The Mojo River Spot in the redwoods

Joelle's land is a truly wild nature gem 💎🌳, and we felt so lucky to have this entire slice of paradise to ourselves. The best part was the privacy—the whole place was ours 🙌, offering a perfect, immersive escape into nature 🌲. Joelle has thought of everything you could possibly need. We were pleasantly surprised by how well-equipped the site was; we even found a wine opener 🍷 which absolutely saved our night! While this isn't a hotel and you should come prepared to be surrounded by nature 🏕️, you'll find everything you need for a comfortable stay. A major highlight was the convenience to local gems. The Hartford Family Winery is a quick 5-minute drive 🍇🚗 away, and their wine tasting was incredible. On our last day, we had a fantastic, lazy 5-hour boat trip downriver to Guerneville ☀️😎. Joelle was an exceptionally generous and welcoming host 💖—she even handled our logistics, taking care of our drop-off after we drove our car to Guerneville. We wish Joelle all the best and hope to see her dreams of building the tree houses 🏡✨ and all her other projects come to reality! This is an absolute must-book for anyone looking for a unique, wild, and fully supported camping adventure! ⭐️

Really cool property right in the river with 2 levels for camping, with several fire pits and a covered table for cooking/eating. Lots of redwood trees in the property. It’s right on River Road so you do hear cars into the night. Overall it was a great place to camp!

Mojo’s place is great! The sites are quite big and beautiful. The river access while a little steep is right there on site, and the river is lovely. The upper site is right off the highway so you get some of that noise, but we had an amazing stay, would definitely come back

Joelle was a wonderful host who was always quick to respond from before the stay to throughout our time there. When we had a concern about another group on the property, she was proactive in addressing it. The area that we booked on the lower tier was spacious, and it's arranged such that there was only one other group on our tier at the far end near the trail down to the river. A third group was on the upper tier separately by trees, and a fourth group was situated on the island.

Superb spot! We loved being on the island! Worth the wade! Joelle was super communicative and lovely and has decorated the hideaway sites on land beautifully too. It was also fun launching our wee boat from our own beach. We’re definitely coming back!

While the mainland sites are cute and beautifully decorated, the island site is truly special! Just incredible to camp on your own island! Totally worth the wade…Joelle is a wonderfully friendly and communicative host.

My family and I stayed two nights here at this Camp. We loved every second of it. Joelle made sure that we had everything we needed, including tubes to float down the river. The grounds are beautiful. Multiple barbecues and areas for bonfires and the beach is just steps away. We will definitely be coming back.

Such a great location right on the river. The access to the river was easy with a walk across shallow water to get to the island where there was a nice beach with shade and without shade. We swam and floated all day. The camping areas are nice and have shade structures set up. We brought our own tents, but there was one available. Joelle was helpful, friendly and accessible. She taught us how to get the charcoal grill going because I hadn’t done it in 20+ years. You do hear road noises and would hear other campers if they were there, but we had the place to ourselves. We hope to come back!

This property has amazing private access to the river, and is very close to steelhead beach. With that being said, it is directly off River Road which is busy with vehicles flying on the road at all hours (earplugs help, but still expect to hear vehicles). The trail down to the river is a little steep and slippery and could use a guide rope/ steps cut into the dirt (wear good shoes!). We booked the Island site, and was the only booking so the Host Joelle kindly offered us our choice of the sites. We checked out the options. When one first walks into the property it is laid out as follows: the upper terrace is “paradise tier 1” site, then walk down to the 2nd terrace to “paradise tier 2” site, then walk down the trail to the river and cross the water (knee high on our visit on 8/20/2025) to the island where 1st there is a decent sized clearing in the middle of the greenery for a 4 person tent and then further is a large clearing for maybe a couple tents or more. We chose “tier 2” as a happy-medium because one of us is more adventurous than the other. Our 2nd night we chose “tier 1” because it was warmer in the fun trailer. One of us preferred to have camped on the island but the other was not interested in making the river crossing @ night. We enjoyed our stay, we came to spend time on the river and this was a great place to make our base camp. This property is a diamond in the rough, looking forward to returning and seeing the growth! Grateful for the stay!

Great location on the river! Above guernville and outside of town. Close to the road so there is some noise. Camp was clean and sounds like an upgrade is happening soon. Porta potty on-site. Well water nice and clean.

