Cute little wood cabin on a large, quiet lot, with covered porch looking out towards the water near the end of Cole's Point. Gravity fed fresh water at the sink on the porch. Inside, includes couch, queen bed, twin bed, fridge with chilled water, freezer, microwave. Nicely heated in winter and stays cool in summer. Sitting in comfy camp chairs on the covered porch can be magical during a spring rain. Outhouse with nightlight and composting toilet. Firepit with kindling and firewood in winter. (Summer fires are not allowed.) Short walk to the beach to the north. Short walk south to the edge of the Oro Bay as well. Kayaks can be rented on island. (Not related to the host.) One wonderful little grocery store on island for fresh or incidental items along with one cafe, and one restaurant. The historic Johnson Farm and Museum can be a great place to sample island life from 100+ years ago. Pay extra for use of the twin electric bikes to ride the many quiet, scenic roads around the island. These roads can take you to the hikes, the store, cafe, or sample the sights like the 1928 ferry "Ocean City" slowly sinking into the mud in Oro Bay. There is often deer, hawks, eagles, coyotes, bunnies, and sometimes humpback or orca whales, all within sight of the cabin. It's a great place to escape the hectic pace of the city and enjoy the solitude interrupted only by the sound of the birds, and perhaps the distant trains about 3 miles away. Writer looking for a spot to focus on your next book? Reader wanting to finish a good book? Both are a perfect fit. Dogs are welcome but cannot run free due to the native animals that call the area home. The ferry is a 1 hour walk so cars are recommended. The Steilacoom ferry to Anderson Island leaves from the wonderful historic town of Steilacoom which is also well worth visiting. There is no smoking of any kind in the cabin or on the property. We are located on a very private property (the only houses you will see are across the inlet) surrounded by nature but only about 10 minutes from downtown Olympia and 5 minutes from I-5 and Lacey.
The property is situated on the very south end of Henderson Inlet. We are on the tide flats so twice a day (at high tide) we have the opportunity to explore on the water in canoes and kayaks. The property is spread over 16 acres and is comprised of two large fields (one in front of our home and the other is a smaller meadow off to the side (hidden meadow) and forest land. There is tons of space for playing, exploring and tiring out your kids and pups!
Wildlife is abound with eagles, hawks, owls, falcons, shore birds and a variety of forest birds make this place their home. We are also frequented by the local deer who wonder through and say hi.
About the campground:
The campground is located in the far northeast corner of the property on the edge of the forest and meadow. In the common areas you will find the porta potty, shower and sink. There is also a supply closet that has the yard games and extra supplies. There is a hot tub situated right on the edge of the forest with peek-a-boo views of the inlet. You will also find garbage and recycling bins.
There are trails throughout the forest along the 600 feet of water (tide) front. Along the trails you will find several different benches, seats and swings to relax and enjoy nature from. There are also fairies and gnomes who have been sighted in the forest. If you look closely, you might spot one too! We ware, if you touch a fairy or gnome they do lose their magical powers so please respect the mystical creatures. 😊
The sites are about 500 feet from our house and offer great privacy. You may see us throughout the day and evening coming and going from the campground, working on the property or playing with the kids on the trails!

Offering a lovely, personal campsite area surrounded by beautiful trees nestled at back of a ranch with horses (and chickens) on the outskirts of the small, charming town of Yelm. (In some of the pictures you will see horses in camp area, but are not turned out when campers are there.) There is 20 amp elec. (which can safely power a 30 amp rv unless you run too many things at once) and water/hose. There is a porta-potty and a shower shed with a tankless water heater for your convenience.
We also offer a small bunk room in the barn. Heated and cooled (fan) with a small "kitchen" area, it has a pull out futon which sleeps 2 and requires you supply your own bedding and towels.
1 Hour to Mt. Rainier Nat. Park. 1 1/2 hours to Olympia Nat. Park. 2 1/2 hours to Mt. St. Helens. 1 hour to Seattle. Close to Puget Sound and loads of nature spots. Local hiking and fishing aplenty. Our property is surrounded by nature, yet only a 5 minute drive into town where you will find charming shops, restaurants, cafes and coffee houses, a fabulous movie theater and only 15 minutes to Red Wind Casino.
There is a railroad track next to the property, only used on Tues. and Thurs. between 10 am and 1 pm. Rarely, it may have an additional passing but it has never run after dark or early morning.
(We are close enough to roads that you may hear some traffic. They are county roads and not highly traveled for the most part.)
**Trigger Warnings: We are near JBLM military base so you may occasionally hear military doings.

