NO FISHING As our topo map shows we have a wide variety of terrain ranging from steep cliffs with huge views to shady canyons. The river cuts through the middle of the place and is surrounded by four hills that each have their unique characteristics ranging from flat oak-covered to rocky steep ridges. I guarantee you will find beauty all around. We do have a couple of fun areas to try your 4-wheel drive out. Please dont make your own....stay on trails. There are plenty of places to swim. When the Ladder is reserved, you may not swim there. Please be respectful. We have 1.5 miles of both sides of the river so plenty of places to swim. It varies a lot in depth and width over the ranch. Every camp spot has access to all the swimming holes except the ladder when it is booked. The main swimming holes are-- 1. Below the Green Cabin 2. Choose from camping in the valleys with tents or stay in our 6-room lodge, which features beds for 4 to 2 people, one shower, two bathrooms, and an outdoor kitchen. Please remember to bring bottled water for drinking and cooking, as we are off-grid in the higher elevations. Cool off in our large cistern converted into a swimming pool, or simply take in the breathtaking views. From the Southwest, you can admire the Sierra Madre mountains in Mexico and catch a glimpse of the silhouette of the laying lady on clear days. At night, marvel at the lights of Del Rio, located 37 miles away, and enjoy unparalleled stargazing opportunities. While we're off-grid in the higher elevations, phone service is available for AT&T and T-Mobile users. Fernweh Hideaway

Fernweh means "a longing for distant places, a yearning for travel." My place in the Hill Country welcomes and satisfies that yearning for getting away and losing oneself in nature. The sunrises are spectacular and watching the deer, birds, rabbits, and other fauna is fun. It's a beautiful place for relaxing and star gazing at night. There are no bathrooms. You must bring camping toilets and take out your trash. If there isn't a burn ban, you may use the fire pits we provide. The grounds are perfect for tent camping. Our property is right off Hwy 16 eight miles to downtown Kerrville and the Guadalupe River, 34 miles to Fredericksburg, 15 miles to Medina, and 29 miles to Bandera, TX. During May 26 to June 12, you are one tenth of a mile from the Kerrville Folklife Festival. Consider this a stopping and resting point between your adventures in the Hill Country! Only tents are allowed. No pets and only adults, please. Mostly flat terrain. Dry ground January-March and pretty lush during April-June.

Boulderdash is quite amazing! We usually camp in tent campsites because we have a tiny camper, and we don't like to be among huge RVs. Boulderdash is a quite small campground but the design is great and RVs do not face each other and are not lined up, so everybody has privacy. We stayed for the first two nights in the RV site 3, and for the last night we moved to tent site 1 by the river. The tent campsites are the best for who likes nature. While they don't have water or power at the campsite itself, they have a great outdoor washing area with potable water, electricity and a picnic table. There's a port-a-potty besides the bathrooms on the hilltop. Our campsite had a fire ring, a grill, a great picnic table, and you're steps from the river. Water was pretty low but it was running because there are some springs that feed into it. Everything at Boulderdash is well thought out, the bathrooms are super clean and cute, shower is FANTASTIC! Every picnic table has a flower arrangement and a jar of corn to feed the deer, and a small shop. Wi-fi made camping bearable to our teenage daughter. Also fantastic are the hosts: Carole-Anne is super friendly, and received us with a pumpkin bread that she baked to all campers who were there on thanksgiving. That really set the tone right. She was super accommodating to our requests, and is just an overall nice person. Their dogs and cats are super sweet, as are the deer that come every day to get sone corn. We had a wonderful time!

James's wild bill’s cabin was real cozy. The star gazing was great and so was watching some of the wildlife grazing around the property. Speaking of grazing their pizzas are delicious overall it was a great experience would definitely recommend staying overnight!

Leann's land is in a remote, beautiful part of Hill Country --we were the only people camping on the property so it was extra quiet and peaceful. My 9 year old roamed the property with his trusty map and felt like a true explorer. The campground is close to Garner State Park and about a half hour from Lost Maples.

I’m actually kind of upset that I’m gonna leave such a good review because I don’t want this place to get super popular. But the amenities were awesome! Highly recommend!!

This place was seriously amazing! We did a tent spot. But the bathrooms were perfectly clean, the shared spaces were awesome especially the commercial kitchen has everything you could possibly need. Defiantly worth the stay for us because we were doing across country, so the hot clean shower was amazing. The host was very responsive and friendly. It was about an hour and 20 mins outside of San Antonio where we were visiting the Missions. We were able to pack our tent make some hot coffee and take hot showers and be at the Missions by 9. If we weren't just passing through and could have really enjoyed the camp for all it had to offer it would have been an even better stay. It was nicely lit and the instructions leading to were precise. My husband and I were able to walk around the property, and it was really fun and pretty.

Weekend Trip to Grapevine Springs Retreat

Had my son's boy scout patrol campout there this past weekend and had an amazing time. Wilson could not have been more hospitable and went above and beyond to make it a campout everyone would remember. He even guided us on a ~3 mile hike of the ranch and brought a friend with him to help the boys learn some new knots. The ranch is absolutely gorgeous and our campsite was perfect, nestled among a canopy of trees by a dry creekbed. Could not recommend this place any more, we will definitely be back.

LAF Ranch felt like a little hidden gem of Texas. My wife and I ventured out here for a night. We had planned to go to Lost Maples to see the fall colors but decided not to go after seeing the beautiful bald cypress trees by the creek at LAF Ranch. The colors were stunning and the weather was beautiful, we had the whole Big Open campsite to ourselves so it felt like our own little oasis. Thanks to Fritz for providing access to such a wonderful location, and for being such a pleasant host! We’ll definitely be back!