Joelle was amazing, made her self available whenever we needed and was able to provide major things in her camp site (i.e. tent, grill, table) to name a few. We had such a great time in the river and being outside. I would just say it’s super close to the road so you might hear some cars but if you’re having fun like us you barely hear it haha. Anyways a lovely stay, great host, fun vibes, nothing could go wrong staying here! Also If you are worried about bugs like me, there wasn’t really a big issue with them out there!

While the spot is a great location for a river float and has many beautiful sights and sounds of nature, I will caution that you may arrive to conditions different from what you booked without any prior notification. I had originally booked when it was 1 private site. However without notifying me she had subdivided the site into 4 different sites. When I contacted her she said i would have to pay for the other new spots if i wanted the privacy i had originally booked…when I tried to book the other sites she notified me that tier 1 had already been booked but that she would block off the other sites for the inconvenience (see pics). However the day before I arrived she notified me that all 4 of the sites would be full. The bottom tier sites are all right next to each other as seen in the pictures (the hammock and white tent are a separate site). Its a nice spot if you know what to expect, but given the proximity your experience can be largely determined by the other sites. One site had a large group of people who let their dogs poop in our site and left it there, while the other site had kids who played catch on our site and we unfortunately got hit by baseballs where we were sitting. While I wouldn’t have minded the company at a public campsite it was a bit of a bummer when we were promised privacy :/ The outhouse was a bit slammed with 4 big groups and the water wasn’t working our second day.

A pity the property is quite neglected, chairs broken/ weathered big time, plastic foldable table for picnic table, the only portable toilet served 12 guests. The toilet has no light inside & no window, there is a curtain on the front & a broom stick to stop the door from closing. The trail going down the river is straight down, not safe. My spouse, 70years old fell down. You share the ‘private’ cute beaches with all guests of the State park next door, with along a good 100+ kayaks going down the river. The spots are very near each other, and yes, you hear cars, cars & cars, feel vibrations from trucks & buses 24 hours ….

The access to the river is great! There is also plenty of room and having a tent already set up, with tables and a BBQ was great. The property needs a good clean up. There’s a bunch of junk that needs to be tossed. It’s also right on river road, so there is noise from cars. When you are on the beach it’s harder to hear. Joelle was very communicative and nice.

Joelle's land was the perfect relaxing getaway! We were lucky to have the place to ourselves. There were plenty of convenient touches that provided everything we needed for a comfy stay, including a nice tent (that was much roomier than the one I had brought). It was a treat to enjoy the property's river access for morning swims, followed by leisurely sunbathing on the lawn. We would definitely love to come back! Thank you, Joelle!

Joelle is a lovely host with a beautiful space. We had originally booked about 8 months in advance, when the property was one site. When there were multiple groups at the site, it felt tight and not the vibe our family trip was looking for. We did appreciate the location on the river and access to towns nearby, but it also meant we could hear the road at night. Still a great spot, but be mindful of where you’re booking.

Incredible location, and a pretty campsite. We had a great time and it worked for our group of families (adults plus kids from ages 1 - 6). The location is perfect, and a knee high ford of the river takes you straight to a nice beach, or 5 min walk along the road gets you to steelhead beach. We had a bbq and charcoal provided, plus a campfire (we brought our own firewood), and a table under a gazebo. The blackberry bush and hilltop lookout were a big hit with the kids. Joelle was very nice, but would recommend getting clarity on which parts of the site are included or not in your stay. Things to be aware of for this campsite, to help future guests: Yes, it’s on a busy road, and you do hear road noise throughout the night. For tier 2 specifically, it’s worth noting that there are 2 additional / separate mini campsites right next to you - I couldn’t see them available to book on hip camp, but there were people staying in one of them - nice folks and we made friends, though I imagine they were less than thrilled to be camping right next to some noisy kids. The other was right on top of our site, and really shouldn’t be its own separate location, but luckily it was vacant for our 2 night stay. In general, I think there are too many camps squeezed in - there’s limited parking (we made it work with some negotiation, and by boxing our party in) and only one porta potty for up to 25 people on weekends. The water outlet for our camp created a mud slick that several toddlers fell in!

Joelle is a fabulous host and in terms of a place to camp before floating the Russian river this place is amazing, you can put in directly from the site and enjoy time on the riverbank. The one “but” about this place is that it is *right* by the road, and we heard a good amount of traffic even into the night, so earplugs recommended.
