Sharp's Island is so named because the Sharp family of Richmond owned it as far back as the 1850s. The old brick foundation you see in the pictures is all that remains of a house that was built on the island in 1895 and stood for 75 years! We consider ourselves stewards of an amazing historic, ecological, geologic, and recreational asset, and we would love to have you add your story to this island's long history!

This is your own private island, and it's right in the heart of downtown RVA! The Piedmont meets the Coastal Plain right here at Sharp's Island. That makes for amazing fishing, especially during the spring shad and striper runs.
Some other incredible things about camping at Sharp's Island: You can motor up to it from Ancarrow's Landing, canoe over from the trail just below Mayo Bridge, or make this the destination for your downriver raft/kayak trip; at summer river levels there are oodles of great swimming holes along the banks; fire pit ready and waiting for you. This RV site is located on beautiful waterfront acreage, surrounded by lush trees and is within biking distance to local restaurants and Cobb Island MD. Large open acreage site surrounded by trees with a private pier. Enjoy the 100-foot pier with fishing, swimming, and use of our 2 kayaks on this quiet inlet leading to the Potomac River. Wow!!! My friends and I all loved this site, we'll definitely be coming back here, might not go to another site again. Easily accessible from DC, and the environment was absolutely perfect. Lots of room for lots of people, gorgeous surrounding, nice walking around the area, lovely views from the water too.

Robert's site was as advertised. Super privacy, full hookups. Robert was there to meet us, blowing leaves and putting things in tip-top shape for our stay. We enjoyed the firepit (bought some wood from him) and spent the day exploring Mineral (a couple of consignment shops, 53rd Winery--awesome--and Tim's Restaurant on the lake). This place is just under an hour from our home and great for quick getaways. It's on our list to do again!

The site itself is very private, spacious, and well-maintained — perfect for relaxing and enjoying the outdoors without feeling crowded. Derek, the owner, is always incredibly accommodating and goes above and beyond to make sure guests have everything they need. We plan to keep coming back every year — it’s become one of our favorite getaway spots!

The campground itself is situated right on the river with a very thoughtful set of steps leading down to a beachy area. Plenty of space to set up tents and have designated areas for games, cooking, etc.
The host was super welcoming and brought a load of firewood out to us to make sure we had a comfortable stay. We will absolutely be coming back.

The view is beautiful. My pictures are amazing. Very quiet and peaceful. Close to the rivers edge. It did not rain, so I had no issues. However, flooding would be the only concern or negative. This is my favorite or number 1 campsite. This was my 5th camping trip. I would book again.

I really enjoyed my stay at this campsite. The area was very clean and well-maintained, and the host was friendly and welcoming, making the experience even better. I especially loved spending time fishing — the spot is peaceful and relaxing, perfect for unwinding outdoors.
The only downside was noticing that quite a few trees have been cut down since my last visit. It’s still a beautiful place, but it doesn’t feel quite as shaded or natural as before. Overall, though, it remains a great location for camping, relaxing, and enjoying nature. I’d definitely come back again.
