Camping near Bellevue

·

Across Lake Washington from Seattle, Bellevue makes a good base if you want to be near Seattle but also want to be able to head east into more natural areas without having to fight traffic. There’s not much in town in terms of outdoor adventure, beyond boating on Lake Washington to the west of town and Lake Sammamish to the east. That said, you won’t have to go far to find some excellent hiking opportunities, particularly if you head southeast to Cougar Mountain Regional Wildland Park, Squak Mountain State Park Natural Area, and the Tiger Mountain State Forest.

Manchester State Park

10. Manchester State Park

State park 600mi from Bellevue · 2 sites
Manchester State Park features a beach, sand dunes, and flat grasslands, with nearly 18,000 feet of ocean frontage. The beach line curves gently to form a "catch basin" for sea debris, which accounts for the volume of driftwood found here. Five miles of gentle, sandy beach stretches southward towards the Point Arena Lighthouse. One of the main attractions is the excellent steelhead fishing in the park’s two streams, Brush Creek and Alder Creek. The park features a variety of coastal wildflowers, including sea pinks, poppies, lupines, baby blue eyes and blue irises. The park provides habitat for tundra swans. The San Andreas Fault runs into the sea at the park. The park takes its name from the village of Manchester, which is located in Mendocino County on Coast Highway 1 about seven miles north of Point Arena. This is an area of rich grazing lands, flocks of sheep and herds of cattle which add a pastoral note to some of the most spectacular coastal scenery in the world.

We have a 65 acre farm in Duvall, WA. The Snoqualmie River flows through the property, as does the Snoqualmie Valley Trail. You can bike an easy 2 miles to downtown Duvall. The farm is owned and operated by the Pickering Family, who has been living on the farm since 1884. The property is close to Seattle but feels like a world away!

We are a delicious piece of permaculture nestled into suburbia, with the help of an amazing 7-person "farmily." As one visitor mentioned, "this place is like a cultural exchange program without leaving the country!" As devoted homesteaders, we have friends of all ages helping on the farm, and a lot of friendly animals from goats to ducks to ponies. Pitch your tent in our beloved forest and stroll the trails through our four acres of woods or on nearby state trails. Say hello to the goats, chickens, ponies, and rabbits. Outdoor sink and shower have hot and cold water. Enjoy our living, breathing forest. Our beautiful yurt means that you can sleep on benches around the campfire and never have to pack up a wet tent. You'll have access to a toilet, shower, and potable water.

Bellevue camping guide

Where to go

Around Lake Washington

There are plenty of spots worth checking out in the Lake Washington area, both in Bellevue and in nearby cities. Lakefront parks worth checking out include Seattle's massive Seward Park and the similarly sized Saint Edward State Park on the northeastern shores of the lake. If you want to fish, head north to Kirkland, where there are lots of public piers (just make sure to get a license first).

Mount Rainier National Park

Featuring miles of hiking trails, fantastic rock climbing, and a bounty of colorful springtime wildflowers, Mount Rainier National Park is ideal for both day trips and overnight stays. There are four campgrounds in the park, and while they're only open seasonally, there are a few private spots in the area where you can camp year-round.

Leavenworth

East of Bellevue in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest sits one of Washington's quirkiest destinations: Leavenworth. Modeled after a Bavarian town, complete with hand-painted signs, timber-beam facades, and a beer garden, this popular tourist destination draws in wintertime crowds with its annual Christmas market and light display. Year-round camping is available in the nearby Lake Wenatchee State Park.

When to go

There's plenty to do in Bellevue throughout the year, from a summertime art fair to the annual Bellevue Jazz & Blues Music Series, held every October. The weather here is temperate, and while winters are mild, the region gets a ton of rain from late autumn well into spring. If outdoor activities are on your radar, it's wise to come in the summertime, when highs are usually in the mid- to upper-70s and there's generally not too much rainfall.
