VISIT POPEYE:
Crystal City is the “World Spinach Capital”. On March 26, 1937, Crystal City erected a Statue to pay tribute to Popeye which was sanctioned by the creator of Popeye, E. C. Segar. To show his appreciation, Segar drew a special cartoon with Popeye, Olive Oyl and Wimpy coming to the Crystal City Spinach Festival.

This Museum is dedicated in preserving Crystal City Stories. (1) 1969 Student Walkout. (2) WWII Family Interment Camp. (3) Zavala County Local Veterans Wall.
VISIT OUR HISTORICAL MARKER
During World War II, the United States created a system of internment camps for resident aliens from Japan as well as American citizens of Japanese descent. However, what’s not generally known is that some Germans and Italians were targeted as well. Crystal City was the site of the largest German internment camp in the nation.

Zavala County is one of the best hunting areas in the State for Whitetail, Wild Turkey, Wild Hog, Mourning & Whitewing Dove, Quail and several species of Exotics (Axis, Blackbuck & Aoudad Sheep).
