Situated at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains and bordering the Jefferson National Forest, Thunder BRidge has scenic, large, private tent sites and cabins in the woods for those who want to experience camping at its finest. Many of the sites border Elk Creek. Our RV sites are large, flat and at the edge of the forest in a well kept open green space. Our 100 acres was originally a camp built by the Civilian Conservation Corp in the "30s and early '40s, then a boys' juvenile detention center and Big Brothers'/Big Sisters' camp, which closed in 2009. The tent sites and cabins are in the forest, away from the buildings out front, but you're free to walk around and check out the historic site. Most of the buildings out front are artist studios (currently for 16 artists). We like to share the camp with others and watch it come back to life. All within a short driving distance are the Natural Bridge, wineries, breweries, Natural Bridge Zoo, Safari Park, Dinosaur Kingdom, Appalachian Trail, Blue Ridge Parkway, James River, historic Lexington, Devil's Marbleyard, Glenwood Horse Trail, swimming holes, etc. We have river access 2 miles up the road if you'd like to fish or put your kayak or canoe in. Truly, there is something nearby for everyone. We'd be happy to give you recommendations of things to see and do. If you are a star gazer you won't be disappointed by our dark sky. We want to share our property with those who want to stay for more than one night, so we do not accept inquiries of single night stays. We also don't offer longterm rentals as we focus on short term camping.

We designed Crooked Mountain to be a unique basecamp for travelers exploring the Blue Ridge Mountains, especially those traveling by van, car, motorcycle, bicycle, or with small RVs. With easy access from the Parkway and scenic mountain roads nearby, it’s a great stop for road trippers, vanlifers, and anyone on two wheels exploring Southwest Virginia. The campground currently offers 15 campsites across the farm: • 7 sites on Pine Creek (Sites 1 & 12 have electric) • 5 field campsites with open views of the surrounding hills • 3 field sites with electric near the pond (Sites 13–15) Electric sites provide 30/20 amp power only. There are no water or sewer hookups at campsites. Guests can enjoy the natural setting of the property and access our hiking trail, fishing pond (catch n release for a fee) and other amenities on the farm while staying here. Our camp store offers tourism information about Floyd and the surrounding area (including local motorcycle/bicycle maps and routes, along with artisan goods, camping essentials (things you may have forgotten), snacks, drinks, coffee, ice, firewood and more. There is now a policy of no outside pets allowed. If you have an outstanding reservation including a pet and need to cancel you'll be given a full refund. This is an active 55-acre horse farm. About 2/3rds of the property is developed with barns and fenced pastures and the other third is largely undeveloped areas with a loop driveway where most of the camp sites are located. There is a large white house at the far end of the property. The restroom for campers to use is located there. To one side of the driveway, on the way to the house there is a beautiful large swimming pond, complete with beach and gazebo. The property is unique in that you can hardly see another house from anywhere on the property and yet we are only 2 miles from Barracks Rd. Shopping Center, and 4 miles from the University of Virginia.

