The historic Johnson Farm and Museum can be a great place to sample island life from 100+ years ago. Pay extra for use of the twin electric bikes to ride the many quiet, scenic roads around the island. These roads can take you to the hikes, the store, cafe, or sample the sights like the 1928 ferry "Ocean City" slowly sinking into the mud in Oro Bay. There is often deer, hawks, eagles, coyotes, bunnies, and sometimes humpback or orca whales, all within sight of the cabin. It's a great place to escape the hectic pace of the city and enjoy the solitude interrupted only by the sound of the birds, and perhaps the distant trains about 3 miles away. Writer looking for a spot to focus on your next book? Reader wanting to finish a good book? Both are a perfect fit. Dogs are welcome but cannot run free due to the native animals that call the area home. The ferry is a 1 hour walk so cars are recommended. The Steilacoom ferry to Anderson Island leaves from the wonderful historic town of Steilacoom which is also well worth visiting. There is no smoking of any kind in the cabin or on the property. We are a one hundred year old family owned farm with an organic garden, Permaculture garden, an apiary, and Christmas trees on six acres. We have Horseshoes, Tether ball, Disk Golf, Corn Hole and a small library for you to enjoy. Early spring the frogs go crazy later followed by the sounds of nesting birds. Fall is the season for migrating birds that rest at the ponds next door. August is the time to fill up on blackberries. There are individual campsites with a barbecue and picnic table and a shared fire pit. The fire pit didn't see much use last two years because of the fire danger so we have moved it to an open area that will be safer and hopefully be open longer, there is also an area at each campsite if you want to bring a propane fire ring (or we will have some for rent). You can star gaze from the fields and the major constellations can be seen on a dark night. We are becoming increasingly suburban and there is some road noise that can be heard and even with farms on three sides of us, you still might hear our neighbors in the distance. Campsites one and four are across the road from each other and campsites two and three are adjacent to each other, perfect if you have another family traveling with you. The Washington State Fair is 3.9 miles/ 13 minutes away, Tacoma Dome 7.5 miles/ 18 minutes, Point Defiance Park Zoo and Aquarium 19 miles/ 30 minutes and Wild Waves water park is 15 miles/ 26 minutes away. There is a gallery of wild life photography taken on the farm displayed in the outhouse. Eagles, hawks and Ospreys are frequent visitors to our property.

This special place has sweeping views, including a stunning shot of Mount Rainier on clear days. Surrounded by forested land including a park preserve, the land is usually quiet and fairly private. A great place to watch birds, access multiple park trails by foot, or just enjoy being outside in nature. If you plan to bring a dog, do check which trails do and don't allow four-footed friends. There are old fruit trees on the land that give plentiful fruit (most years) starting in August, and depending on the time of year you'll also find blackberries, huckleberries and salal berries. (Do watch for sporadic spots of poison oak but they are few and far between.) Plenty of spots to set up tents, as well as two van-designated camping spots separate and not in eye-shot from tent-camping meadow. Serving all is an outdoor/covered low-tech compost toilet tucked into the trees a couple minutes walk from the meadow. There is also a spigot near the parking area with hose where you can rinse off dishes, gear etc. If you'd like to drink this water, we recommend filtering it first. A public swimming hole on Lake Florence is a short drive away, along with beaches. Check back with us in the future as well, because we have big plans for additional amenities.

We are located on a very private property (the only houses you will see are across the inlet) surrounded by nature but only about 10 minutes from downtown Olympia and 5 minutes from I-5 and Lacey.
The property is situated on the very south end of Henderson Inlet. We are on the tide flats so twice a day (at high tide) we have the opportunity to explore on the water in canoes and kayaks. The property is spread over 16 acres and is comprised of two large fields (one in front of our home and the other is a smaller meadow off to the side (hidden meadow) and forest land. There is tons of space for playing, exploring and tiring out your kids and pups!
Wildlife is abound with eagles, hawks, owls, falcons, shore birds and a variety of forest birds make this place their home. We are also frequented by the local deer who wonder through and say hi.
About the campground:
The campground is located in the far northeast corner of the property on the edge of the forest and meadow. In the common areas you will find the porta potty, shower and sink. There is also a supply closet that has the yard games and extra supplies. There is a hot tub situated right on the edge of the forest with peek-a-boo views of the inlet. You will also find garbage and recycling bins.
There are trails throughout the forest along the 600 feet of water (tide) front. Along the trails you will find several different benches, seats and swings to relax and enjoy nature from. There are also fairies and gnomes who have been sighted in the forest. If you look closely, you might spot one too! We ware, if you touch a fairy or gnome they do lose their magical powers so please respect the mystical creatures. 😊
The sites are about 500 feet from our house and offer great privacy. You may see us throughout the day and evening coming and going from the campground, working on the property or playing with the kids on the trails!

