Willoughby Farm Animal Rescue

9 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents107 acres · Fairlee, VT
We are a 107-acre forest and farm animal rescue. Sleep with the sheep, alpacas, donkeys, potbellied pigs, and rabbits when you pitch your tent or park your camper on our Vermont Farm! Reserve the group site and sleep in the middle of the action! (You do not need a "group" to reserve the group site -- it is just our biggest site and can accommodate groups!). Co-located in the open, grassy area with the free-roaming farm rescues is our RV site. Co-located sites share a community fire ring, so it's a great way to meet and make new friends! Don't have a tent or RV? Spend a magical night in "The Greenhouse" (it's a real, working greenhouse that doubles as accommodations for those looking for a more "glamping" experience). Want a little privacy? Reserve one of our two tricked-out Tent Deck sites (Buddha North and Grandmother Pine), each with its own picnic table, private fire ring, and commercial-grade park grill. Nestled discretely in the forest adjacent to the area where the animals are, you will feel like you are in the middle of nowhere even though you are less than a 5-minute walk from your car! Looking for something a bit more remote and spectacular? Hike a half-mile to the Big Sky Tent Deck. An incredible vista awaits you for a little effort! Need gear? We have it for rent, from cast iron grill baskets and griddles to make cooking over a charcoal grill or fire a breeze to tents to 1- and 2- burner propane stoves to tarps to water containers. We even have an Anker Portable Power Station and Portable Kerosene Heater for rent! Need Supplies? Charcoal? Propane? We've got it. ----- We are a small non-profit (501c3). When you stay with us, rent equipment from us, or take a tour with us, 100% of the money you pay goes directly for the care and feeding of the rescue animals. Thanks for supporting us in making a difference in the lives of neglected, abused, and abandoned farm animals! ----- IMPORTANT: MAY 24-26 2024 IS OUR VOLUNTEER WEEKEND AT THE RESCUE. LOTS OF PEOPLE, LOTS OF ACTION, LOTS OF FUN, LOTS OF POOP SHOVELLING AND MORE . ----- CHECK-IN TIME: 3:00 p.m.—7:00 p.m. Please arrive within this time window. If absolutely necessary, you may purchase a check-in extension for $15 in advance or $30 on arrival.

The Center Farm

1 site · Lodging142 acres · Hardwick, VT
This land is a very special place. The energy is calming and you will feel at peace with yourself after just a short time walking through the woods. This property was first purchased by my great grandfather in 1919. I was fortunate to be able to purchase it from my father in 2007. Much work was done to bring it back from being neglected and overgrown. The original buildings burned to the ground in 1948 and the property has been rebuilt over the last dozen years. It is a work in progress but also a labor of love. Enjoy a stay in this small rustic cabin. Experience peace and solitude while enjoying magnificent views atop forested hills offering stunning southeast views that overlook Vermont's central mountain ranges. The site is secluded and private and is ideally situated to view wildlife, allowing one to experience the outdoors away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. WiFi is available at the barn should there be the need to reconnect with the world at large. Two guests sleep comfortably in the cabin; four would be a little tight but manageable - there is ample room for tents if need be. The 8' x 8' cabin has one set of twin bunkbeds (bedding is not provided) and an 8' x 4' covered porch. In the colder seasons there is a propane Buddy Heater available to keep the cabin cozy. The outhouse with a composting toilet is situated close to the cabin. There is a fire ring on the stone patio with a cooking grate available for grilling. Pre-purchased firewood will be at the cabin, ready for your arrival. Additional wood is available for purchase on the way up to the cabin. Recently added is a portable kitchen, set up outside for an easier cooking experience as well as a wash bin for dishes. Items available at the site: Water for dishes Cast iron pan for grilling/grate cooking Small pots with covers (multiple) Pizza pan for grilling/grate cooking Basic grilling utensils (spatula, tongs) Serving spoon(s) Various eating utensils/knives Cups/plates/bowls Dish soap & cloths Heat-resistant gloves (for grates) Small propane grill First aid kit & fire extinguisher The main property is located in the heart of a rural farming community between the town of Greensboro (home of Caspian Lake), and the village of Hardwick. It offers 3 - 4 miles of groomed, wooded trails, ideal for walking, hiking, mountain and fat biking, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. The cabin is also in close proximity to Hill Farmstead Brewery (7 miles), The Highland Center for the Arts (3 miles) and the Willey's Store (3.5 miles). The village of Hardwick (3 miles) offers local shops, markets, restaurants, Buffalo Mountain Co-op and Front Seat Coffee (an artisan coffee house also offering free WiFi). 13 miles from the town of Craftsbury and the Craftsbury Outdoor Center, an olympic-style sport training facility catering to all ability levels. Additionally the central location offers access to many of Vermont's State Parks (Green River Reservoir State Park, Elmore State Park, Groton State Park, Crystal Lake State Park, Willoughby State Forest, Brighton State Park, just to name a few) offering daily access for hiking, fishing, swimming, paddle-boarding, canoeing and kayaking.

