We are renting this land from a gentleman who adores the land. It's about 30 acres in total, and has been in his family for several generations. It is beautiful and unique in the way that there's a pond/bird sanctuary, butts up again the North Country Trail, and is directly located across the highway from a pristine, public sand beach.

Viking Cabin at Dragonfly Dunes
I enjoyed my stay and Jamie was a great host. She started a fire in the wood stove before my arrival so I walked into a nice, warm cabin. I also had a question about the post-blizzard accessibility of a nearby park. Jamie was gracious enough to look it up for me (I hardly had any service through T-Mobile) and she even recommended some places for me to visit. The wood stove did a good job of keeping things cozy. But I found out that you can't really cook on the stove because, in order to get it hot enough to cook on, you'll end up with an overheated sauna of a cabin. So I'm glad I brought my camp stove. On a day that I didn't feel like cooking, I drove out to Marquette for a hike and ordered a pizza from Vango's afterwards. In the winter, there's access to a bathroom and shower at the lodge. It was sooo nice to take a shower after a sweaty hike at Presque Isle Park.

School Bus Livin' by Lake Superior!
This was the most unique stay! The bus was so thoughtfully planned out. The property was beautiful-right next to a river with kayaks, fire pit, hammock, and a beach across the street with gorgeous views. It was situated between munising and Marquette-great location if you want to visit both.

School Bus Livin' by Lake Superior!
LOVE the bus!
The bus is AMAZING! Clean and comfortable, definitely glamping not camping. It's amazing how roomy and comfortable a standard school bus can become. And the location is great - not far from Marquette for restaurants and events and groceries. And an easy walk across the street to Lake Superior for some truly spectacular sunsets and stargazing. They were just digging the field for the septic tank for a new bathhouse when we left which will make it even better - for both those glamping in the bus and any others camping on the property. We would happily stay there again (and likely will).

Viking Cabin at Dragonfly Dunes
We loved the cabin and the all the little intricacies that where put in to the experience. However, the cabin is IN the RV campground and not in the woods like we thought from from the description. We had a tent campers right up next to the cabin. Very little privacy and space. We did think from from the description that we would be out in the woods, not inside the actual campground.

Wood-Heated Tipi for Stars & Aurora
Dark sky beauty
I am not in a great position to review Jaimie's land, unfortunately. Due to me getting us stuck in the snow for 6 hrs, we did not arrive until way after dark. Speaking of the dark, we were lucky to have a clear night and so we were able to see some beautiful starry skies, if only briefly, as the temperature was below zero. The wood stove is very small and would be hard to keep going throughout the night to stay warm, so if you plan on visiting in the winter, make sure you are prepared. We brought our Mister heater just in case and I am so grateful that we did. The bed and bedding were both comfy. The basement kitchen and sitting area are welcoming, flush toilet bonus. Unfortunately, just before our trip, my husband experienced a herniated disk and pinched nerve which made the bending necessary to enter the tipi/yurt extremely painful. We left the next morning. What we were able to see in the morning, made us think it would be a good place to come back to for ourselves or with our granddaughter. Jamie was very helpful with the info she has put together about the region. She was kind and understanding from the time we notified her that we were stuck, to the time we needed to cut our trip short.

Neurotic Discriminatory Behavior
We were giving her more than enough grace for falling vastly short of her promises and her listings descriptions . And she kicked us one night in she came over to us after having let my service animal outside. And upon seeing me. (And perhaps my hat is what sent her over the edge which may be racial hostility and aggression, my beanie says “we are on indigenous land” and she has many appropriative native style items in basement of the lodge) interacting with us within seconds she was hollering up a storm about how we needed to leave right now no service animals it was the last straw. She loaded up the firewood we chopped and shuffled it to other guests. Complained having 2 other jobs. went on about how she should have canceled the stay bc we took time to message her back via Hipcamp after already making confirming booking viewing downloading and printing the manual. It appeared as though someone tore her out at work and she was looking to lash out over anything. She was incredibly unprofessional and has this listing cross posted with Airbnb. We think it may have gotten booked for that same evening on the other site where it costs more and she kicked us out to make space. This is a common Airbnb scam. She had many small costs to nickel and dime visitors upon arrival. And in her messages and directions and manual there is conflicting information over where to park and my friend pulling in parked on the wrong side of the red chairs she lost it, wouldn’t listen to the apology.

