We are a family-run farm working to return the land we steward back to healthy balance. The barn was built in 1898 and the house in 1899 by 2 Olmstead brothers. The property has had orchard for much of it's homestead history, growing peaches, cherries and apples. There was cattle on the property at some point as well. We bought the farmhouse and 40 acres in 2017, from the 5th generation of Olmsteads to have lived here. The house had been left empty and in extreme disrepair. The property had been leased for the previous 12 years by a local apple producer.
We have spent our first few years years rehabbing and renovating the farmhouse, intent to bring it back to as much of it's original beauty as possible, with some modern updates, as there was originally no electricity or indoor plumbing. We have largely let the land have time to heal and renew. We brought with us our goats, who cleared much overgrowth around the big barn and cottage. Our goal is sustainability through non-chemical, organic practices, that build and enhance biodiversity of ecosystems. We have had goats and chickens for 9 years. They are protected by our Livestock Guardians; Finntan & Eva.
We have added ducks and plan to add sheep in the Spring of 2021, as well as cattle soon after. There are many things happening at Hibernian Farm, including our second year of organically grown apple sales & U-Pick and a farm market store in 2022. Keep an eye out and follow our Hibernian Farm Facebook page.