Majestic Meadows is located on the back forested side of 10 acres. Each campsite is placed far enough apart to have privacy to enjoy the serenity of the camping experience. The property is filled with wild life. Mornings will be greeted with birdsong and our fields occasionally with elk, dear, and coyotes. Our property is a bird haven, so if you love watching birds we get regular sightings of Hawks, Eagles, Sparrows, Robins and little peaks of the adorable Humming birds. Our bunny population has no issues reproducing and filling all our bushes with their cute tails. If adventure is your desire, we are located perfectly!
Mt. Rainier scenic drive can be enjoyed from either 401 or a short drive to the southern entrance. Passing through Elbe where you can stop for a nice bite to eat on a train at the Mt. Rainier Railroad Dining Co. or visit a car show in the small quaint town of Eatonville. There's a plethora of things to do from hiking to kayaking, fishing, scenic drives, memorable dining, buying local organic fruit, visiting the Northwest Trek Wildlife Park and so much more. We truly love our property and it's location and we're excited to share it with you.

Please do not leave your trash in it. Pack it out with you. We maintain our property and clean the toilets once or twice a week. Cute little wood cabin on a large, quiet lot, with covered porch looking out towards the water near the end of Cole's Point. Gravity fed fresh water at the sink on the porch. Inside, includes couch, queen bed, twin bed, fridge with chilled water, freezer, microwave. Nicely heated in winter and stays cool in summer. Sitting in comfy camp chairs on the covered porch can be magical during a spring rain. Outhouse with nightlight and composting toilet. Firepit with kindling and firewood in winter. (Summer fires are not allowed.) Short walk to the beach to the north. Short walk south to the edge of the Oro Bay as well. Kayaks can be rented on island. (Not related to the host.) Multiple hikes / walks within Jacob's Point, Andy's Marine Park, and 7 other parks on island. One wonderful little grocery store on island for fresh or incidental items along with one cafe, and one restaurant. The historic Johnson Farm and Museum can be a great place to sample island life from 100+ years ago. Pay extra for use of the twin electric bikes to ride the many quiet, scenic roads around the island. These roads can take you to the hikes, the store, cafe, or sample the sights like the 1928 ferry "Ocean City" slowly sinking into the mud in Oro Bay. There is often deer, hawks, eagles, coyotes, bunnies, and sometimes humpback or orca whales, all within sight of the cabin. It's a great place to escape the hectic pace of the city and enjoy the solitude interrupted only by the sound of the birds, and perhaps the distant trains about 3 miles away. Writer looking for a spot to focus on your next book? Reader wanting to finish a good book? Both are a perfect fit. Dogs are welcome but cannot run free due to the native animals that call the area home. The ferry is a 1 hour walk so cars are recommended. The Steilacoom ferry to Anderson Island leaves from the wonderful historic town of Steilacoom which is also well worth visiting. There is no smoking of any kind in the cabin or on the property. We are a one hundred year old family owned farm with an organic garden, Permaculture garden, an apiary, and Christmas trees on six acres. We have Horseshoes, Tether ball, Disk Golf, Corn Hole and a small library for you to enjoy. Early spring the frogs go crazy later followed by the sounds of nesting birds. Fall is the season for migrating birds that rest at the ponds next door. August is the time to fill up on blackberries. There are individual campsites with a barbecue and picnic table and a shared fire pit. The fire pit didn't see much use last two years because of the fire danger so we have moved it to an open area that will be safer and hopefully be open longer, there is also an area at each campsite if you want to bring a propane fire ring (or we will have some for rent). You can star gaze from the fields and the major constellations can be seen on a dark night. We are becoming increasingly suburban and there is some road noise that can be heard and even with farms on three sides of us, you still might hear our neighbors in the distance. Campsites one and four are across the road from each other and campsites two and three are adjacent to each other, perfect if you have another family traveling with you. The Washington State Fair is 3.9 miles/ 13 minutes away, Tacoma Dome 7.5 miles/ 18 minutes, Point Defiance Park Zoo and Aquarium 19 miles/ 30 minutes and Wild Waves water park is 15 miles/ 26 minutes away. There is a gallery of wild life photography taken on the farm displayed in the outhouse. Eagles, hawks and Ospreys are frequent visitors to our property.

This special place has sweeping views, including a stunning shot of Mount Rainier on clear days. Surrounded by forested land including a park preserve, the land is usually quiet and fairly private. A great place to watch birds, access multiple park trails by foot, or just enjoy being outside in nature. If you plan to bring a dog, do check which trails do and don't allow four-footed friends. There are old fruit trees on the land that give plentiful fruit (most years) starting in August, and depending on the time of year you'll also find blackberries, huckleberries and salal berries. (Do watch for sporadic spots of poison oak but they are few and far between.) Plenty of spots to set up tents, as well as two van-designated camping spots separate and not in eye-shot from tent-camping meadow. Serving all is an outdoor/covered low-tech compost toilet tucked into the trees a couple minutes walk from the meadow. There is also a spigot near the parking area with hose where you can rinse off dishes, gear etc. If you'd like to drink this water, we recommend filtering it first. A public swimming hole on Lake Florence is a short drive away, along with beaches. Check back with us in the future as well, because we have big plans for additional amenities.

