1 night at The Happy Horse Farm

Initially, parking for our campervan was a little confusing. But, a call to Bethanne straightened things out. During the day there's quite a bit of nearby road noise, but that seemed to lessen by the evening. Overall, it was a very peaceful experience.

Weekend Trip to The Landing At Lake Ploenta

Natural beauty, we loved walking around the lake and the ducks are fun to watch! I did notice that the larger tree’s between the sites in some of the pictures had been replaced with new trees so there is not much privacy between the A sites and there is very little room to spend any time outside at the site. We didn’t have an issue since there was nobody next to us but if there had been I can see it would be very tight quarters. We definitely enjoyed our quiet weekend away.

Jim's campsite was absolutely beautiful! It was spotless, had thoughtful touches of a nice fire pit and picnic table. We loved being close to beaches and having a more private, peaceful place to stay.

Jim’s taken care of everything: water, electricity, firewood and even fresh wild flower arrangements on site and even inside the portapotty. Jim’s tour of oyster beach was very educational and memorable to us all. One of the highlights was also cooking oysters on an open fire. We left this farm with several dozens of farmed oysters - freshest ones. Unique and excellent experience overall - thank you, Jim!

Weekend Trip to Green Apple Alpacas

We booked two sites for three families with kids and had a wonderful experience. Touring the farm was a highlight — the children loved seeing the adorable animals, including alpacas, llamas, ducks, chickens, and goats. The host was very welcoming, allowing us to prepare food for the alpacas and llamas while explaining their unique personalities. We watched the chickens roaming in their custom trunnel and check on their eggs, fed snacks to the goats, and observed the ducks waddling around their home. There were also bunnies and quails, and we purchased some fresh chicken and quail eggs for the kids to enjoy. Our campsite was right next to the alpaca and llama enclosure, which made for a fun and engaging setting. The area was open and spacious—perfect for kids to run around—though tent campers should note that there’s limited shade and privacy. The alpacas and lamas even seemed amused watching the kids play with water balls and blasters! Nearby trails offer more to explore, and the surrounding neighborhood is very quiet. We also spotted hot air balloons in the sky, which added to the charm. Each site had a water hookup, electricity, and 1 access to a clean portable toilet near the farm. Overall, it was a memorable and enjoyable stay for everyone.

Weekend Trip to Glen Ayr - Olympic Peninsula RV

Perfect location! Close to a bunch of kid friendly hikes, Hama Hama and Hoodsport. The staff at Glen Ayr was friendly and helpful. The hot tub was great and the facilities were clean and working properly. Our kids had an amazing big time meeting and playing with other kids at the grassy area. They even supply a bunch of outdoor toys for the kids yo play with. Can’t wait to come back!

Weekend Trip to Hidden Meadow Retreat

We hosted our first camp retreat this year with a fairly large group and this site was absolutely perfect for us. Everything was smooth from the get go, communication with Jake and Molly was a breeze and they were extremely accommodating to our group, making sure we had everything we needed. The full venue reservation was such a great choice here, we were able to set up our communal area by the deck site, using the deck as a stage of sorts and set up our meal service and drink stations near there. We also put the large open field to great use in between the tent site (which the area is much larger than it appears on the aerial map), and played team games, set up badminton, spikeball, frisbee, etc. The hot shower and two portable bathrooms were perfect for our group of almost 30, and the hot tub was definitely a welcomed addition that many of our campers got to enjoy. Everyone is already looking forward to coming back again next year. With planning a retreat at this scale for the first time, it was reassuring to have friendly hosts that are able to make the weekend that much easier and more enjoyable. We were all very impressed by how well maintained the Hidden Meadow property was, including all the small trails accessible to us. This will definitely be the campground for our annual retreat!