Viking Cabin at Dragonfly Dunes
Review of the good, bad, and ugly.
Review of the good, bad, and ugly. Good: The owner, Jamie, was amazing to work with. She sent all sorts of information before we showed up and lots of good suggestions on things to do. The bed was really comfortable and the cabin was comfortable the whole time without AC and 85degree days. It is really easy to get to and not far from the beach (5 minute walk). The porch is perfect for the morning cup of coffee or a rainy night. Marquette is close and gas stations are a few miles down the road. It’s a trek to Munising but not bad if you plan to spend the whole day there. Bad: The sink wasn’t working. I am unsure if this was a normal thing or if it never works. We were not told this in advance. The “cooler sized refrigerator” is actually a cooler.. with a fan on the lid. Don’t think camper size or hotel sized refrigerator... no, it’s a cooler that you can’t put ice in and barely stays cold and drips condensation into the bottom. And the “small convection oven” is a toaster oven. Garbage bags, paper towels, paper plates, disposable silverware, or cups were not provided. I understand that using the “rustic” items may be part of the appeal for some, but its just not practical. I don’t expect it to be provided (well, maybe garbage bags) but a heads up would be good. We bought (and left) a metal spatula and tongs because all that was provided was wooden items that wouldn’t have worked too well on the charcoal grill—so hopefully someone else can get some use out of them. Ugly: extension cord plugged into power strip, plugged into extension cord, plugged into another cord is a major fire hazard- especially given one of the prongs on the lights was broken. You have to find interesting ways to plug in the coffee pot, toaster oven, or electric cooktop. The cabin is IN a campground—not just near or across the street. The campground bathrooms were definitely ugly, but they were cleaner than some campground bathrooms I’ve been to and most of the issues were because of the iron rich water (think mouth full of pennies when starting the shower and inhaling steam). The campground trash was overflowing. People speed pretty badly through the campground, as well. Anything to do with the campground is beyond the cabin owner’s reach but you should be aware because you do still have to deal with it unless you’d like to walk to the other cabin or use the bucket in the woods. All in all—I think some things need to be updated in the description because while I don’t feel like I was outright lied to, I feel I was misled a bit to make everything sound better. You’re not on Lake Superior, you’re across the street (a 65mph two lane highway), there is a steep trek to the beach, and you’re definitely IN a campground. I probably would stay there again but would caution anyone who is not used to camping to prepare yourself. This is not like getting a hotel room or Airbnb. There is a roof, a bed, electricity, and its clean, but that’s where the luxury ends. I am a pretty go with the flow kind of person but I now a lot of people would have not been happy about a lot of these things, so I just want to give fair warning. A++++ for the owner communication though!

School Bus Livin' by Lake Superior!
We spent two nights on the bus and loved it! We were given permission to bring our two young kiddos (2 and 5), and it was a little tight for all of us, but we knew that going into it and wasn't a problem. The kitchenette is pretty well stocked for as small as it is, the bathroom was a step up from the camping we had been doing. It was definitely a memorable experience, and would love to come back again without the kids sometime (although they would not be happy to know we went without them! Lol).

Viking Cabin at Dragonfly Dunes
Beautiful Winter Glamping!
We had a great time exploring the trails of the UP and seeing tons of winter wildlife. Our host was very quick to answer questions and helpful with our stay. The cabin was very warm and cozy and with the simple cookware and dishes we didn't have to pack any extra camping equipment. There are also plenty of blankets and pillows too. Wood is provided for the stove, a space heater just in case, and more. Bring your own warm clothes, cleats for icy trails, and food. You'll be set for a quiet snuggle. In the winter it was very quite and the campground the cabin was located next to was closed. No one else around. A few minutes to walk to the bathroom (with bath, shower, and sauna) and a few minute walk to Lake Superior. All-wheel drive is recommended. It was tricky to switch cars, but easier than trying to drive after a surprise 3" snowfall. Also, BRING SNOW CLEAT / CRAMPONS FOR YOUR SHOES!!! They are not expensive and make the hikes much more safe and enjoyable. Lastly, we saw 3 different Bald Eagles on our trip in various different locations. Highly recommended.

Heated and Cozy Tipi
The place was remote and relaxing! Not for from a beautiful roadside park along Lake Superior and only 15 mins from downtown Marquette. 6 mins from a local grocery store. I really enjoyed going all around hiking. PLENTY of great trails to choose from up there! Looking for a relaxing trip soon, its a great, safe and most importantly in 2020, really clean option in nature. Thanks Jamie for your hospitality! Plan to come back again someday.

