I stopped in at Hilltop for one night with my pup along a road trip and we had a great time. The tent was super cute and cozy. Loved the little porch. Very clean bathroom facilities too. If we are ever in the area again, we would definitely come back!

We had an amazing time here! The bison tipi was perfect for us and our dogs. The bison tipi had the perfect set up for hammocks to sit back and relax. I would highly recommend this location. It also allows for a good amount of privacy from the other campers. Thank you for the stay!

The tipi and the land around it was amazing. We had everything we needed. Carie’s husband was very helpful when we arrived; I’m also so glad Carie was thoughtful enough to have us change tipi’s d/t the rain on our first night. Despite a little dampness, we stayed nice and warm.

This was our 3rd year staying with Drew and I still can't get over just how beautiful it is out there. The sunsets are some of the most gorgeous I've seen it almost doesn't feel real some of the time. Its so peaceful and the fishing is good its the perfect place for same mental detox and on top of all that the lake is clear and cleaner than you'd belive. On top of all of the beauty drew is an awesome host and a really good dude he makes sure you've got everything you need. I highly recommend you book with him i promise you won't regret it.q

2 nights at Cherokee Valley Bison Ranch Creekside Retreat

A beautiful setting and a wonderful setup! Carie is a great and responsive host, and she and her husband have created a lovely retreat. The tipis are spacious and so well maintained. There’s a fire pit and picnic table, and she included some basics for cooking. And the sights and sounds of the ranch are delightful! Low grunts from the bison, silly calls from the peacocks, and all sorts of birds and other wildlife. Highly recommend staying here!

I couldn't have asked for a more beautiful and peaceful property to stay at. This site was perfect for my 10x14 tent, a hammock and my truck. The flushable toilet in the outhouse was super nice and the hot shower was amazing after a long hike. Margie and Todd are great hosts, couldn't ask for nicer people. They also had some great suggestions for hiking. Thank you again for making our atay so wonderful. Maggie, Zowie and I can't wait to come back.

Located right across the road is the Buckeye Trail that is walked by many hiking enthusiast through the hocking hills region. You can enjoy some peace and quiet at the end of the day around the fire or walking the nearby creek. Please be respectful of our neighbors and stay on your side of the creek. The creek is marked to the right with orange markers and to the left the property ends at the bridge. Pack it in, pack it out: Check your campsite for trash and leftover food, and pack everything out. Please leave the property just like it was when you got there. There is no cell phone service in this area. If you drive about 10 miles to the left up the road you will get a few bars at the Marathon gas station. Appalachian Retreat

Located in the rolling Appalachian hills of Southeast Ohio. This farm has been in our family since 1869 when our relatives settled here from Germany. This particular location was originally a home site for my grandfather's sister, Lizzie. Originally farmed for cattle and sheep with many orchards over the years our property is now mostly mature forest. Southeast Ohio, including our property is known for its hilly topography and microclimates. Hills range from 400 to 1,000 feet. On our property you will find dry ridges with tree species like Chestnut Oak or humid valleys that resemble a moss-covered temperate rain forest from the pacific northwest. Much of our property has now reached late stage mature forests with an open understory. Nearly 500 acres of land with an additional 200+ acres of Wayne National Forest adjacent to our farm and close proximity to other Wayne areas for outdoor activities. We have nearly 10 miles of available trails for hiking. Many activities can be done at or centered around our property such as excellent and challenging road biking, mountain biking, horseback riding, hiking, fishing, kayaking and boating. We are about one mile from the Little Muskingum river. A great river for kayak trips. The Wayne Kinderhook horse and hiking trail is roughly 5 miles from our location. Hike to the Irish Run Natural Land bridge trail also a short drive to the trailhead from our property. Riding your motorcycle up Rt. 26 is great! A great Ohio byway for scenic driving. This is also a great home base for dual sport or adventure bike motorcycle riders to camp while adventuring along gravel roads through Appalachia. If motorcycles aren't your method of entertainment and travel. Bring your horse and ride on several of our trails. From steep ascents to long flat ridge lines, you will have lots of time to immerse yourself with nature while hiking. We're next to a section of the Wayne National Forest and a short drive to other similar Wayne activities. It's a great place to hear a whip-poor-will sing on a spring night while stargazing as you see a satellite zip past in the sky. If you like to camp, but don't want the busy public park experience then you will enjoy the privacy of our camping location. Camp at our main site along the forest edge near the country backroad with a fire ring and mowed grassy area or there are also several backwoods primitive camp sites available for someone who wants to rough it. We are also only about a 20-minute drive to downtown Marietta. Where you can find restaurants, bars, and many other fun activities.

