Elmlock was named by MJ's Grandfather for the majestic Elm trees that once graced the property and banks of the Tulpehocken Stream passing through the Union Canal lock. These beautiful trees were devastated by the Dutch Elm Disease in the early 20th century.
Elmlock and the surrounding area was surveyed by non other than George Washington as plans were formulating to build a canal system to join the Schuylkill and Susquehanna Rivers.
The General stayed with his friend Captain Michael Lei on the adjacent farm, once known as the Tulpehocken Manor when visiting the area. The ruins of one of the canal locks remains on the Elmlock property adjacent to the camping area.
The 1838 stone farmhouse was built by the Spengler family and acquired by MJ's Grandfather in 1913. MJ's pottery studio is a local "Town Barn" that was relocated piece by piece to Elmlock by MJ"s brother, a Historic Restoration Specialist, in 1974. He also restored the Bake Oven on the property's Summer Kitchen.
Our property features an historic canal lock from 1828 Union Canal and a stream that runs through it.
There is a RR track that runs just south of our camp about 10acres away For campers who love to watch or hear trains you'll have plenty of opportunity to do so!
You can enjoy fishing and playing in the water, which is fresh, clean limestone water from a nearby quarry. We also have two small goats on the property. Farm land surrounds the property, wooded area and cattle nearby. This is a secluded property but less than a mile from Rt 422. You can bike along the many back roads nearby!
We also offer pottery classes, drawing classes, painting classes, and also Medicinal wild plants walk etc. for an additional fee. See our extras below if you are interested!
Historic places to visit and only 20 miles from HersheyPark. Also we are only 15-20 min from the Historic Appalachian Trail! And Blue Marsh Recreational park

The camp sites on our farm are dry (for now) but we DO have a toilet that is cleaned regularly right by the sites. We have three leveled gravel RV/Camper spots, which are large compared to most campgrounds. The sites are pull through for most RVs and Trailers. We provide fire rings but no wood. Our farm is an operational farm with livestock and you will be camping right by our horse pasture. Our location is convenient. We are right off of I-81 and State route 22. Minutes from Hersheypark, Hollywood Casino and Penn National Race Course, The PA Renaissance Faire, as well as Ft. Indiantown Gap and Memorial Lake State Park. If you are a hiker, the Appalachian Trail is minutes from our farm. Our sites are easy access off the main road. We are in a friendly agricultural neighborhood with very little traffic or noise other than the light hum of I-81 in the distance. Wildlife is plentiful in our area and you can hike from our farm to Levitz Community Park (or drive if you prefer) to interact some great nature or have a picnic. The 66-acre property has been licensed as an airport (PS20) since the 1980s. It is currently an active, private airport. We don't sell fuel or offer services beyond camping so we primarily have only air traffic with few to no landings each year. In other words, it is very quiet here except during the occasional low pass. We are very eager for pilots to fly in and camp out! The beautiful sunsets and stargazing night skies are a real treat for anyone that comes to visit. Lots of deer, birds, and other wildlife can be seen out and about. The site includes a fire ring, picnic table, hammock overlooking the river and swing for kids. A natural sandbar in the river provides a fun place for children to play, and explore (and throw rocks into the river as every kid seems to love to do). Pitch your tent along Irish Creek under a canopy of Maples at Mystic Hollow. Irish Creek stream is a tributary to the Schuylkill River. The land is mostly flat for walking to camping area. Fire rings are included. There is a port-a-potty close by. If you have your own portapotty, you must take the waste with you. We have no way to dispose of human waste. Absolutely no disposing of human waste on the property or in the trash. There will be a fine. At this time, I do not have fresh water, shower or electric. I have an extension cord for charging phones, etc...
We are flexible with check-in and check-out times if we are not at full capacity. Just let us know ahead of time. We allow dogs. They must be on leashes unless they are friendly and play well with others. You must clean up your dog's poop! No exceptions! We are 5 minutes from the Schuylkill River. 10 minutes from Ontelaunee Lake. 15 minutes from Blue Marsh. 15 minutes from the Appalacian Trail. Trail heads nearby Port Clinton, Hamburg, Bernville, Bethel, Blue Rocks, Kempton... 20 minutes from Hawk Mountain. We are an hour from Jim Thorpe. There are several wineries in the area including Long Trout Winery where wine is cool and hippy chicks rule! My favorite! Lots of wildlife. Expect to hear owls, blue heron, cows, goats, chickens, hawks, eagles, dogs, racoons and coyotes. Racoons will steal food that is not put away or in coolers. Deer may walk past in the middle of the night. Hiking, kayaking, tubing, fishing, mountain biking, bike trails, etc... all nearby. Sadly there are no fish in Irish Creek worth catching. The Crayfish are!
As with any land situated along a water source, there is always a possibility of flooding. We flood maybe once a year, once every other year. If that should happen, we will assist in hauling gear. There is higher ground for tents to be set up if need be. There will also be rooms available to rent in the near future.

