We offer six shelters and nine primitive tent sites. We are incredibly close to the various trails located across the Cuyahoga Valley. THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE YOU BOOK! 1.WE DO NOT ALLOW FIREWOOD to be brought onto Heritage Farms property due to the potential risk to our crops and according to State and Federal Regulations. Firewood bundles may be purchased when making your reservations or upon arrival at the farm. 2. No vehicles may be driven into the camping area at any time. 3. All vehicles must remain in the designated parking lots 4. Campers are responsible for carrying their gear to their campsites—we provide wheeled carts for your use. 5. Ohio Primitive Camping licensing does not allow wheeled camping on Heritage Farms property. 6. Due to Summit County Health regulations, we cannot provide water. Please bring your own drinking and washing water. Or you may purchase 1-gallon jugs of water when you reserve your site or upon arrival. Our restrooms are porta Johns. 7. Tent sites (labeled A-J) have space for up to 3 tents. Shelter sites (numbered 1-6) have room for up to 2 additional tents. All sites are limited to a maximum of 6 campers 8. Heritage Farms is a working Farm. Please be aware that tractors and other machinery are in use during daylight hours 9. Check-in time is from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. If you’re arriving after 7:00 p.m., please let us know. Checkout time is 10:00 a.m. Please use the dumpster for all trash. Gray water stations are available for the disposal of used water. 10. Only campers registered to HipCamp are permitted to overnight on Heritage Farms property. We do not allow parties and underage or excessive use of alcohol at any time. 11. DOG POLICY: We welcome dogs who have received prior permission from the farm owners. A dog registration form including proof of rabies vaccination must be filled out upon arrival. Unvaccinated dogs are not permitted on the property. Turkey Hollow is nestled in the rolling hills of Holmes County Ohio. We are right on the edge of the largest Amish settlement in the nation. The primitive campground is in the corner of a small 40 acre farm owned by Matt Polcyn. He started the campground 13 years ago because of his love for nature and real camping. He enjoys traveling in many places in the States and the Caribbean islands and loves finding places off of the beaten path and not commercialized. Because of his interest and love for primitive camping he decided to open the campground in order to provide the same opportunity as a getaway primitive camping location that he tries to find when he travels. We now just added a shower in the trees, warm water rinse off area. (this is available between Memorial Day and until it get too cold again in the fall)

The Flying J Farm is 250 beautiful rolling acres including 100 acres of forest, 6-acre lake small pond, three streams, and numerous fields for crops and pastures with cows. The owner bought the farm in 1998 for his retirement from a faculty position at the Ohio State university. Two buildings, the farm house and old barn, are original dating back to 1831. These have been restored for current use. The mission of the farm is to restore health both in people though the products produced and in the land by farming in a sustainable way with no conventional chemicals, antibiotics, and use of GMO. We host many visitors including tours and events. An on farm market is available to visitors for purchase of our products including grass-fed beef, maple syrup, and fruits and vegetables. The cabin was built using wood from the farm. It has off-grid electricity meaning it is powered by batteries charged by solar panels. There is not sufficient power for devices with a heating element such as coffee makers and hair dryers. You may charge cell phones. For any other use, please check with the owner. Wild Life. There is an abundance of wildlife to be observed on the farm. Deer can be seen at dusk, raccoons can be seen going through your camp food at night (if you put it in your car), turkeys, hawks, vultures, rabbits, coyotes (heard screaming at night), frogs (especially heard at night), fish (jumping), and many song birds (my favorite, the bobolink, May and June only, nesting in the pastures). Trash. This sustainable farm has no garbage hauling, please carry away your trash.

