) feet, so boating and fishing access range from difficult to impossible (though, arrowhead hunting is a fun activity you might enjoy during the low water months!).
Primative Campsite - A private 1.5 acre campsite with a firepit (and plenty of wood to burn in it) and direct access to the Lake of the Ozarks. Amenities and features of the campsite include: a private camp toilet with a door and a concrete pad, picnic table on a gravel pad with an umbrella, a fully equipped cornhole game, fishing pole holders, a garbage can, three (3) level wood tent platforms, and even a big swing set!
RV site - the RV site also has a picnic table with umbrella, a garbage can and a fully equipped cornhole game. Nearby, the RV site also has access to a very nice private pit toilet, a gazebo with lights and an electrical outlet, and a firepit stocked with firewood.

It's a cozy little spot in the cove. I liked that we could launch our kayaks right from our campsite. The only drawback I found that I didn't know ahead of time was that the ground was all gravel which was hard on one of our dogs' paws. Next time they will be wearing booties.

Out of the way and peaceful with nothing but some wildlife (insects and birds) around and a few locals passing down the road. The full bathroom with AC was a life saver during my 4 days of mid 90s heat and humidity there. Night time star gazing was spectacular and the cove was just down the road. I did some swimming there (bring water shoes) but wished I had brought my pole as the fish were jumping right where the creek meets the cove (beautiful). The stairway to heaven was interesting but felt more like hell on the day I hiked it (95 degrees out) haha. Overall, this place was just what I needed for my first visit to the area on my property search. Feels like you are in the middle of nowhere but you are only 5-10 minutes to everything. My boyfriend and I greatly enjoyed tent camping on Tracey's land! The views were beautiful, and the environment struck a wonderful balance between lively farm life and peaceful surroundings. Tracey and her husband were thoughtful, caring hosts; they gave us plenty of privacy while also offering to show us around the farm and property, which we happily took them up on. We loved spending time with the farm animals and sharing the experience with them. We were grateful for access to the lake, where we fished, kayaked, and swam. This place is a charming, one-of-a-kind find that I highly recommend experiencing for yourself. We'll definitely be back!

We had a great stay at Spring Lake Ranch in one of the primitive campsites on the peninsula. The campground has a nostalgic, old-school charm that made for a relaxing weekend. The sites were spacious and spread out enough to feel private, and it was a peaceful place to unwind.
The lake was nice to have nearby, and we enjoyed seeing the goats wandering around the property adjacent to us. The staff was friendly, and everything we needed was easy to find. If you’re looking for a quiet camping trip with a retro atmosphere rather than a luxury campground, this is a great option.
The owners were friendly and laid-back while also being accommodating to things we needed. It was nice to have the general store on site for basic needs like firewood, ice, and small food items. We’ll definitely consider coming back for another camping weekend.

We loved our 3 night stay at 38 Special! The grounds were pristine! The facilities featured 6 clean, individual shower/bathrooms with laundry machines in the building as well. The outdoor grilling area was spot on and was right next to the gorgeous infinity pool that overlooked the lake. Swim beach was soft sand and had a great platform to jump off of. You could also rent boat slips at a very reasonable price! Sarah was an excellent host and we will be back again!

We had our Sprinter so stayed in the RV spot. Really one of the nicest Hipcamps we have stayed in. The property is beautiful, Amanda the host is very friendly and willing to chat. The pond is full of bass if fishing is your thing. You really feel a million miles away from things but you are only 10 minutes off of route 70. A great stay overall.

Susan went above and beyond for us this weekend! There was some flooding from the Meremac river and it was a rainy weekend. Instead of us having to cancel or camp in the mud, she allowed us to stay in the Sir Quincy yurt! This totally saved the weekend and we had a good time. The animals were awesome, baby piglets and kittens were definitely the highlight.