A little about Orting - Nestled in the foothills of Mt Rainier between the Puyallup and Carbon Rivers, Orting is a quaint Turn-of-the-Century village that you will not forget.
The town center is anchored by three parks filled with giant maples and evergreens. You will be awed by the view of Mt. Rainier from Washington Avenue.
The levees on the east and west sides of town are perfect for hikes along the rivers. The 20 mile Foothills Trail meanders right through the middle of town and then takes you along the Carbon River levee. Bike, walk, take the stroller and the family pet. Enjoy the turn-of-the-century architecture of downtown and eat at one of the 15 restaurants.
If your timing is right you can take part in the Daffodil festival and parade the first Saturday of April. The Kingsmen Car show comes to town the third Saturday in June. Then there is the Pumpkin festival the second weekend of October. Finally the year is capped off with the Christmas festival throughout December. Then there are the many foot and bike races that take place on the foothills trail throughout the year.

This backyard shed conversion is a perfect mix of comfy and quirky! Ms Pacman, Beanie Babies, a lips couch, and Space Jam all make an appearance in this suburban backyard glamping experience! At just 186 square feet, this spot is all yours to enjoy away from the noise of the city in our large and lush backyard. You will have full rein of a private patio to smoke or enjoy meals on our newly built cedar deck, or enjoy a drink in the shared hammock space under our towering Eastern Hemlock tree.
Your quiet backyard refuge is newly converted with everything you’ll need for a fun weekend away. We are just two blocks from the bus stop with access to Seattle’s great transit system. This space is close to the airport, close to downtown, and walkable to the home of the The Rat City Roller Derby in White Center. And only two blocks from your door is Westcrest Park, a Greenbelt with trails and a beautiful view of the Seattle skyline. If you feel like staying in, enjoy our Mr and Mrs Pacman games in your “mini arcade” or make use of some of the supplied board games or the sudoku/coloring books available. Relax on an iconic Seattle drag bar’s original “lips couch” and grab a book from our queer library with beer available for purchase in your kitchenette.
This is a stand alone structure that is separate from our main house. There is no shower in this dry space, but there is a camping sink that functions like a normal kitchen sink with hot water capacity. The shed has an easy to use composting toilet with clear instructions if you’re a first timer. Also, “Ms Pacman's Backyard Glampsite” is a converted shed, so be ready for some lower ceilings and narrow spaces. The lofted full bed is cozy, so don’t bob your head on the way out! The bed has a six inch memory foam mattress with extra blankets and pillows available. Everything is washed with free and clear laundry detergent for any sensitivities.
We provide a small refrigerator, a 2 burner stove with pots and pans for light cooking, coffee making supplies (reusable keurig pods or pour over coffee along with creamers and sugars), wine openers, dishes, and more. We have 2 tables where you can enjoy meals and games either indoors or outdoors.
You will be one block away from Highland Park which has a tennis court and baseball field. Less than a mile north, you can explore the West Duwamish Greenbelt Trails. Only two blocks south of the property is Westcrest Park that hosts a community garden, a dog park, and small trails in their greenbelt. You’re also walking distance to downtown White Center, which has a microbrewery, a roller skating rink, a gay bar, a plant store, and plenty of coffee shops and restaurants.