Water and electricity are available (but no sewage). Big Valley is a popular biking area and there are some really nice hiking trails nearby. Killer frisbee golf course across the street. New for 2024 is a gazebo with outdoor furniture and a propane fireplace. And a new picnic table located adjacent to the RV pad. In 2023 I installed a mesh WiFi system that gets good coverage at the site. Kick back and watch a movie on your laptop. Connection information is on the electric outlet adjacent to the site. In 2022 I had a gravel pad installed. I mention it as some of the older photos show folks needing levelers. Not the case anymore. Overhead clearance to wires is about 12 feet. Hose hook up and standard power outlet (15amp) available during your stay. Only a 10-15 minute uber/taxi to downtown or 5 minutes to nearby restaurants/bars. Not the most walkable but just a short car ride from most things! (Downtown, Alki Beach, Georgetown, Airport) We live in an urban setting so you may encounter noise from nearby vehicles, airplanes, fire trucks, etc. This site can only accommodate camper vans or class c motor homes no larger than 25ft. Driver will need to backdown our long driveway to park in the designated site on the side of our house. Please no more than three people and one vehicle. We may be able to make accommodations based on your situation but please message us first! We can only accommodate towable rvs no larger than 20ft in total length including trailer tongue. You must be able to backdown long driveway and park tow vehicle on street. Campfires are welcome in the designated fire pit at the bottom of our hill. A little about Orting - Nestled in the foothills of Mt Rainier between the Puyallup and Carbon Rivers, Orting is a quaint Turn-of-the-Century village that you will not forget. The town center is anchored by three parks filled with giant maples and evergreens. You will be awed by the view of Mt. Rainier from Washington Avenue. The levees on the east and west sides of town are perfect for hikes along the rivers. We love camping, hiking and any opportunity to be outside with our two children! In 2020 (one week before the whole world shut down from Covid) we found the hidden gem we had been searching for! A perfect place to raise our family, space to play and explore nature, super private and close to town! It seemed too good to be true and still does! After settling in and realizing what amazing natural beauty we had, we got to work developing our garden, orchards, trails, fire pits and….Campsites! After building a camp site for our family, we decided that we wanted to share this amazing space with other families to enjoy! We built Hidden Meadow to be the campsite that we have always searched for on our family adventures, surrounded by nature, away from the hustle and bustle of the world, with trails for hiking and a HOT TUB to relax in, in the evening! We hope that you enjoy it! About the property: We are located on a very private property (the only houses you will see are across the inlet) surrounded by nature but only about 10 minutes from downtown Olympia and 5 minutes from I-5 and Lacey. The property is situated on the very south end of Henderson Inlet. We are on the tide flats so twice a day (at high tide) we have the opportunity to explore on the water in canoes and kayaks. The property is spread over 16 acres and is comprised of two large fields (one in front of our home and the other is a smaller meadow off to the side (hidden meadow) and forest land. There is tons of space for playing, exploring and tiring out your kids and pups! Wildlife is abound with eagles, hawks, owls, falcons, shore birds and a variety of forest birds make this place their home. We are also frequented by the local deer who wonder through and say hi. About the campground: The campground is located in the far northeast corner of the property on the edge of the forest and meadow. In the common areas you will find the bathroom which has a shower and a toilet. The toilet is a porta-potty and the shower is propane headed. There is also a supply closet at the bathroom that has the yard games and extra supplies. There is a hottub situated right on the edge of the forest with peek-a-boo views of the inlet. You will also find garbage and recycling bins as well as a sink for washing hands (please water only down the sink). We have provided soap that is biodegradable for the sink and shower to help reduce our impact on this beautiful environment. There are trails throughout the forest along the 600 feet of water (tide) front. Along the trails you will find several different benches, seats and swings to relax and enjoy nature from. There is also several fairies and gnomes who have been sighted in the forest. If you look closely, you might spot one too! We ware, if you touch a fairy or gnome they do lose their magical powers so please respect the mystical creatures. 😊 The sites are about 500 feet from our house and offers great privacy. You may see us throughout the day and evening coming and going from the campground, working on the property or playing with the kids on the trails! Dogs: We do have two dogs on the property (Wilma and Bean) who are very friendly and we will keep them out of camp during your stay. Although they typically follow us when we walk down there. We allow dogs to be off leash at owner’s risk. There may be other dogs in camp so please use discretion when letting your dogs off leash and be mindful of other campers. You must be responsible for your own dogs, we are not responsible for any dog related or dog inflicted injuries. Getting here: We are off of Sleater Kinney Rd in Olympia. We have a long, steep, curvy driveway. At the bottom of the driveway, you will find signs directing you to the camp site. If you have extra vehicles, we have extra parking spaces adjacent to the campsite. The road out to camp may be bumpy (we do our best to keep it smooth) so go slow and beware of natural obstacles. Rules: 1. Check in time is 2:00pm or later. For afterhours arrivals, please let us know. 2. Check out time is 12:00pm or earlier 3. Quiet hours from 9pm to 8am. You are far from our house, so we can’t hear you but sound travels well over the water to our neighbors. Nobody wants grumpy neighbors, please be respectful. 4. Remain within the campground boundary during all times. If you need us, please feel free to text or call. 5. Please put all trash in the trash cans or take it with you. 6. Remove all dog doo and dispose of in the trash. 7. Leave what you find (except ripe blackberries). Please leave any forest treasures where you found them. 8. Cleanup any debris left from firewood/camp activities before departing. 9. Enjoy nature and respect it. Please stay on trails and respect the plants and the natural habitats. 10. Stay off the dock. It is closed for repair. 11. Do not use the trailside fireplace (if you find it) or our personal canoe or kayaks. However, feel free to enjoy the view from the seats by the fireplace. 12. Be cautious when walking around, the ground is bumpy and there are exposed tree roots that can be tripping hazards. We are not responsible from injuries. 13. Help us keep it clean- if you find any garbage around, please pick it up or let us know. 14. Keep fires small and when you are finished PUT YOUR FIRES DEAD OUT! There are 5 gallon buckets by each fire put to fill before you start your fire for putting them out. 15. Please do not burn trash or food. It can create issues with the wildlife. Put all waste in garbage cans.