The hosts were so nice! The treehouse was super cool. Very clean and the cots were super comfy. The treehouse was super cute too with the fairy lights on at night. Took my little dog in the creek and she got scared when I went in the swimin hole. It’s a really cool spot and gets like 5 ft deep! The directions were clear and super easy to take a wagon down the mowed path and to your site. We visited the pond too that is past tent site #2. We saw two goats near the farm. Would totally come again!!

Site 3 on Susan’s Christmas tree farm is a must-stay! The property is beautiful, with rolling hills of young trees, a perfectly maintained open field section for your campsite, and a bunch of interweaving walking trails. Our golden retriever loved racing around the trails next to our site and it was so secluded and private that it really feels like you’re all alone out there. The wash sink comes complete with a hose of non-potable water, sponge, soap, wash basin, and hand sanitizer. That was a fantastic addition which exceeded our expectations. The outhouse was as comfortable as you can get using the bathroom outside and the bag system was surprisingly easy to use. The fire pit was great and the cooking grate provided is a nice addition. Also, excellent fire wood! Everything about the site was wonderful.
We especially have to thank Susan immensely for driving up to speak with us when I accidentally lost my wedding ring. She offered to call her friend with a metal detector and search the property thoroughly for us as soon as possible. We can tell she really cares about giving her guests a good, comfortable experience and doing what she can to help them. I’m lucky to have found my ring before needing her and her friends to search around for me, but the offer and care she showed meant the world in a stressful moment. Susan’s campsites are a must if you’re in the area!!!

We had a wonderful stay at Creekside Treehouse Style Tent #1! The tent was very clean and comfortable, and I was pleasantly surprised to find cots inside. I’m used to more traditional backcountry camping, so this felt much closer to glamping. My 6-year-old daughter absolutely loved it!
The setting was beautiful and peaceful. We were lucky enough to have a good flow in the nearby creek after some rain, and the stars at night were incredible. The small LED lights around the top of the shelter and along the path to the outhouse added a really nice ambiance after dark.
I had read a few reviews mentioning noise, but that wasn’t an issue for us at all. The short walk to the site was actually a positive for me. It made the site feel more secluded and was about 5–10 minutes with a 6-year-old. The host provided carts, which made getting our belongings down to the site much easier. There was some poison ivy along the walk, but it was easy enough to avoid.
The two sites are relatively close together, but they still felt far enough apart to provide privacy. Our host was also very communicative and made sure everything was perfect for our stay.
The only downside for us was the outhouse. It was very clean and well maintained, but the seat is quite high, especially for my daughter. A small step would make it much easier to use.
Overall, we absolutely loved our stay and would happily come back. My daughter is talking about going camping in the treehouse again!

The farm has six well separated campsites for a good amount of privacy. There were great views from the top of the hill and plenty of space for our group of tents. The surrounding miles of farmland make for a quiet, peaceful surrounding.

I loved the peace and quiet staying at Scott's christmas tree farm. I arrived later than expected, but he was extremely helpful in making sure that I knew where to setup camp, and we even chatted for a few minutes upon my arrival. The spot I was in was relatively flat and made for a nice spot to setup camp. The firepit was a nice addition, and all together, made for a memorable experience. There was only one other group camping while I was there so I didn't hear anything, but the campsites seem far enough apart that noise wouldn't be an issue regardless of the number of other campers. It was a 2-3 minute walk from where I was to the front where the portapotty was located. I would recommend staying with Scott to anyone looking for a nice quiet and relaxing spot.

Memorial Lake State Park
Explore 230 acres around the southern base of Blue Mountain at Memorial Lake State Park, where campers flock to enjoy fishing for northern pike, largemouth bass, yellow perch, trout, and muskellunge. The 85-acre lake attracts boaters with space for more than 50 moorings and two dock launch ramps. Park amenities include pavilions with picnic tables (rent in advance for privacy), charcoal grills, water fountains, benches, and restrooms. There are no campsites in the park, but private RV and tent campsites are available nearby.
Swatara State Park
Backpack along the Appalachian Trail where it cuts through Swatara State Park. The park’s 3,520 acres boast scenic landscapes with views of Swatara Creek. Hike through wetlands and forests for glimpses of local wildlife or visit park highlights like historic Bordner Cabin or Akrigg Falls, which remains flowing throughout all four seasons. Area campsites are situated in the rolling fields and woodlands close to park entrances. Cabin rentals are also available.

Fish, hike, and canoe at Stoever’s Dam State Park, another popular Lebanon destination for Hipcampers. Brimming with flora and fauna, the park includes observation decks for birdwatchers as well as a 23.5-acre lake that’s stocked with trout. Other park highlights include the 125-year-old nature barn with special exhibits related to the barn and park’s history and a community theater. Look for RV parks and campsites near the park as well as within. Park amenities include pavilions, boat ramps, and restrooms.
When to go
Winter is off-season for Lebanon, but during mild weather, hikers can still be seen hitting the trails or snowmobiling. Peak camping season is summer, but spring and fall draw campers to Lebanon's outdoor attractions, too. Seasonal festivals and farmer’s markets add to Lebanon’s warm season fun. Campers can find some RV parks and campgrounds that offer year-round accommodations, but many remain open only for the warm season.