The site on top of the hill is a very secluded and mowed crest of hill surrounded by dogwood trees and the invasive Autumn Olive bushes. The site above the rxrwinery.com is a secluded, mowed clearing in the mature woods. There are also 2 sites in the valley that allow you to be near your vehicle. While on my property, clothing is optional. If you are traveling with an RV, the Sunny Rest location is the best with campfire. This is a valley and may get soft after heavy rain. Please keep wheels near the lane if there's any question to the ground conditions and maneuvering your vehicle, please contact me.

From our parking area, our private campsite is a short walk (3-4 minutes) by way of a well maintained footpath which leads you alongside a farm pasture, to a wooded trail that empties on to a level forest understory ideal for your hammock or tent. Our campsite is equipped with the necessities: a firepit with a removable grill, a table, your own private outhouse, and unlimited sights and sounds of nature. Trails leading from the campsite will usher you short distances to one of our best stargazing hilltops, to the shallow creek which runs alongside the campsite, through shaded forests and ridgetop views. Our pond, a short 7 minute hike, offers fishing, swimming or simply relaxing on the dock. For longer hikes, all trails connect to our larger network of maintained trails winding over hill and dale, through shaded forests and open (mowed) pasture trails offering the hiker farm-life views across our 80 acres. PARKING-There is easy access from the road to assigned parking spots, where you will find a well-maintained area with potable water, solar lighting, port-a-potty, fire extinguisher, shared metal cart and informational sign. You will hike to your reserved and private campsite. If needed and available, there is a metal cart to aid you in transporting your supplies to your site. FIREWOOD – Firewood bundles are for sale at a nearby property. Hocking Vacations Campsites are large, cleared areas located amidst towering trees and surrounded by lush foliage. Learn more about this land: I'm an artist and my husband and I have a small homestead with chickens and sometimes sheep/goats. Look out for electric netting to keep our herd/flock protected. The lighting over our back field is divine in the late afternoon, or if you prefer a wooded setting, we have a small wooded area across the street from our house. The area is hilly and rather private-- only one neighbor is visible when the trees are leafed out. Electric is accessible from an outlet at the backyard fence or in the barn. We often have fresh veggies and fruit in the garden in the summer, and sometimes extra farm fresh eggs. Nearby (10 minute drive) is Hargus lake, with boat rental and fishing. Also nearby is the Slate Run Historical Farm, (15 minute drive) which is a farm that is fully functioning as a farm from the 1880's with sheep, draft horses, hogs, and poultry at Slate Run Metro park, which has many woodland and wetland trails, as well as a covered bridge and several playgrounds. We are about 35 minutes from the Hocking Hills area, which is one of the most beautiful and unique areas in Ohio.

We are willing to rent out our kayaks and bicycles and transport those to close by locations for your fun adventure. The farm offers many nice vistas for tent camping or setting up a small camper as long as you don't mind being totally off the grid. We are close to the Moonville Rails to trails for great hiking, biking and horse back riding. We also offer stalls if you would like to bring your own equine and explore the area. For those of you who want to bring your large horse trailer, you can rent my small goose neck which holds three horses to travel to your local fun destinations.
