Weekend Trip to Whimsical Studio Loft

Roshin and her partner were very friendly and generous. It was a nice change from most other accommodation experiences where they are more commercial and transactional these days. We enjoyed her really cool studio, and had access to a dedicated bathroom and common kitchen in her main house. Our pup also had an incredible amount of fun in her beautiful backyard. Absolutely loved it here!! Amy was warm and welcoming and communicated before/throughout my entire stay. The property is so beautiful and the cabin is immaculate. My pup and I stayed here after a week-long trip down the OR coast and it was the perfect place to stop for a couple days before heading back to Seattle. Will definitely be back here!

Weekend Trip to Buena Vista Lavender Farm

The tiny home was very cute and cozy! We especially loved the kitchen space. It was perfect for two people. The property was peaceful and well maintained, considering it is a working farm. The animals were all lovely to see (avoid the brown rooster though) & we saw lots of chunky tadpoles in the pond. The hosts were generous in sharing fresh blackberries, pears, apples, and grapes. We ran into a few other guests as well, who were very kind. A great place to stay for those wanting to be in nature!

Weekend Trip to Camp Colton

Incredible spot! We'll definitely return. We had a 4 year old and a 1 year old and the tiny house worked really well for us. Neal, the caretaker, and the other staff were so helpful. One even gave our son some snacks for the incredible goat at the farm. The grounds in general are extremely well taken care of and the communal bathrooms and eating areas are great. Very fun studio with art supplies and a great vibe. Cooled down nicely even on a 95 degree day, but you probably don't want to stay there if it gets over 100. Host was very kind and accomodating.

We had a lovely stay at Roshin’s loft. It’s a unique and creative space unlike any other place we’ve stayed at. We had access to the shared kitchen and a private bathroom which was nice. Roshin is very warm and welcoming.

Connie does such an excellent job with the properties on Buena Vista Lavender Farm. The views were as advertised, the home was impeccably maintained, the directions were clear, and the hospitality was superb. We stayed here at "Little Tiny" for one night on a Pacific Northwest road trip, and it was just as stunning as tent camping on the Pacific Ocean at Second Beach in Olympic National Park. Would recommend to anyone!

🌲 Peaceful Paradise in Nature 🌾 I can’t say enough good things about this tiny cabin stay! From the moment my dog and I arrived, we were greeted with the calm and serenity that only nature can offer. The cabin is nestled perfectly between wide-open fields and a quiet forest, making it the ideal escape from the hustle of everyday life. Waking up to the sounds of birdsong and sipping coffee while watching deer graze in the morning mist was something truly special. I even spotted a red tailed hawk hunting the field for its dinner! It’s clear that this land is lovingly cared for—everything feels thoughtfully placed and well-maintained, from the large fire pit to the clean and comfortable cabin itself. You can really tell the owners take pride in their work. Every little detail, from the welcoming atmosphere to the handcrafted touches inside the cabin, makes you feel right at home while still completely immersed in nature. If you’re a stargazer, bring your telescope as this has a wide open sky view! Highly recommend if you’re looking for peace, quiet, and a deep breath of fresh air. We will absolutely be back! 🌿

1 night at Buena Vista Lavender Farm

Buena Vista Lavender Farm is a beautiful place run by a caring and welcoming family. Our family of 4 stayed in "Big Tiny," an expertly appointed tiny home that was comfortable and had everything we needed. We appreciated the little extras in the kitchen (microwave popcorn, oatmeal, tea, coffee), and the things that made it feel like home (books, blankets, games). Note that one of the beds is accessed by a ladder and could be difficult for less agile guests, though I did appreciate the safety railing across that sleeping loft. Our favorite part of the stay was watching the sun set over the lavender fields, then going over to the barn to meet and pet all the farm animals. Connie and her family are gracious hosts and told us all about their resident chickens, goats, sheep, alpacas, donkey, mini horse, kittens, and dogs. Of all the places we stayed on our west coast road trip, this stay was voted #1 by my two daughters (ages 9 and 13).

Where to go

L.L. Stub Stewart State Park

A half-hour drive from Hillsboro, L.L. Stub Stewart State Park offers nearly 30 miles of trails and great night-sky views. It's popular among day trippers, who come here to hike, picnic, mountain bike, and ride horses, but plenty of people choose to stay the night in one of the on-site cabins or campsites.

The Oregon Coast

Hillsboro is a little over an hour away from the Oregon Coast via the Sunset Highway (26W), which crosses over the densely wooded Coastal Range, ultimately connecting with US 101. There are plenty of stops to stop and hike along the way, from Saddle Mountain just inland from the coast and Ecola State Park near Cannon Beach. There are also tons of state park-run campgrounds up and down the Oregon Coast, many of which offer tent and RV camping plus full hookups.

The Willamette Valley Wine Country

While Hillsboro has a few small wineries of its own, you'll find a denser concentration of wine-tasting options by heading a bit further south, either via Yamhill and Carlton on Highway 47 or by taking Highway 99W to Newberg and onwards to McMinnville. The Willamette Valley has about two-thirds of Oregon's wineries and is celebrated for its bold Pinots Noirs.

When to go

You'll get the best weather in Hillsboro if you visit between July and September, when the temperatures are generally warm and the chance of rainfall is slim. The rest of the year gets cold and rainy, and while spring and fall do get some pleasant days, it’s hard to gauge when they will be. While the area doesn’t get much snow, freezing rain is a major issue that can lead to dangerously slick roads.
