Starting December 1, or first night below freezing we will be closing down Bath House and only access will be at outhouses. Only sites near outhouses will be open and there will be no access to water.
Situated at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains and bordering the Jefferson National Forest, Thunder BRidge has scenic, large, private tent sites and cabins in the woods for those who want to experience camping at its finest. Many of the sites border Elk Creek. Our RV sites are large, flat and at the edge of the forest in a well kept open green space.
Our 100 acres was originally a camp built by the Civilian Conservation Corp in the "30s and early '40s, then a boys' juvenile detention center and Big Brothers'/Big Sisters' camp, which closed in 2009. The tent sites and cabins are in the forest, away from the buildings out front, but you're free to walk around and check out the historic site. Most of the buildings out front are artist studios (currently for 16 artists). We like to share the camp with others and watch it come back to life.
All within a short driving distance are the Natural Bridge, wineries, breweries, Natural Bridge Zoo, Safari Park, Dinosaur Kingdom, Appalachian Trail, Blue Ridge Parkway, James River, historic Lexington, Devil's Marbleyard, Glenwood Horse Trail, swimming holes, etc. We have river access 2 miles up the road if you'd like to fish or put your kayak or canoe in. Truly, there is something nearby for everyone. We'd be happy to give you recommendations of things to see and do. If you are a star gazer you won't be disappointed by our dark sky.
We want to share our property with those who want to stay for more than one night, so we do not accept inquiries of single night stays.

The Space:
Your campsite is located on a sprawling 32-acre property, ensuring total privacy and a true sense of seclusion. One-third of the land is forested, with the remainder consisting of creek frontage and pastureland. Our private home is situated on the far end of the property with its own by separate entrance, while you’ll have your own driveway and gated entrance.
We are close enough that if you need a cup of sugar or a telephone, we’re here for you—but we won’t intervene in your stay unless invited to, such as for a live guitar singalong by the fireside. If you stay up late howling at the moon, or if your dog barks at wildlife late at night, you’re far enough away that we won’t be bothered.
The property fronts a serene creek with truly pristine water. Due to the remoteness of the area, there is no industry or population density to pollute it. It’s perfect for cooling off on a warm day, trying your luck at fishing, or simply enjoying the tranquil sounds of flowing water.
You are literally surrounded by three national forests. Step off your site and directly into miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking, and wildlife viewing.
There are multiple large, level areas perfect for setting up tents or parking self-contained RVs, giving you plenty of room to spread out and make yourself at home.
This is a true off-grid experience. Come prepared to disconnect, as there is no phone service, and enjoy the stars free from city light pollution.

This was a 55-acre farm, split in half to accommodate a bypass through Charlottesville, so the previous owners had to give up half the land, and actually moved the house down to the other half of the property! They had to build a land bridge to get to the new home site, so they turned the bridge into a dam and created a beautiful large swimming pond, complete with beach and gazebo. My wife Stephanie and I bought the property in early 2017 and have turned it into a private horse farm, adding pastures, a riding ring, and 6-stall barn. There are ~21 horses who live on the property.
The property is unique in that you can hardly see another house from anywhere on the property and yet we are only 2 miles from
Barracks Rd. Shopping Center, and 4 miles from the University of Virginia.

Accessible by car or canoe, East End at Seven Islands provides endless fun for the whole family, including your well behaved off-leash dogs.
When you arrive take a cooling dip in a quiet “river pool”, relax on your private beach, or see if the fish are biting.
Let your kids experience the best the river has to offer by exploring the shallows for crayfish, chasing minnows, or watching for Bald Eagles patrolling the river.
Your site is approximately 2 acres, so you will have your choice of where to pitch a tent or place your camper or trailer.

This is a great spot for people looking for peace and quiet.
26 Minutes upriver of Claytor Lake State Park. There is a zoo in nearby Ft. Chiswell.
Each site has full hook ups. No tents are allowed due to lack of toilet facilities.
Area grocery stores are located about 30 minutes away in Wytheville, Pulaski and Hillsville.

You are welcomed to bring your furry family members, bikes and kayaks. There is no swimming in the pond. It was built for fishing so it’s not safe to swim due to structures under the water for the fish.
We are only 30 minutes from Carter’s Mountain, Monticello and Jefferson Winery’s. Thistle Gate Winery is only 5 minutes away and 20 minutes to Scottsville were you can enjoy the James River. UVA sports complex is only 30 minutes away and you’re able to go the back way in to skip the gridlock of the traffic.

