This beautiful property on 60+ acres offers camping in hay fields that are bordered by forest, and have creeks running throughout. You can park directly at all of the sites. Pack-in, pack-out. No electricity or water hookups. The sites are best suited for tent camping and truck-top campers, though we've also had camper vans book our sites with a good experience.
*Sandy Bottom: this is the flattest/most level option, with wide open field bordered by trees and access to Davis Creek. These sites are closest to 29, and you should expect road noise. There are natural springs clearly marked so you can avoid getting any vehicles stuck.
*Crawfish Creek: This is the most secluded/quiet site, with creek access. There are natural springs around the creek in this location, so pay attention to the marked off areas to avoid getting stuck.
*Sunset Ridge: This site has incredible 360 panoramic mountain views, and shares a driveway to the private residence. If you choose to bring dogs to this site, please know that they will be able to see (and smell and hear) our many animals and livestock guardian dogs.
Safety, privacy and environmental impact is very important to us. Please contain all trash, human waste and canine waste and pack it out with you when you leave. Be kind to the areas in which you camp, as they are home to many wildlife, native trees/shrubs/plants and in some cases, food for horses and cows (hay fields).

Just minutes from the Nelson 151 Craft Beverage trail (over 15 family friendly breweries/winers) and right across the street from Woodridge Farm Brewery. Camp Cove Creek is located in rural Faber, Virginia which is 20 minutes from Charlottesville in beautiful Nelson County. In addition to the many natural features like the Blue Ridge Parkway, Appalachian Trail and the James River, Nelson is home to Wintergreen Resort and Oakridge Estate and hosts events such as the Lok'n Festival, Camp Jeep, and Overland Expo.
Camp Cove Creek was part of my grandparent's Waveland Farm. Originally situated on over 600 acres, the brick antebellum house across the hill was used as a hospital in the Civil War. The camp used to be a horse and cattle farm as well as a flea market and airport with grass airstrip when my mom owned the land. Our vegetable garden was down by the swimming hole. The airstrip still maintained as such in order to offer aviation-accessible camping. It is the future home of Faber Christmas tree farm and features over a dozen notable antique vehicles rusting in peace. Some models are of the same make and model featured on TV and film.
Camp Cove Creek is easily accessible via Rt 29 and Rt 6 east (Irish Road). Our property sits at the confluence of Bear and Cove Creeks where wading/hiking/tubing is permitted and encouraged (with water shoes). We are continually trying to improve the site by removing old barbed wire, poison ivy, roadside trash, and invasive plant species in addition to planting Christmas Trees. It's a work in progress.
This is your 30-acre camping playground! Licensed off-road vehicles, ADV and Dual-sport motorcycles, horses, personal electric vehicles and EVEN PRIVATE PLANES are welcomed! We encourage walking the route first as it has intentionally been left primitive to provide more of an authentic and fun getaway adventure. Overlanding does tend to scratch paint so wheel at your own risk, unless it's wet.
There is a Volleyball court, soccer field, and now 18 holes of disc golf!
Nearby in the soapstone mining town of Schuyler you can visit the home place of Earl Hamner, best known for his creation of The Waltons TV show. While you're there check out the Waltons Mountain Museum, which happens to be my old elementary school and my parent's former high school. This is an active 55-acre horse farm. About 2/3rds of the property is developed with barns and fenced pastures and the other third is largely undeveloped areas with a loop driveway where most of the camp sites are located. There is a large white house at the far end of the property. The restroom for campers to use is located there. To one side of the driveway, on the way to the house there is a beautiful large swimming pond, complete with beach and gazebo.

Amazing views and super private setting. It was quiet and let us be in touch with nature. Kids caught crickets and butterflies and spiders. Close enough to fuel, country store, great hiking and waterfalls. We hope to go back!

The campground itself is calming, a river flows through it, there is pasture land and trees.
The campground has a secure dog run, it’s great to take our 2 dogs off their leashes for a few minutes when we use it. The bathroom and showers are very clean.
The hosts are very nice and accommodating. This is our second stay there and there will be more stays.

We loved camping at high camp! we stayed during the persied meteor shower and it was PERFECT. we walked around with my dog who loved frolicking through the (well maintained!) trails and in the stream, and the old abandoned vehicles throughout the property were a really charming touch. John was quick to respond and super helpful. I was a little nervous about the train noise after seeing a review that mentioned it, but my friends and I didn't have any issues sleeping, plus the regular outside nighttime noises were more than loud enough to cover any traffic sounds.

We stayed here a night as tent campers (bringing a bucket toilet) and had an awesome time. Beautiful piece of land with stellar views. Felt like we were camping in a cloud. Sam made getting in and out very easy, and it's an easy drive from either Staunton or Lexington. Would recommend!

Sam’s place was great. The dirt gravel road in had some low hanging branches for our 12’ rig, but we managed. We loved the privacy as we were the only site booked on the property. It was secluded and the stars were epic. There was plenty of firewood and all the hookups worked great. Great location for other adventures as well. Very easy communication.

Group trip
High Camp served as a our base camp for some local adventures; there is a lot to do in this part of the world!
Host John happened to be on site when we arrived and helped us identify the exact location of the water and 50 AMP electric supply to the site. We set up near the picnic table atop a knoll, parallel to and just inside the "cut" edge of the field. (The hookups are behind the Bounder Camper (future rental space--currently unoccupied) which is visible to the right as you drive in, up behind the Christmas tree lot.)
We did have to go to the max capacity of our wheel leveling ramp and were still a little out of level left-to-right, but we were easily able to level on the long axis with our hitch jack.
The property is beautiful with amazing views to the west--prepare for some stunning sunset vistas. We did wander around some of the closely-mowed trails (paths) and enjoyed some of the nostalgic, vintage vehicles set around for fun. We did enjoy the 30 acres of solitude. Some reviews mentioned road noise--we barely noticed it and never found it even a bit annoying. A distant, active train track across the valley added the occasional train horn, which was delightful in our book
Had some friends car-camping with us--they also found High Camp to their liking.