Viking Cabin at Dragonfly Dunes
We highly recommend Dragonfly Dunes. We stayed there for our wedding anniversary, and had as much privacy as we expected. There are few other campers here and there, since it’s in a campgrounds, but you still have plenty of space and privacy. Jamie is super friendly and helpful, and the cabin is very unique. We were comfortable for our 3 nights there and have no complaints whatsoever.

School Bus Livin' by Lake Superior!
My partner and I had an amazing time at Dragonfly Dunes. We had just completed 50 mile, 3-day hike in the Pictured Rocks so Jamie's cute bus was the perfect respite for us. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants a clean, well kept, private, and relaxing stay out of the ordinary. Our favorite parts were the fire ring with unlimited wood, the outdoor seating, pond views, and the wood interior of the bus. Do note that you have to do a little work when it comes to showering and using the bathroom but I think it is well worth the trouble.

Cute and cozy
My family and I had a wonderful time staying in the bus! It was comfortable and cozy. I was a little nervous about it being close to the highway noise but we could barely hear it! The kids loved the dunes and the paddle boat was fun as well. Would recommend 👍🏻

Viking Cabin at Dragonfly Dunes
Pros and Cons
I will start with the pros! First of all the host, Jamie, could not have been nicer or more accommodating. She did not bother me, she just checked in to make sure I had what I needed and was aware of where things were. She is definitely an A+ host! The cabin was spotless and really, there were so many little details to give it its Viking Cabin look. You can tell there was a good amount of effort and care. Directions were so thoughtful and suggestions for things to do were thoughtful as well. The front porch was really sweet and I would have made more use of it if I had had more privacy. Pros: great host, cute cabin, very clean, great location in regard to nearness of Presque Isle and Pictured Rocks as well as grocery and gas or whatever you might need. Cons: This may not be a deal breaker to some but for me, it's HUGE. The description definitely points out iron in the water but I had NO IDEA to what extent. So in case you don't either....DO NOT WASH YOUR HAIR. I have (had) highlights in my hair, an expensive thing to have done. They are ruined. I will end up spending a couple hundred dollars trying to undo my now ORANGE hair. I have tried every home remedy and beauty store shampoo. I will have to have my hairdresser correct. I only washed my hair twice!!! The "private beach" area across the highway is actually a public roadside pullover park. Which is not that big of a deal but it was fairly busy. As the description states there are no stairs to beach. It is a fairly steep declince and since I have an issue with my achilles tendon I was not willing to risk it. There is also a fence you have to climb over. Privacy and seclusion: not much of it. My intention for going was to connect with nature and have a silent retreat. Unfortunately you really are smack dab in the middle of an RV camp. On two of the nights I was there I had tent campers fifteen steps from the door of the cabin. So I would have used the front porch more often.....but it was not quite private. Do not make the same mistake I did by grocery shopping before I went to the cabin. The cooler sized "refrigerator" is truly just a small cooler and with a cooling unit in the lid. It did not work after I plugged it in. I didn't complain because I really just wanted ease and solitude so I went back to grocery and purchased a cooler. Also, the toaster oven is very small. It is mentioned as being so in description, I believe, but I didn't realize they could be so little. So my feedback would be, don't try to actually cook when staying there unless you are a good griller and don't need to keep much cold. As far as temperature inside the cabin....even on hot days it feels really nice inside. There are windows and the ceiling fan does a great job. There is also a little window unit if it gets crazy hot. The decor is a little off putting in the summer heat. Lots of fur and dark. It looks cool but it's not a good feel for summer months. Also, in the middle of this pandemic, I was a little concerned about how so much fur was washed as well as the upholstered throw pillows on the bed. I am not trying to be nit picky, but these are things that affected my stay. I think it would be a place that I would consider during the colder months when there are no campers and when I might not be desperate to shower. Again, Jamie is a wonderful host and I am sure she would go out of her way to accommodate requests if you made them. But there's no way around the fact that you are not in a private area, the iron in the water is a big deal, there is no refrigeration, and you have to climb over a fence and slide down a "dune" to get to the beach that is across a highway.

Cozy Cabin with Amenities
We stayed in the Viking Cabin over Memorial Day weekend. It wasn't crowded and most of the time we felt like we had the entire campground to ourselves. We really appreciated how close the showers (5 private stalls) and flush toilets were in proximity to the cabin. Jamie was very accommodating. We were spoiled, upon receiving a text message she sent someone over to deliver more fire wood within minutes. We rearranged the first floor furniture to fit a twin size blow up mattress. There is a beach across the street. We regret not having a beachside fire. We had planned to do it on the last day but the temperature dropped too low.
