Greenbelt Park

Who knew you could camp within ten miles of the White House? At Maryland’s Greenbelt Park, there are 174 sites offering you the chance to do so! Just within the Capital Beltway outside Washington, D.C., this vast preserve has colorful dogwoods, blueberry bushes, azaleas and laurel blooms (you might even see a cherry blossom if you come at the right time). Nine miles of hiking and equestrian trails meander through the park, so bring your comfy shoes, if not your pony. The Sweetgum Picnic Area has playground equipment if you’re toting kiddos (or if you’re a grown-up who digs swingsets, we don’t judge). Just off of I-95, this is a great spot for a convenient escape from the city—although if you do go into town during your stay, hit up the NASA Visitor Center in Greenbelt for a little taste of space amid all that nature!