We charge by the carload & there are different rates for driving back toward the woods for camping depending on the number of wheels & the weight of your vehicle (a factor on the wear & tear on the land). We believe in going outside to play, growing & eating fresh food, strengthening family bonds and promoting the awareness of our natural resources. PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING: 1) The speed limit is 5 mph as soon as you enter the property (kids & dogs are quick to dart in front of you). 2) As a state registered campground, it is mandatory that you check in at the house to fill out a Registration Form before heading to your campsite. 3) No glass allowed anywhere on the property (we don't want our feet or paws cut open and can do without flat tires). 4) Children under 18 must be attended to at all times for their safety (the frog pool is 10' deep, the pond is 8-10' deep depending on rains, and the creek can turn into a churning river). This property is tucked away and you wouldn’t even know you’re close to town once you’re on site. Valley Vineyards is right down the road to enjoy a bottle of wine and cook your own steak dinner nights. Take a trip to visit Fort Ancient with a day hike. A Native American earthworks complex, the largest hilltop enclosure in the world and soon to be a World Heritage site! Enjoy some canoeing on the Little Miami River a State and National scenic river which is within walking distance. We have kayaks on location for the kids to play in the creek and creeks to hike with numerous fossils deposits. Southwestern Ohio is famous for its Ordovician fossil deposits. Kings Island is approximately 20 minute drive and the Ohio renaissance Festival is near. Caesars creek state park in Cowan lake state park is within a short drive. Smallmouth Bass fishing is awesome on Todd’s Fork and we have plenty of area to Wade fish.

Overgrown and neglected, we have worked hard to make it a nice place for hiking, kayaking, fishing or any number of other activities. Peaceful and remote, the property has a beautiful brook that leads you to the South branch of the Portage river. Deer, turkey, geese, herons, mink and fox are just a few of our natural animal friends. Rusty the steer and his pony friends Lexi and Little Bits can be visited while they graze in the pasture. There are chickens and Brindle the barn kitty. We have the perfect place for dogs as well. We have four dogs that get along great with others and our fenced pond keeps them safe. We allow kayaking in the pond when our dogs are inside. But fishing has been restricted due to unfortunate incidents.

Portable toilets are available, pets are welcome, and campfires are permitted. Naturalist Isabelle H. Klein wrote a collection of letters from her home of Sawdust (named form the sawdust left by the loggers of the early 60’s) for the Cleveland Museum of Natural History’s Explorer Magazine from the winter of 1969 to the summer of 1976. They then were published as the book “Letters From Sawdust” by the Press of Case Western Reserve University for the Museum. It is a lyrical voyage through the seasons at the Sawdust Tract in Northeast Ohio. She details encounters with the wildlife of the area as well as the changing seasons and plant life. Reminiscent of Thoreau's writings about Walden. In 1978 an additional house was moved onto the property from Sidley's gravel pit and joined with the existing Klein farmhouse. We decided to preserve almost 400 acres of the property with the help of the Western Reserve Land Conservatory for the Cleveland Museum Of Natural History, Natural Areas. Forest is home to the red-sided dace, and 10 rare species of birds, including cerulean warblers. The original small family farm and surrounding woods we have retained are being restored and updated. We are proud to call Sawdust home and would love to share it with you.

A toilet and solar shower are located at the center of the property. An outdoor water spigot is also available. Guests are expected to follow the "Leave No Trace" principles. Any trash packed onto the property must be bagged and taken with you.

2 nights at Fruitdale Farm

We all survived our first solo mission! I picked the hottest couple days this month to bring us camping. No sun burns. No ticks… no broken bones, avoided getting poison ivy this year🙌🏻 I recommend Fruitdale Farm in bainbridge for a really wonderful easy getaway. The highlight of the trip was escaping the heat with our feet in the water getting our toes nibbled at the dock. The boys wanted a dip before we headed out… their favorite spot. we headed to the pond this morning with handmade soap from the farm. Going back this fall when it’s not the hottest day of the year. Thank you for creating this wonderful oasis. We’ve been singing your praises. Also a bird visited me in the privy. That was a private moment I enjoyed without my kids☀️

We can’t say enough about our camp hosts, Jay and Heather. They were so welcoming and hospitable. They were very helpful to all our needs, and provided a wealth of information regarding the history of their property, and the surrounding area. If you'd like, they're more than happy to take you on a golf-cart tour of the property. Rusty the cow was adorable, and so were his two little sidekick’s the miniature horses. We planned our camping trip around the Union Pacific's Big Boy locomotive, which was on display in Fostoria for the day. Unfortunately, we succumbed to the great crowds, poor planning, and early closure of the train display—like thousands of other rail fans—and were turned away without seeing it... after waiting three hours in traffic! Jay, our host—who did get in to see Big Boy—felt sorry for us, and gave us his souvenir train-whistle and some post cards from the event, to lift our spirits. The next morning, Jay endeavored to let us know which crossings the train would be heading out on. Thanks to him, we were finally able to see the train! To sum it up, Jay and Heather are a reflection of the kind, outgoing and thoughtful, people you'll meet in-and-around Fostoria—and we met many. All in all, we had a very pleasant stay and plan to return. Thanks Jay & Heather!