SiloSide Barn and Homestead

2 sites · Lodging, Tents10 acres · Barnet, VT
The SiloSide barn and homestead is better known around town as the "Old Somers Farm" in reference to the day when the barn housed 60 head of cows. The farm was a part of the Cabot Creamery Cooperative, and closed this era in the late 1980s. Prior to being a dairy farm consisting of over 500 acres, the property served as a tavern, inn, tannery, and has always been a traditional, well-loved farmhouse. Our farmhouse was built in 1785, and the barn built around the 1830s and expanded in 1941. The soil here is rich, and the forest full of wildlife. We've named our home "SiloSide" as tribute to the magic we feel on the non-road facing, silo-side of the barn, where you'll be camping.

Orchard House at Peck Farm

5 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents5 acres · East Montpelier, VT
The Orchard House at Peck Farm Orchard is the building where we serve our customers during our orchard season September through October. The property is located on a dirt road in rural Vermont and is surrounded by conserved land in current farm use. Please note: This property has been repurposed for the very special event of the full eclipse April 8th, 2024. Travel and weather in Vermont in April can be like summer, like winter, something in between and all of it in one day. Please pack and plan accordingly. Spring(March-May) travel can be very muddy. The building is made of rough cut wood from our farm property and features a cook stove, power, refrigerator and access to an outdoor fire circle. The floor is concrete so an air mattress or better yet a cot is recommended. Is you plan on using the wood cook stove please let us know. While the cookstove can provide some heat and the ability to cook it does not heat the whole building very well. There are outlets for use in the building. There is one string of plug in lights, no other lighting is installed. A traditional outhouse is located just 50 yards from the Orchard House. Drinkable well water is available upon request with 24 hours notice. 2 miles from the Orchard House is a small cooperative country store with food supplies. The Peck Farm Orchard is located on a beautiful 4 mile loop frequently used by runners and walkers. There is easy access to local hiking trails and snowmobile/skiing trails. The orchard and parking area is located on 18 acres with access to trails spanning more than a thousand acres.

Lavender Essentials of Vermont

68 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents12 acres · Derby, VT
Pierre Capron and Michele Judd started the lavender farm in the spring of 2017. Both Michele and Pierre grew up on dairy farms in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont, and are proud to be the next generation of farmers, working the same land as Michele’s grandparents once did. We are a multi-generational farm family, hoping to develop a successful business that can one day be passed onto our children. Learn more about this land: Imagine camping at a romantic lavender farm at the top of Vermont. Lavender Essentials of Vermont sits on top of a 1,600' hill in the quaint little town of Derby, Vermont. Nestled in a hillside meadow, the campsites are only a short walk from the lavender fields and 360' of breathtaking views. You will want to bring your camera! Stay with us at our farm, and take in the quaint, picturesque countryside. We offer a peaceful site, away from it all, to relax and experience Vermont. In the meadows you can pick wild flowers, take an afternoon nap, wander the trails, bird watch, or listen to frogs and catch fireflies in the evening. At night you will be amazed at the star filled sky! Day or night it's hard to deny the peaceful and romantic feeling you get from the lavender farm! The farm has a Lavender Labyrinth, fields of sunflowers, chamomile, mint (and other herbs and vegetables), bees, informational placards along walking trails, cozy private seating, a gazebo for special events, a hidden geocache, and even a gift shop! There are lots of things to see and do on the farm. Especially during bloom season—June-September. Check out our event calendar and follow us on Facebook to stay up to date on what's happening at the farm (Lavender-Essentials.com). Whether it’s nature or culture you seek, peace or thrills, this unique area of the Northeast Kingdom offers something for everyone! Your hosts, Michele and Pierre, are locals and they know all the best and unadvertised places to explore. Ask them about local dives and even haunted hikes. Just 30 minutes away is one of the best bike parks in New England, Kingdom Trails in Burke.  Also nearby is Jay Peak, a ski resort with an indoor water park, golf course, ice arena, climbing walls, and much more! The farm is located just 2 miles from the Canadian border. Magog, Sherbrooke, and Montreal offer a taste of international cultural that will appease your Quebecois desires! If you plan to visit Canada while you are here, remember you must have your passport!  Stay at one of the most beautiful places on earth, and allow us to help you find peace and tranquility, or we can be your personal adventure guide! We go out of our way to provide you with a memorable stay, and do our best to facilitate the kind of vacation you are looking for!  We love dogs, but we must insist dogs be kept on a leash at all times. Dogs are not allowed in the farm's fields because we grow culinary grade crops and must protect them. All dog waste must be cleaned immediately and is restricted to designated pet rest areas. Owners will be held responsible for any damages. Please keep your campsite clean.  Fires are allowed, as long as winds are not strong. Our weather can be breezy, and exposed at times, so pack according. Bring a sweater and a kite! There's a reason we have a 140ft wind turbine.