Learn more about this land: Located 5 miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway and Appalachian trail is a small camping area with a bathhouse that includes a toilet and hot shower. A mountain stream rushes through the campground providing a peaceful and tranquil stay. During the months of November through May I can stock the stream with rainbow trout during your stay. Book a stocking through the hipcamp app experiences for for $55 a day 6 fish limit. Outside enjoy a shady relaxing nap next to the stream. It was built for fishing so it’s not safe to swim due to structures under the water for the fish. We are only 30 minutes from Carter’s Mountain, Monticello and Jefferson Winery’s. Thistle Gate Winery is only 5 minutes away and 20 minutes to Scottsville were you can enjoy the James River. UVA sports complex is only 30 minutes away and you’re able to go the back way in to skip the gridlock of the traffic. Camp Cove Creek is located in rural Faber, Virginia which is 20 minutes from Charlottesville in beautiful Nelson County. In addition to the many natural features like the Blue Ridge Parkway, Appalachian Trail and the James River, Nelson is home to Wintergreen Resort and Oakridge Estate and hosts events such as the Lok'n Festival, Camp Jeep, and Overland Expo. Camp Cove Creek was part of my grandparent's Waveland Farm. Originally situated on over 600 acres, the brick antebellum house across the hill was used as a hospital in the Civil War. The camp used to be a horse and cattle farm as well as a flea market and airport with grass airstrip when my mom owned the land. Our vegetable garden was by the swimming hole. The airstrip still maintained as such in order to offer aviation-accessible camping. It is s the future home of Faber Christmas tree farm and features several notable antique vehicles rusting in peace. Some models are of the same make and model featured on TV and film. Camp Cove Creek is easily accessible via Rt 29 and Rt 6 east (Irish Road). Our property sits at the confluence of Bear and Cove Creeks where wading/hiking/tubing is permitted and encouraged (with water shoes). We are continually trying to improve the site by removing old barbed wire, poison ivy, roadside trash, and invasive plant species in addition to planting Christmas Trees, raising 3 kids, and working 2 full time jobs so please forgive our works in progress! This is your 30-acre camping playground! Licensed off-road vehicles, ADV and Dual-sport motorcycles, horses, personal electric vehicles and EVEN PRIVATE PLANES are welcomed! Camp anywhere along it or the creeks bordering it. We encourage walking the route first as it has intentionally been left primitive to provide more of an authentic and fun getaway adventure. Overlanding does tend to scratch paint so enter at your own risk! There is a Volleyball Net and Horseshoe set for use as well. Nearby in the soapstone mining town of Schuyler you can visit the home place of Earl Hamner, best known for his creation of The Waltons TV show. While you're there check out the Waltons Mountain Museum, which happens to be my old elementary school and my parent's former high school. The Rockfish River dam and quarry gardens are really cool too!

It was a beautiful site! The view of the river and mountains would make an awesome panoramic jigsaw puzzle. Only 6 RV sites, each with electric, water, and sewer. Sites are large and gravel paved. No showers or bathrooms other than what you bring with you. No Wi-Fi and no apparent trash facility. (Not deal killers for me.) It is off the beaten path, but easy enough to find if you follow the yellow signs and take it slow.

Hidden gem right outside Shenandoah! We stayed in a full hook-up RV site with our travel trailer and had a fantastic experience. South River Farm Campground is small, super well-kept, and wonderfully peaceful. The river access is a major highlight—they even provided a few chairs so you can sit right in the water! We bought some tubes and spent the day in the river. On top of that, it’s only a 5-minute drive to the Front Royal entrance of Shenandoah National Park, making it super easy to jump on Skyline Drive and hit the trails for a couple of hikes. Highly recommend!

We had an excellent time RV camping here. We met up with family who booked a campsite right next to us and it was absolutely perfect. It’s not too crowded, you have plenty of room for activity and to enjoy yourself. They provide a fire ring every other lot. Luckily we were able to share with our family members, but you may need to share with other people next to you. Great way to make new friends! The campsite was very well kept up and clean. There is a river that runs alongside the campground with river access for tubing and fishing. It was also very close to Shenandoah national Park, which was our favorite part. One of the entrances was only about 10 minutes away and had excellent hikes and endless beauty. Both the campsite and National Park allow dogs, so nice!!! My dog had the time of her life. Would absolutely recommend staying here.

The location was perfect for us to go to the Dickey ridge entrance of the national park. The river was so beautiful, we spent a full day birdwatching seeing great blue herons, osprey, and northern flickers. Every site has a wonderful view, especially of the stars at night. We had a very nice interaction with both the groundskeeper and Sean’s dad. Everything there is very well cleaned and taken care of. It was not very buggy at all at the end of August/beginning of September, helped in part by many beautiful dragon flies around the river. Great experience ! We will go back again

The campground itself is calming, a river flows through it, there is pasture land and trees. The campground has a secure dog run, it’s great to take our 2 dogs off their leashes for a few minutes when we use it. The bathroom and showers are very clean. The hosts are very nice and accommodating. This is our second stay there and there will be more stays.

Early morning you can see why they call them the Smoky Mountains with the mist hugging the trees on the mountain sides and valleys. The site has enough space for our 2 pups to stretch their legs. Firewood was a bonus and hookups to RV all worked great.

Really enjoyed camping here. The river access was great and it is very close to Front Royal entrance station as well as Skyline caverns and River tubing.
