Penobscot Log Cabin
I slipped up and thought I booked this cabin in Rockwood, and when I told Amy, she happily accommodated our reservation at her camps there. My friends and I enjoyed it so much that we hope to come back some time in the winter or, at the very least, another fall. Thank you Amy for you kindness, flexibility, and overall wonderful accommodations!

Camping by the Pines & Planes
The site was great! There was firewood on site that Amy said we were free to use. We brought our own camp chairs which turned out to be unnecessary since there were already some nice chairs available. There was a port-a-john available for basic needs. All in all, my wife and I were very pleased!

Moosehead Mountain Camp, private
We loved the adorable rustic cabin, it was a nice quiet space to be away from home. The lights are a lovely touch to guide your way to the outhouse in the night and back from the fire pit.

Good location for outdoor adventure
Beautiful location --- very quiet, with lots of recreational options from short easy hikes to longer, more challenging adventures. When I had questions, Amy responded within a few minutes. For a small cabin it felt like there were plenty of choices for hanging out, including a front deck, a hammock and a firepit in the back with camp chairs. Kitchen had the essentials so I could cook meals. This is an easy place to stay.

Super nice space, host was wonderful! Such an adorable place to spend a weekend. Accessing the cabin was super easy, just wish it was a little closer to the water.

Good place to crash for a few nights near Moosehead Lake. Loved the movie collection! Cozy space, very quiet. If you are looking for a step up from a tent camping experience this is a great option.

Great camp for exploring the area!
Amy and Steve own the local Gray Ghost Camps which are cabins on the Moose River, a 10 minute walk from this cabin. This cabin is about a 1/4 mile up a dead-end dirt road, about 25 ft. from the road. You are in the woods, though a few hundred yards from other small camps. The setting is quiet and relatively private and you can easily walk down to the river, hop on a kayak or SUP at Gray Ghost and paddle about 20 minutes and be right on Moosehead lake! You can also just explore the river and paddle downriver and eventually the dwellings thin out and it's very peaceful (though water level was pretty low in Aug '20). The cabin was great for me; the basics for anyone fine with a solar shower (though you can heat the water on the electric stove), and very nice outhouse (real seat and very clean!). There is a microwave, wood stove, electric stove and oven, coffee maker, small fridge and pots and pans. You are provided with 10 gallons of water, but I didn't even use all of it for a 5-night stay. Bed was comfy and there is a nice glider and couch. If you are using the upstairs twin beds, beware of the very heavy hinged wooden staircase that must be lowered from the wall using a simple pulley. Not hard, but heavy. The cabin was very clean and in good shape. There is an old camp journal on the shelf, take a peak for fun.... This was a great base for me but keep in mind that Rockwood is a small community. You'll need to hop in the car to get to the closest basic convenience store and groceries are 20 miles (25 minute drive) in Greenville. Hiking trails are about 20 minutes away, definitely check out Big and Little Moose hikes! The ferry to Mt. Kineo is about 10 minutes away, this is must-do, hike to the top for the views and then around the perimeter, not-to-be missed! I was very happy to stay here. If you are a family looking to lounge about, you might want a place closer to the water with a little more space (or closer to Greenville) but this is ideal for anyone who plans to be out and about exploring during the day. Amy was friendly and available and a big thanks to Monica who gets an enthusiastic two thumbs up for her expert local knowledge of all the places to explore. Definitely talk to them for ideas. I was a happy hipcamper and hope to be back.
