Bells Acres is a large property with abundant history! Originally homesteaded by a Finnish family in the 1800s, we are only the 4th family to own this property. Doc Bell operated his veterinarian practice from this farm starting in 1915, giving his name to the creek running through the property and the lake it feeds. A family from Finland purchased the property from the Bell family in the 1960s and lived on the homestead until 2020 when we purchased it. We hope to continue the tradition of generational homesteading, while sharing this piece of God’s country with you!
Our property features a vast variety of terrain on over 40 acres for our campers to explore on and off trail. Wildlife enthusiasts can enjoy the chance to see deer, bear, moose, beavers, coyotes, waterfowl, upland birds, and more! You name it, it is here! We adored our stay at Black River Trails Campground! Mike went above and truly beyond to make sure we had a great spot for our car camping set up. Not only was he super responsive and communicative prior to our stay, he was SO helpful during our stay, even taking us up river and offering kayak rentals for one of our favorite kayaking adventures to date. The river front camp spots, clean accessible toilets and the access to trails and adventures right near by made this such a great spot. We are so grateful for Mike for helping us make this getaway happen!

We had an amazing stay at Nellie's Hip Camp with our two kids and two dogs! The property is beautiful with plenty of room to spread out and take in the stunning views. The showers were fantastic—so nice that we skipped using the one in our van and happily walked to the Bin instead.
The owners were incredibly friendly and responsive, making our stay even more enjoyable. Our kids loved the playground, which was such a cool feature built with natural materials. The location is ideal—very close to a camp store and a perfect jumping-off point for exploring Iron Fish, the dunes, and more of Northwest Lower Michigan.
We couldn’t have asked for a better experience and will definitely be back!

This was my first time using this app, and the campground said it was theirs, too. Upon arriving to Black River Trails Campground I was greeted by friendly people and found out that unfortunately my site had been double booked, and the campground was experiencing a power outage!! The owners put us in a spot that was kind of make-shift, which was fine for us because we had plans in town seeing family that weekend so I knew we wouldn’t be there for the “full camping experience”. The owners brought us over a generator and tended to it, to make sure we could keep on like normal and have our fridge up and running to keep our groceries all cold. The only thing I would have changed about it is, I wish we had a fire pit and a picnic table- we didn’t get to have a fire until Saturday night because our family came to stay at a cabin on the second night, they had a fire pit, however, it was an adorable little cabin, and everything you need if you don’t want to bring a tent. There was quite a bit of poison ivy and sumac around which was only hard to keep my toddler out of, but older kids would be fine. The bathrooms were great and the showers were a bit confusing at first (hot and cold were reversed) but that’s an easy fix once you realize it! Nice and spacious for changing after showering too. The fishing was great and everyone joined in! I think that this situation can be a learning experience- and we would still definitely camp here again.

When we first arrived the hookup for the electricity was all the way on the other side of the camper, we called the front desk and they graciously let us borrow an extension cord. The site itself is pretty tight, our 22ft camper fit perfectly, but anything bigger than that would be very tight. It’s right on the betsie river which the kids loved! They floated and played in the river all weekend. Camp bathrooms were ok, water was warm all days but one. We brought bikes but the paths were too gravely to ride on. The campground is very quaint so walking anywhere isn’t bad at all. Used the laundry and that was a nice accommodation. Overall we were very pleased with our stay. It’s not your big chain campground and that’s exactly what we were looking for. Would definitely recommend.

This was an excellent camp for us. Stuck in a traffic jam & in need of a safe place to rest. We got so much more than that! The hosts checked in on us in gridlock & greeted us with a smile when we wearily arrived. The facilities were clean and easily accessible. The critters made us smile

Extra large sites, great location, and it is easy to see the owner takes pride in their business. Although we didn't use the silo bathroom/bath house it is a big focal point of the gorgeous property. Thank you for creating this amazing space!

We live in the lower part of west Michigan and wanted to do some sxs trail riding in the UP. Never having explored this part of our state, we picked this campground due to the positive reviews. Camp owner's communication was great and we learned there were trails right across the driveway from the camp before we even arrived. Upon arriving and getting settled in we were met with the bets camp host and later met the owner's of the campground. They, as locals, gave us great information on trails to ride. Looking forward to another visit and definitely recommend this quiet, clean and friendly campground.

We camp with a small Rpod. Lot 37 was perfect!! We were right on the rivers edge and enjoyed watching the fish jump, turtles that came to visit and listening to the birds each morning.
We came in contact with several staff members and all were very kind and told us to call if we needed anything. We will definitely be back!

We enjoyed our stay over the 4th of July weekend. Very clean and accommodating, nice roomy rv lots with hook ups. The only thing that stood out was some kind of shelving in the showers to put your nesseciates and not have to put them on the floor while you were showering. Would highly recommend and we will be returning.

It was very quiet. Rained all day, but we were able to enjoy all of the green forest and the many ferns. Kim and her husband were very helpful. We did get lost getting there. Our GPS took us way past the campgrounds.

Where to go
Upper Peninsula
The Upper Peninsula is Michigan’s wild toupée, with swathes of old-growth forests, sandy beaches, and inland lakes stretching along the southern shore of Lake Superior. Northern Lower Peninsula
Bordered by Lake Michigan to the West and Lake Huron to the east, the northern Lower Peninsula has the highest concentration of Michigan state parks. Miles of mountain biking, horseback riding, and hiking trails await in the Huron National Forest, where you can choose from modern campgrounds or backcountry camping. Along the coast, Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is a must-see, Wilderness State Park is a dark sky reserve, and Ludington State Park Beach is a family favorite.
Southwest Michigan
Grand Rapids is the gateway to Michigan’s southwest, where the shore of Lake Michigan provides plenty of options for a summer camping trip. Lakefront cities such as South Haven, Benton Harbor, and Holland have sandy beaches, historic lighthouses, and seafront campgrounds. Forget tent camping in the wilderness—RV sites come equipped with full hookups, playgrounds, and watercraft rentals.
Southeast Michigan
Michigan's "Thumb" juts out along the west shore of Lake Huron, where Sleeper State Park and Port Crescent State Park are the big draws for campers. Below this, the west coast is ideal for a road trip, peppered with shipwreck dive sites, secluded beaches, and golf courses. South of Detroit and Lake St. Clair, Sterling State Park is the only state park on the shore of Lake Erie, with a mix of RV and tent sites by the beach.
