The location has amazing views. It’s very exposed so if it’s windy that is important to be prepared for. Parts of the driveway are just a little rough, but you don’t need 4 wheel. Lots of barking dogs.

We had such a memorable stay with our dog. The campsite was peaceful, spacious, and surrounded by mountain views that only got better with time. Sundown glowing over the ridge, stargazing under a clear sky, and sunrise waking us up gently. Everything we needed was provided, the directions were spot-on, and Matthew was fantastic fast to respond, and communicative, which made the whole experience seamless.

We had a wonderful experience and loved the area. Matthew was a great host and we LOVED meeting the animals, especially crazy miss Bonnie! You can tell Matthew cares deeply for his animals and they are all happy!
Can’t wait to go back and stay later this year so we can spend some time in nearby Idyllwild without paying for an Airbnb or hotel out there. I recommend this spot for sure!

It was really easy to find and extremely beautiful! The site was very spacious and had fun activities like corn hole and propane fire pits. On a clear night, it is absolutely astonishing for stargazing!

The campsite is kinda hard to spot even with the map. The tiniest marker would be helpful. Had expected more of a ranch vibe. Seemed like the animals were upset most of the time and dogs barking all night from cages. But views were worth the trip.

This site was absolutely stunning! The views were incredible, with plenty of space to comfortably set up our campsite. It was easy to find and navigate to, which made the experience even better.
The sunset and sunrise were breathtaking, truly something special. At night, the sky lit up with stars, and once the moon set, it got even better. Perfect for stargazing or just enjoying the quiet beauty of nature.
Highly recommend this spot. We’ll definitely be coming back!

We really enjoyed our tent camping here! Prepare for possible wind (and the dust that comes with it) but the view is stunning and the gas fireplace and camping toilet were functioning and easy to use.

I appreciate Matt with what he's doing with the property.. I wish him and his wife much success in his endeavors to create a beautiful stay.. the property has beautiful views and I actually stayed longer at the beautiful view site.. beautiful sunrises and sunsets and view of stars above and nite life at the casino down below
Those are the positives. And so future campers know there is no running water nor bathroom options (well there is 2 composting toilets in far back none at broken bones) . I'm very adaptive and made do with the morning routine.. I would highly suggest to Matt to put up an L shaped screen and a picnic table at broken bones..

It is a beautiful view from the camp site and the host was very responsive, communicative and friendly. We had a good time overall!
But it could have been amazing... If the fire pit worked. It was broken and we couldn't make it to work even though the host help us over the phone. The BBQ grill was pretty beat up and had a baby mice living in the grill with their little nest (it was cute tho), so we weren't comfortable using it. This could have been easily checked by the host prior. Also there's a lot of foxtail grasses which is fine but I feel like it was too many of them overgrown under the picnic table, so we weren't as comfortable to eat at the picnic table. I think these could've been easily cleaned up prior to the guests arrival. Just be aware that the wind is pretty strong at night when we stayed but again great view.
We hope these issues noted above resolve in future and would love to come back again!

Matthew was a great host who was very responsive and kind.
We were a group of 7 with a dog. We were able to fit three 6-person tents and 1 car. There was ample overflow parking available.
We also were able to see their farm and enjoy fresh eggs.
The area gets pretty windy, so plan accordingly.

The location is perfect, nice mountains, beautifull road leading the the property. Last 5 minutes gravel road and parking at the camping spot was doable also with a 20 ft Van.
Loved the remote feeling of the place, the views, the night stars ... definitely the real camping feeling, which you would not get out of a bigger camps.

Great view of the pass, loved it. The caboose is awesome BTW. A storm hit right when I arrived and had to pack up my camping gear, but inspite of that I thought it was amazing and I'd love to stay again maybe in the summer when the weather is better.

A lot of the time, my Hipcamp reservations are done the day before (or the morning of check in) because of my changing work schedule. Matthew/Ashley has accommodated this aspect with great response and communication. This contributes a lot to experiencing great stay at Wandering Caboose Ranch.

I LOVED this location.
The scenery is amazing at all times. The night is wonderful with stars in above and city lights below. The sunset and sunrise are incredible and breathtaking. The day time is so peaceful with the wind and the plants. Matthew and Ash are also super nice hosts. I will definitely be returning!

Camping on the hilltop site was a really cool experience for a night. We were on way to Joshua tree so this was a fun pit stop before going down into the desert. It had just snowed on the peaks of Galena peak and snow peak so the view was spectacular, and our trip was timed well. It did get quite windy as the site is exposed on a hill side of a valley; however, I slept in a truck so sleeping was fine but It was too windy to have a fire safely. The Goats were super friendly and fun to go find and pet. The dogs are also cute but can bark at times. Overall, it was a good experience, and I would come back to that spot if I was passing through - especially in the winter because of the snowcapped mountains across the valley.

Good overall stay at Broken Bone campsite. Staying at Wandering Caboose was really good because of Matthew and Ashley. They are great hosts. I only stayed one night at the Broken Bone site. A storm rolled in that night so I didn't do much. Fortunately, I was able to come back and stay a few more nights at the Hilltop View campsite (the site with even more views). Either way, it is hard to beat any of the views you get at the Wandering Caboose Ranch. Would definitely stay again.

The view from the hilltop was incredible. It would be tough to beat that private and quiet site with such a great overlook. But, what was more incredible was Matthew's and Ashley's customer service. They went above and beyond. Here's what happened...
My vehicle's battery was dead the morning of my check out. And to make things worse, I had to head to work. So, I left a message for Matthew to let him know that I was going to have a tow company drive on their property to give me a jump (hoping it wasn't going to take too much time for the tow company to arrive as I couldn't be late for work). And as I am on the phone with the tow company, Matthew drives up in his car with jumper cables in hand ready to help me out. After a little bit of charging, my car starts and I was good to go. I want to make sure to mention that Matthew got home at 2am and woke up to help me at 8am. If that is not the best caring customer service, I don't know what is. His property is awesome, but he and his wife are more awesome. If you want a great camp experience, book a stay at the Wandering Caboose Ranch.

I loved camping at this. Very private and the views are mind blowing. Just be weary you are on top of a mountain and at the edge. So if it gets windy it’s gonna get real windy. Definitely will be coming back!

Gorgeous hilly views of the town to the left, mountain canyons to the right, beautiful piece of land! The spot is far enough away from the main home to feel private, though you are still in view of a few neighbors on the left and right. Never bothered us, we felt like we were alone out there!
It gets quite chilly at night (writing this in January), so make sure you have a safe heat source or heated blankets!
Matt and Ash were quick to respond and helpful, would recommend staying here if you're looking for a quick weekend out of the city!