This place is a gem! Secluded from city life, but close enough to do what you want. We rented the deck site which was beyond fabulous. Our only concern was trying to get the rig level, as the gravel pad drops off to the side. We figured it out, though. They have a cute shed area with a couple bathrooms on the sides and a sink between. Our stay was wonderful and we hope to go back!

We looked for a spot relatively close to Seattle where we could leave our RV/home for the time we were away. We found this one and it worked! We were in the area to take a week long cruise to Alaska. This property worked for a variety of reasons!
Here is what worked for us!
• Close to everything! Yes, that is a true. There were local grocery stores, activities and of course to Seattle for our cruise.
• This property had a locked fence. This worked great for us for a secure spot to leave our RV while we were gone
• Cell service was good, since we were near a major metro
• ‘Trash Service’ - John offered if we left our trash bag in a particular spot, he’d pick it up and put it in the can. This was a great service
• We could receive packages to this location. We’re full timers and we’ve been on the road for nearly 6 years. How and where we get our mail is important.
• Quiet location
• This really fit our circumstance.
• John, the host was very communicative, helpful & accommodating
• BlackBerry bushes behind the garages. I love being in Washington and all of the blackberries everywhere!
What did not work
• The middle spot was quite un-level. We had 3 wheels off the ground
• No pedestrian gate if you’re there for a short stay. There is a way to get out of the locked gate if you’re walking. Just ask the host.
• Some free ranging dogs on the property to know about.
• Neighbor dog up the hill barks a lot

Beautiful, peaceful site tucked away in the trees. You can hear the creek trickling in the background, which makes it incredibly relaxing. The site is spacious, easy to access, and feels very safe and private.
Having water and 30-amp power right at the site is a huge plus, and the host is very responsive and helpful. A wonderful place to unwind and enjoy the surroundings. I would definitely stay here again!

What a VERY pleasant surprise and total getaway! Molly and Jake were wonderful hosts assuring we were settled in and we appreciated so much their opening up their little hidden meadow paradise.
It was a great location for us. Close to our daughter in Olympia - she was able to join us and tent on the site with us. The husband enjoyed the proximity to hiking,biking and a soak in the small hot tub and I savored the quiet to recover from a nasty cold.
All in all it has risen to top our list of most favorite Hip Camps!

Wow! This was our first stay ever using Hipcamp and it was such a spur of the moment choice! It was the first place we clicked on and OH. MY. GOSH!
This was such a beautiful location with a unique and welcoming atmosphere! My girlfriend was so appreciative of the clean bathroom/honey bucket on site! The hot tub was incredible and such a treat to end the night! Jake checked in with us to see if there was anything that needed tending to shortly after we arrived, which was so nice of him to do!
I would absolutely stay here again and would love to do a group trip in the future as the price is more than fair!

Mount Rainier National Park
Enjoy springtime wildflowers along a waterfall hike, or step up to a steep stratovolcano when camping near Mount Rainier National Park. Year-round excitement awaits with warm-weather hiking and biking or winter skiing and snowboarding. For a challenge, climb 14,410 feet to the summit of Mount Rainier for diverse landscapes and epic views. A permit is required, and ice-climbing gear is a must! On-site camping ranges from primitive sites at Mowich Lake to RV camping with water and dump stations. There are no utility hookups.
Olympic National Park
Almost a million acres of environmental beauty await campers exploring Olympic National Park. Hoh Rainforest, Mount Olympus, and Sol Duc Hot Springs are a few of the park’s iconic features. Camp under a canopy of old growth trees, wake up to ocean views, or nestle in near hot springs. With several on-site campgrounds, Olympic National Park offers flush toilets, fire rings, picnic tables, and potable water, as well as primitive camping throughout the park. While RVs are welcome, there are no hookups and no generators allowed.
Millersylvania State Park
Miles of tree-covered trails weave through Millersylvania State Park, welcoming campers to hike, bike, and explore. Featuring Deep Lake, a 66-acre body of water, Millersylvania delights visitors with a boat launch, two swimming holes, and a 100-foot dock perfect for summer fun. Campsites, glampsites, cabin rentals, and lakeside cottages make camping easy, with over 90 standard sites, 45 partial hookups, showers, restrooms, and dump stations. Built in the 1930s, Millersylvania is also home to historical sites including rustic kitchen shelters.
When to go
While Lakewood offers camping year-round, the area is known for its short summers and cold, wet winters. Campers will find warmer weather from late June to early September, averaging a high of 78°F and dropping to the mid 50s overnight. Glacial sites can be enjoyed throughout summer, but be prepared for cooler temperatures at high altitudes. Winter campers will experience temperatures in the low 30s and 40s, making cold-weather camping experience a must.
