We had the best time in the forager site! The room was cozy, clean, and had everything we needed. We had a big storm come through the night of our stay and the hosts were super hospitable and brought us a backup power bank. The heater blankets on the bed were a great touch too! Kelly and Randy were so attentive and sweet!! We had such an incredible weekend and I’m so thankful they shared their space and sweet animals with us. Don’t skip out on the fresh farm egg breakfast and playing fetch with Boone. Our favorite goats were Milo and chance, special mention to lavender the chicken. This weekend was such a special memory for us and I’m thankful we spent my partners birthday here. We will be back for sure :)

This place was the perfect getaway—quiet, peaceful, and right by the river. We stayed in the geodome and loved the cozy wood-burning fireplace. The river was just a short walk away, making it easy to relax by the water. On clear nights, the star views were incredible—some of the best we’ve seen. We also appreciated having different cooking options, whether over the campfire or using the propane stove. The off-grid toilet was simple and convenient to use, and the privacy of the space allowed our dog to roam off leash, which made the trip even better. A wonderful spot for anyone looking to unplug and enjoy nature in comfort!

Kelly's Geo-dome was exactly as advertised. There were heaters inside, which we used this morning. My friend Darcy characterized it as, "better than glamping." The power shut off last night after we were already in for the night so it didn't impact us. This morning, we easily got the power back on. There were very friendly dogs and also goats with whom we didn't interact. We will definitely be back next!

We simply loved our stay at Kelly's place! Everything was incredible, from the fully-equipped dome with comfortable furniture and all the amenities, cutlery and accessories one could wish for (it even had Sonos bluetooth speaker) to the care and attention to details of the host who was so kind to bring us daily fresh farm egg breakfast, and to the extensive activities opportunities nearby - disk golf, axe throwing, soccer and more! But above all, you the views were simply astounding, with picturesque sights of the river and the plains and unbeatable sunsets

My wife and I had a fantastic time camping in the Ohm Dome! We stayed mid-week in late August, and practically had the entire area to ourselves. The site, and property, are filled with gorgeous oak trees, a fun garden, and the soothing sound of the river. Our dog, Newman, enjoyed exploring the area and playing fetch. We were provided a nice battery which powered our plug-in air mattress as well as powering lights and devices. We also had access to a near-private river beach (after a decent walk). Definitely want to stay here again!

My husband and I stayed 2 nights for our 15th wedding anniversary and it couldn't have been more perfect! The dome itself was amazing and had everything you could need. A lot of thought and effort went into it! But the cherry on top for us was the animals! Boone was there to greet us with his ball and kept watch over us our whole stay. The views are amazing day and night! We loved feeding/petting the chickens and goats too! Even had a deer hang out with us all day at camp! Just an amazing, perfect experience all around! My family and I really enjoyed our time in the ohm dome. Such a lovely spot and an easy walk to a perfect small sandy beach. The composting toilets were in good shape and we appreciated the water for dishwashing. My nephew had fun building fires and testing out the acoustics! No joke about needing AWD getting in, but that was part of the adventure.

We LOVED the dome and our own little secret campground hidden off the side of Dom’s place. Our hosts were extremely friendly and helpful. When you set foot inside the secret garden, it feels like you’re deep in the woods somewhere, when in reality you are living the best of both worlds with a perfect campsite that is IN Portland. You can switch seamlessly between relaxing in nature off grid and then go down the road to enjoy city life. Not to mention you get to stay in a very cool dome with a clear paneled half that makes for some good stargazing. A true hidden gem!

Kelly’s place was the perfect escape for a 2-night getaway! It was our first time camping with our two kids, and this spot was the ideal introduction — a comfortable mix between a tent and a cozy tiny home. The Dome had everything we needed for a short stay, and the views were absolutely stunning. Kelly was incredibly kind and responsive, always making sure we had what we needed. Our kids especially loved playing with Boone (the friendly host dog), feeding the goats, and the chickens — such a fun experience for them! Even though the host’s home is visible, the site still felt private and welcoming. We also recommend checking out the Port of Kalama and Horseshoe Lake while you’re in the area. Would absolutely stay again!

We loved our stay in the dome on Goode Time Ranch — it’s such a unique and special place. Kelly was an incredibly kind and thoughtful host who went out of her way to connect with us and our 6-year-old daughter. She even taught her how to gently pick up and hold chickens, which quickly became the highlight of the trip! The dome itself is beautiful and super comfortable. Our family of 3 got an amazing night's sleep. In the morning, Kelly made us a delicious fresh egg breakfast that was such a lovely touch. We also enjoyed exploring the forest walk and playing endless rounds of fetch with their sweet dog Boone. We were honestly sad we had only booked one night and can’t wait to come back for a longer stay. This place truly feels like a little slice of heaven. As our daughter was falling asleep, she said, “This was a really good day.” We couldn’t agree more. ❤️

10/10, I would definitely stay here again and recommend to anybody looking for a nice get away or just needing a place to hunker down when passing through Portland. Clean, perfect location, lots of local food and night life, and Dom & Ruby are great hosts. Check it out if you get the chance!

Where to go

L.L. Stub Stewart State Park

A half-hour drive from Hillsboro, L.L. Stub Stewart State Park offers nearly 30 miles of trails and great night-sky views. It's popular among day trippers, who come here to hike, picnic, mountain bike, and ride horses, but plenty of people choose to stay the night in one of the on-site cabins or campsites.

The Oregon Coast

Hillsboro is a little over an hour away from the Oregon Coast via the Sunset Highway (26W), which crosses over the densely wooded Coastal Range, ultimately connecting with US 101. There are plenty of stops to stop and hike along the way, from Saddle Mountain just inland from the coast and Ecola State Park near Cannon Beach. There are also tons of state park-run campgrounds up and down the Oregon Coast, many of which offer tent and RV camping plus full hookups.

The Willamette Valley Wine Country

While Hillsboro has a few small wineries of its own, you'll find a denser concentration of wine-tasting options by heading a bit further south, either via Yamhill and Carlton on Highway 47 or by taking Highway 99W to Newberg and onwards to McMinnville. The Willamette Valley has about two-thirds of Oregon's wineries and is celebrated for its bold Pinots Noirs.

When to go

You'll get the best weather in Hillsboro if you visit between July and September, when the temperatures are generally warm and the chance of rainfall is slim. The rest of the year gets cold and rainy, and while spring and fall do get some pleasant days, it’s hard to gauge when they will be. While the area doesn’t get much snow, freezing rain is a major issue that can lead to dangerously slick roads.