17 min to Hood Canal, 30 min to Lake Cushman, 50 min to the Staircase Entrance of Olympic Natl Park (33 miles). Perfect location for setting up camp with your RV, then taking your car up into the Olympics. Looking for dog-friendly hikes? Several Olympic Natl Forest and Skokomish Wilderness trails can be accessed from Lake Cushman, including Mt. Ellinor, Mt. Rose, and Mt. Washington.
When returning, enjoy what the property has to offer. A trailhead beckons you to the shores of Mill Creek. If you pause along the trail, wildlife will stir from their hiding places. Song birds, rabbits, deer, voles – yes. But also river otters, beavers, ducks, owls, and coyotes. The trail is historic to the property - you will find remnants of fallen barbed wire fences, an abandoned electrical post from 70 years ago, and a 1960’s sedan, all taken back by the forest.
A wetland boardwalk ushers you to a creekside deck. A birdwatcher's paradise, here you can kayak into Lake Isabella or tube downstream. This is private access -- the expansive wetlands prevent neighbors - you will only share this special space with the occasional kayaker. There is a beaver dam just upstream, and if you visit at twilight you will hear them stir from dens along the bank.
When hunger stirs, stroll north along the trail to a secluded upland picnic table. Dine among the woodland animals.
Between our rental cottage and RV site is a large propane fire pit with half-moon seating - perfect for roasting S'mores late into the evening or stargazing in a region remote from city lights.
With just a single RV site and cottage, the nearest neighbor acres away, and only State land between the property and Hwy 101, you can expect a private stay in a forested setting with easy freeway access to the Olympics on one side and an idyllic private creek side nature preserve on the other. This spot truly is a treasure. Warm lake, private little inlet with lots of options no matter the age. My kids loved the pirate theme and had a few treasure hunts; my teenage daughter stayed on the paddleboard. The kids were up early to fish and went to bed wiped out every night. It is hard to entertain the entire family, but this place has pretty much taken the pressure off and provided a special experience for everyone to enjoy the time spent here!

Weekend Trip to The Khohay Farm
Jenel and Khohay are so so sweet. And their little cabin was the perfect weekend getaway for me to relax and enjoy some alone time. The farm fresh eggs were yummy and I loved staring out the back of the deck on the sheep’s and goats roaming around the property while listening to the gentle babble of the brook. The space might be tight for two people, especially in the winter if it’s cold and you don’t want to be on the deck which functions as an extended living space.

Cozy cabin in a private setting with a view of the sound. Super comfy bed. Quiet, a nearby walk to the beach. The chocolate chip cookies were a bonus, and Fred is friendly, can talk about the island, lives next door but makes himself invisible.

Weekend Trip to Elfendahl Forest
My second time staying was even more magical than the first! I simply love it at Elfendahl Forest and can’t wait to stay again. I would literally live there if I could! Highlights: the wanderbus is the coolest and has everything you need! There were three cool dogs: Bacchus, Raven and Honey. Along with awesome chickens, bunnies and even a couple of lovely cats. The shower was amazing and I love the communal kitchen and compostable toilets and all the fun decorations and discoverable surprises all over.

Such a great spot! The cabin is cozy, clean and quiet. You can tell that care and consideration was given - you'll have most of the things you need to enjoy a few days in the trees. We brought a teen with us, and the tent pad was perfect. The location is outstanding as well- you're close to several day hikes.

Gary was an excellent host! The Wanderbus and hot tub were just what we needed to escape the city life for the weekend. Everything was well stocked and there were some unexpected provisions that made it clear that Gary puts a lot of thought into having guest stay in his community. Weekend Trip to Cole's Cabin on Anderson Island
It was a wonderful quiet peaceful retreat. We didn't do much of anything except enjoy a beautiful view, have warm bare feet finally! and enjoy each other's company.
We will return in a more adventurous time.
Fred was a wonderful host & yes, the brownies are good, especially with a cup of mint tea before bed!

This was a lovely site with every detail thought of. Of particular note was the excellent fire pit, the working grill, the chairs, the running water and basic supplies for making meals, and of course, the well appointed Quonset hut. We had a great time. It was what we were looking for!
