Get to the forest—or to the city—quickly and easily from this Tacoma-area RV trip home base.
On the southern outskirts of Tacoma, on the eastern shores of Puget Sound, Lakewood is a good spot to base yourself with your RV, big rig, or campervan for easy access to Seattle and regional outdoor attractions. Two national parks sit within close driving distance—Mount Rainier National Park and Olympic National Park—and the beaches of Washington’s Pacific Coast are less than a 2-hour drive away. There are privately owned RV parks aplenty in Lakewood, and Dash Point State Park, which has a dump station and a mix of standard and hookup sites, is only a half-hour drive away. However, if you’re after something a bit less urban, you’re best off seeking out an RV campsite on private land (often with picnic tables and BBQ grills) or heading out into the nearby Gifford Pinchot National Forest or Olympic National Forest.