Located 5 miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway and Appalachian trail is a small camping area with a bathhouse that includes a toilet and hot shower. A mountain stream rushes through the campground providing a peaceful and tranquil stay. During the months of November through May I can stock the stream with rainbow trout during your stay. The recreational draw to this area is hard to beat in VA, and this property has it all for an amazing outdoor weekend! The ranch comprises 40 acres of lowland acreage designated for the camp, including a 5-acre lake.
The Cedar Grove sites 1, 2, and 3 are along the banks of Passage Creek located within a sparse, groomed Cedar grove. They are all a short walk (or drive) to the lake and beach amenities. Each site has varying access to the creek, so check out the site details. These sites are extra large and can accommodate multiple family groups, as well as, travel trailers of all sizes up to off-road motorcoaches in site 1. There are no hookups, so just boondocking. Pack it in, Pack it out. Generators are allowed but please be aware of the other sites and direct the noise away.
The Lakeside Mountain Stream site is very secluded, nestled between the mountains and the lake. It overlooks our 5-acre lake with mountain views in the background. It's on the opposite side of the lake from the Cedar Sites. This site has its own dock and is just a short walk down a mowed trail to a beautiful section of Passage Creek. An additional seasonal mountain stream can cascade behind the site and run under it to feed the lake when the conditions are right. It's a delicate site, so the accommodations and group size is strictly limited.

Locally, the North end of Fort Valley offers many great hiking trails, trout fishing, rock climbing, horseback riding, and the Elizabeth Furnace day-use park. The Space:
Your campsite is located on a sprawling 32-acre property, ensuring total privacy and a true sense of seclusion. One-third of the land is forested, with the remainder consisting of creek frontage and pastureland. Our private home is situated on the far end of the property with its own by separate entrance, while you’ll have your own driveway and gated entrance.
We are close enough that if you need a cup of sugar or a telephone, we’re here for you—but we won’t intervene in your stay unless invited to, such as for a live guitar singalong by the fireside. If you stay up late howling at the moon, or if your dog barks at wildlife late at night, you’re far enough away that we won’t be bothered.
The property fronts a serene creek with truly pristine water. Due to the remoteness of the area, there is no industry or population density to pollute it. It’s perfect for cooling off on a warm day, trying your luck at fishing, or simply enjoying the tranquil sounds of flowing water.
You are literally surrounded by three national forests. Step off your site and directly into miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking, and wildlife viewing.
There are multiple large, level areas perfect for setting up tents or parking self-contained RVs, giving you plenty of room to spread out and make yourself at home.
This is a true off-grid experience. Come prepared to disconnect, as there is no phone service, and enjoy the stars free from city light pollution.

This was a 55-acre farm, split in half to accommodate a bypass through Charlottesville, so the previous owners had to give up half the land, and actually moved the house down to the other half of the property! They had to build a land bridge to get to the new home site, so they turned the bridge into a dam and created a beautiful large swimming pond, complete with beach and gazebo. My wife Stephanie and I bought the property in early 2017 and have turned it into a private horse farm, adding pastures, a riding ring, and 6-stall barn. There are ~21 horses who live on the property.
The property is unique in that you can hardly see another house from anywhere on the property and yet we are only 2 miles from
Barracks Rd. Shopping Center, and 4 miles from the University of Virginia.

When you arrive take a cooling dip in a quiet “river pool”, relax on your private beach, or see if the fish are biting.
Let your kids experience the best the river has to offer by exploring the shallows for crayfish, chasing minnows, or watching for Bald Eagles patrolling the river.
Your site is approximately 2 acres, so you will have your choice of where to pitch a tent or place your camper or trailer.

Each site has full hook ups. No tents are allowed due to lack of toilet facilities.

Welcome to Peaceful Meadows Farm. We have 250 acres for you to explore and enjoy.When you arrive you will drive up to your campground destination which is 16 acres of Loblolly Pine trees. We are only 30 minutes from Carter’s Mountain, Monticello and Jefferson Winery’s. Thistle Gate Winery is only 5 minutes away and 20 minutes to Scottsville were you can enjoy the James River. UVA sports complex is only 30 minutes away and you’re able to go the back way in to skip the gridlock of the traffic.

