The Ranch is our place we like to go when we need to get away. It's raw and it's nice land to camp, explore and enjoy wildlife. We have a Wildlife Exemption on the property and enjoy managing native song birds. We keep a constant flow of bird seed located in feeders around the ranch, and we have seen all kinds of birds making this a great place for birders. The ranch has nice elevation changes with a wet weather creek that traverses the property. There are some trails to hike or mountain bike. The cabin is rustic without plumbing or electricity, but we enjoy it and it's fun to think it's everything we would need. This is off-grid living all the way, and we are constantly learning new and better ways to do things.
The cabin is located on the very first spot we pitched a tent after purchasing the land, and we continue to make improvements as we go. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

A Texas Hill Country ranch with uncrowded “primitive” campsites about 8 miles from Fredericksburg and about 12 miles from Enchanted Rock. There is no running water, no electricity and no WiFi at the campsite. There is a picnic table, some chairs, a fire ring with some firewood and a portable toilet. This site is suited to tent camping, car camping and small RV "dry camping". There is relative privacy, hopefully starry nights and campfire provisions. Guests share a pasture with livestock and wildlife.
Weather in all its variations is part of camping. If you are not prepared to deal with whatever the weather may be, you should consider another option. We encourage guests to research this destination before booking, carefully review our cancellation policy, and consider buying travel insurance to protect against unexpected travel disruptions. We have neighbors, and although the place is relatively large, and we don't anticipate a problem, there is no guarantee that you will not be bothered by some kind of noise. Observe quiet time after 9 pm and before 8 am.
The country roads in this area are paved and they are excellent for walking, bicycling and driving. There are “cattle guards” in the roadways. Cattle guards are steel pipe obstacles along a road intended to prevent livestock, such as sheep and cattle from passing out of a fenced area.

About 2 miles as a crow flies from Lost Maples State Park. You drive through a 13,000-acre ranch to get to us. We are at the end of a dead-end road with one way in and one way out.
NO FISHING
As our topo map shows we have a wide variety of terrain ranging from steep cliffs with huge views to shady canyons. The river cuts through the middle of the place and is surrounded by four hills that each have their unique characteristics ranging from flat oak-covered to rocky steep ridges. I guarantee you will find beauty all around.
We do have a couple of fun areas to try your 4-wheel drive out. Please dont make your own....stay on trails.
There are plenty of places to swim. When the Ladder is reserved, you may not swim there. Please be respectful.
We have 1.5 miles of both sides of the river so plenty of places to swim. It varies a lot in depth and width over the ranch.
Every camp spot has access to all the swimming holes except the ladder when it is booked. The main swimming holes are--

This is a living memorial to the 36th president of the United States. This is the home of the Texas White House, so named because Lyndon B. Johnson spent 20 percent of his presidency there. When the weight of the office became too much to bear, he retreated to this ranch to escape the rigors of Washington.
You and your family have plenty of things to do here to escape the rigors of your own lives. Johnson's boyhood home contains artifacts from his childhood, including a baseball glove and ball. The president loved cars. You can view a 1915 fire truck, 1934 Ford Phaeton and a rare Amphicar, a car designed to travel on land and water. He also owned a Jolly 500 Ghia, a gift from the owner of Fiat. There's even that era's Air Force One, the plane Johnson used to get to the ranch.Pets are allowed. A Texas Hill Country ranch with uncrowded “primitive” campsites about 8 miles from Fredericksburg and about 12 miles from Enchanted Rock. There is no running water, no electricity and no WiFi at the campsite. There is a picnic table, some chairs, a fire ring with some firewood and a portable toilet. This site is suited to tent camping, car camping and small RV "dry camping". There is relative privacy, hopefully starry nights and campfire provisions. Guests share a pasture with livestock and wildlife.

We have neighbors, and although the place is relatively large, and we don't anticipate a problem, there is no guarantee that you will not be bothered by some kind of noise. Likewise, we don’t want our neighbors bothered by any noise coming from you. People live out in the country to enjoy separation of space. Please be considerate of others and keep noise to a minimum. Observe quiet time after 9 pm and before 8 am.
The country roads in this area are paved and they are excellent for walking, bicycling and driving. There are “cattle guards” in the roadways. Cattle guards are steel pipe obstacles along a road intended to prevent livestock, such as sheep and cattle from passing out of a fenced area.
If you book this property you will be able to check yourself in at the property. The specific location and other check in details will be provided to you on the day of your scheduled arrival, and after housekeeping and campsite make-ready is complete.

About 2 miles as a crow flies from Lost Maples State Park. You drive through a 13,000-acre ranch to get to us. We are at the end of a dead-end road with one way in and one way out.
NO FISHING
As our topo map shows we have a wide variety of terrain ranging from steep cliffs with huge views to shady canyons. The river cuts through the middle of the place and is surrounded by four hills that each have their unique characteristics ranging from flat oak-covered to rocky steep ridges. I guarantee you will find beauty all around.
We do have a couple of fun areas to try your 4-wheel drive out. Please dont make your own....stay on trails.
There are plenty of places to swim. When the Ladder is reserved, you may not swim there. Please be respectful.
We have 1.5 miles of both sides of the river so plenty of places to swim. It varies a lot in depth and width over the ranch.
Every camp spot has access to all the swimming holes except the ladder when it is booked. The main swimming holes are--

2. Another my brother likes that has a cypress tree submerged you can sit on he calls the 1000 waterfalls

We tent camped, i would say if you come after a rain like we did, be careful on the road to the tent camping area as we had a Subaru forester that still slid around quite a bit in the mud. Overall I’d definitely recommend the spot, especially to tent campers who want to get away from everyone else while still having good amenities

This spot is absolutely amazing! The pond site is beautiful, very private, and quiet. I drove in with a RTT on my 4runner and made it easily to the property with plenty of room to set up. The written directions were spot on and Fritz was very welcoming upon arrival. Plenty of great views to hike around and see as well. I’ll definitely be back!

This was truly a remote spot that felt like you were nowhere near civilization although it was only a 1.5 hour drive from Helotes. We loved the views, river crossings, and hiking. It was so nice to be able to let our small dogs hike with us off leash- and feel so safe! The campsite was clean and had a picnic table as well as great trees to hang your hammock. Communication with host was punctual and friendly. We will definitely be back and try out different spots on the property.

I LOVED staying at the A frame cabins (#7) on Sarah’s land! The Charmadillo was beautifully kept and the amenities were fantastic!!
Everything you could need for camping was included with our stay, including a well stocked industrial kitchen and firewood for a campfire. We cooked all meals there during our stay, and I throughly enjoyed every moment. The view from the kitchen was beautiful.
I also especially enjoyed the sauna, it stayed on from sunset to midnight. The cold weather in February made all the warmth feel amazing. We had the sauna to ourselves during the stay and it felt cozy and romantic.
The outhouse bathroom and shower rooms were clean, air conditioned, and meticulously designed. I enjoyed all the attention to detail, like a pleasant tobacco woodsy oil diffuser and eucalyptus in the bathrooms.
My two pups also enjoyed exploring the property. There is a big field out by the tent sites that was fun to run around in. The whole property has so many spots to relax in.
I visited for my birthday and I think I might make it a yearly trip, this was one of the best camping (“glamping”) experiences I’ve ever had. I am definitely recommending this place to my friends!

Loved the rustic cabin I can tell a lot of work and care went into this location. I wondered around the land for several hours to look at all the plant and wildlife and was not disappointed. The donkey’s were curious about me as a visitor but quickly lost interest and meandered away when they found out I didn’t have any approved treats for them. I had a wonderful time of rest and disconnection from society.