Altenbrauch farm was mostly a dream spot. I happened to be the only one there and it was private, and quiet-- save for a few vehicles on the gravel road from time to time and their mowing. I had a shaded spot next to a shallow water course which was excellent given the heat.

We loved the shade on a hot week. If you're used to camping without your normal amenities (electric, running water, etc) this is an amazing place to camp. The staff were nice and the area had lots to do. P.S. the showers at Pilot are $17, are clean, and they give a towel/soap with the shower.

The pond was a great place for reflection. *pun intended*

Weekend Trip to Altenbrauch Farm

We had a wonderful time here. It was spacious and clean and peaceful. The directions from Google were accurate. Limited cell service on T-Mobile. The field was mowed and well cared for. Bugs were moderate at night but we didn't notice any major issues with biting flies or mosquitoes. It was mostly just moths and gnats and the kinds that buzz around your head. We were a little surprised/disappointed that there was not a dumpster or other waste disposal option available on site. We had to travel a fairly long distance with garbage bags on the car to "pack it out". Our particular campsite had lots of broken glass and aluminum cans in the fire pit that we had to cleanup and haul out.

We loved tent camping at Heritage Farms! We chose site J because it was the furthest out and it was perfect! We were just far enough away where we weren't too close to anyone else, but not too far away from our car and the bathrooms. The bathrooms are just a couple porta-potties, but they were so clean and well maintained. We didn't know ahead of time that there was a flea market on Saturday, but it was a lovely surprise! We spent the morning browsing the different stalls and brought home some locally made goods. We didn't interact with the farm staff very much, but the few people we talked to were super friendly and helpful! This was our first tent camping experience so we chose Heritage Farms because it's only 15 minutes from home for us and it was perfect! We really enjoyed our weekend!

We really enjoyed our night here! The directions were very clear and Allison was so kind. The space was clean and peaceful. The animals, especially the goats, were as cute as you can imagine. The barn space is really nice, I wish we had more time to utilize it. Could’ve easily spent another couple days here. Definitely recommend!

Great Lakes Plains

Sandy beaches and island getaways dot the 312-mile shore of Lake Erie, stretching from Toledo through Cleveland to Conneaut. East Harbor State Park is a highlight of the Lake Erie Birding Trail, and birders flock to nearby Maumee Bay State Park during the spring warbler migration. The most scenic spots for summer camping are on the islands, and regular ferries set out for the Bass Islands and Kelleys Island state parks.

Till Plains

Cornfields and farmlands blanket Ohio’s central region, but there are also more than a dozen state parks within a short drive of Columbus. The limestone gorges of John Bryan State Park harbor some of the region’s best hiking trails, while to the north, the Mohican River is one of Ohio’s top spots for canoeing. For beaches, boating, and lakeside campgrounds, Indian Lake State Park and Alum Creek State Park are both popular choices.

Appalachian Plateau

East of the Till Plains, the patchwork farmlands of Amish Country lead the way to the state’s only national park, Cuyahoga Valley. This is where Ohio’s adventurous spirit comes into its own—take a ride on the Cuyahoga Valley Railroad, go ziplining or caving in the Hocking Hills State Park, or enjoy backcountry camping in the heart of the Wayne National Forest.

Bluegrass Region

Rambling woodlands and steep cliffs line the banks of the Ohio River in the state’s southernmost region. Just outside Cincinnati, East Fork State Park has one of the largest state campgrounds in Ohio, while the rugged landscapes of the Shawnee State Park are just a 2-hour drive from the city. For hikers, the ultimate challenge is the North Country National Scenic Trail, which cuts through southern Ohio.