The recreational draw to this area is hard to beat in VA, and this property has it all for an amazing outdoor weekend! The ranch comprises 40 acres of lowland acreage designated for the camp, including a 5-acre lake.
The Cedar Grove sites 1, 2, and 3 are along the banks of Passage Creek located within a sparse, groomed Cedar grove. They are all a short walk (or drive) to the lake and beach amenities. Each site has varying access to the creek, so check out the site details. These sites are extra large and can accommodate multiple family groups, as well as, travel trailers of all sizes up to off-road motorcoaches in site 1. There are no hookups, so just boondocking. Pack it in, Pack it out. Generators are allowed but please be aware of the other sites and direct the noise away.
The Lakeside Mountain Stream site is very secluded, nestled between the mountains and the lake. It overlooks our 5-acre lake with mountain views in the background. It's on the opposite side of the lake from the Cedar Sites. This site has its own dock and is just a short walk down a mowed trail to a beautiful section of Passage Creek. An additional seasonal mountain stream can cascade behind the site and run under it to feed the lake when the conditions are right. It's a delicate site, so the accommodations and group size is strictly limited.

Locally, the North end of Fort Valley offers many great hiking trails, trout fishing, rock climbing, horseback riding, and the Elizabeth Furnace day-use park. This is an amazing camp site. I should probably write out a bunch of bad things so people don’t come here but my goodness is this site awesome.
180° surrounded by a small river, large hills and rock outcroppings face one half while the other half is forested farm lands. The campsites to your left and right are far enough away that you don’t have to worry about other people being in your business. I car camped here during the snow storm of 01/2026 so the river was frozen over but I’m sure there are rock bass or even trout. Great spot… highly recommend… definitely coming back in the spring to try some fly fishing!

This is such an amazing spot to relax and camp at. Each site is spaced out nicely. Level gravel parking which is great if you’re in a camper van like we use. So nice to have a heated bathhouse when it’s freezing out too. I’d love to come back in the warmer months to see everything filled in.

My wife and I loved our stay. The host was very hospitable and very accommodating. We were greeted immediately upon arrival and shown a well detailed tour of the property. The property was very well maintained and visually appealing. We were provided a wheel barrel full of fire logs and use of wheel rim for a camp fire (10$ when booked). The views for sunset and sunrise were stunning. We had total peace and quiet during our stay. We will be back in the spring to try our hand at fishing off the dock. Perfection.

Alright y'all, kind of a long review here, but let me get ahead and say, the site was well taken care of with table and benches available along with a Adirondack chairs and a firepit. There is an awesome stream right next to the site and a short trail nearby with access to a swimming /watering hole. The owners of the property were incredibly welcoming and kind; and asked if I needed anything!
Bring a camera and tripod for milky way photography at night....without the moon, I could see EVERY STAR.
I would absolutely recommend going here if you want to detach from modern life. There is absolutely zero cellphone reception, so plan accordingly. (Download your driving directions!) This wonderful site gave me a chance to detach and catch up on a few books.
The owners are pet friendly, and allowed me to have my pup off leash, but she is well trained and was with me the whole time.
Ten out of ten, would recommend.

This campsite's location is great if you need a place to stay near the city. The campsite itself was spacious and relatively quiet. Unfortunately, one of the days was very rainy-- our tent flooded and we found it difficult leaving the muddy driveway. All in all, would use again, as long as, there is no precipitation in the forecast.

This was an amazing little spot to camp! The water flowing right beside the campsite and the view of sharp top were absolutely stunning! It was nice to be able to order a bundle of wood at the site ready for our arrival. The bathroom was very clean and had a shower as well as washer and dryer. Chris was very quick to respond to questions. 10/10 highly recommended and will visit again!

Graham was an excellent host and all 4 sites here are beautiful! We stayed at site 2 but since no one else was on site we were able to walk the rest of them too.
Site 2 is definitely the largest and most wide-open for multiple tents, we had 4, 6-person tents.
Graham communicated, brought firewood down twice for us, and all in all we felt like we were the only ones out there!
Beautiful spot and will definitely be returning!

Susan was quick to respond for confirming the booking. This was my second stay at Peace Hill and I had a wonderful time. I stayed at Site 3 and it is very flat and close to the Lafayette Hall where there are bathrooms with showers and a kitchen. The site faces the owners main house and horse ring. If you want more privacy, pick the sites on the other side of the Lafayette Hall. I loved walking the property and visiting the farm animals!

After a very tough drive, we managed to get in way way late. Isabella's offered an encouraging note on our way suggesting how nice it would be to have breakfast by the stream.
Definitely worth the drive- great place to recoup and the puppy insisted it is her favorite place!

Absolutely loved the place, we did a winter camping on site 1. There are total of 4 sites, initially used the directions from the app which actually is misleading, so please update it, use the address and instruction from the owner. Will be a beautiful place, it’s primitive camping, would be a great upgrade to put some toilet facilities. Will be definitely going back in spring to experience the river.
