Weekend Trip to Magical Riverside Yurt w/hot tub

JoDee's Yurt was extremely relaxing. There are plenty of activities to do in and around the area and nearby Floyd has good food and shops. There was fishing gear and kindling that we didn't use but thought was a great addition to have. The bed was more comfortable than we had anticipated which was a good surprise.

Weekend Trip to Holly Ridge Retreat

We really enjoyed our stay at Holly House! They thought of everything you could possibly need! The house itself is a gold mine of nooks and crannies and is fun to explore. The land is beautiful. We saw lots of deer and the lightening bugs were beautiful. They had firewood and a fire pit and tons of games. They even left hand written directions to Grayson Highlands. It was a great stay!! Highly recommend!!

Weekend Trip to The River's Edge

The route getting to the property is through some amazingly scenic rural roads of Floyd county. The river that the property is on is wonderful, it was not a raging wide river, it is however a good sized river and her site #2 that we stayed at was an incredible riverfront site. The site itself on the river is somewhat small, and it is adjacent to (and at the end of) a state maintained gravel road, but once we were set up any traffic that would come by (one pickup rode by a couple times going to / from the farm at the end of the road) was nothing compared to what you'd have at a campground. There is a fire pit where we enjoyed a terrific campfire with lots of riverwood / drift wood to feed the fire for several hours. The sound of the river was peaceful and calming to fall asleep to and to wake up beside in the morning and that was the magic.

5 nights at A Most Steller Place Too

Wonderful spot. We had a great time. Very relaxing and quiet. The yurt had all the kitchen cooking essentials for meals and the bathroom was very nice. Our 2 GSDs had a lot of fun exploring the area and there was plenty of space for their beds in the living area. We didn’t really explore the town or near by attractions(the grocery store was about 15 mins away so that was great), just enjoyed the nature and view.

It was so beautiful and peaceful. Much needed for our family. We ventured down to explore Floyd and love the doghouse pizza! we also hiked to the winery from the camp, great walk, we had a bunch of fun. We definitely plan on coming back.

This was my first time ever using hipcamp and I could not have chosen a better place. Jodee was a wonderful host, and the yurt was indeed magical! It was so cozy and had everything we needed to be comfortable. We built a fire one night in the fire pit with the firewood that was provided. We also drove the buggy down some lovely trails and saw so many deer! I would absolutely stay here again, and have already told a friend about it who is interested after seeing the pictures from our trip. Can’t say enough good things about this place and Jodee!

Jessup Mill

Hi there. Here is a little rundown of everything we do at the mill…. So, as far as camping, there are two main options on either side of the river; the mill yard or primitive camping across the river. In the mill yard, we do festival style camping, meaning that there are no individual campsites per se, but rather a large grassy lawn near the mill and bathhouse with shared fire pits, picnic tables, charcoal grill, and sinks for water/dishes. We also have two platforms up in the woods that are good for a little more privacy and are completely shaded, but do require a small climb up the hill. The bathhouse has three restrooms and hot showers in each. Across the river, there are several more primitive sites that are generally very private and offer great sounds coming from the river and waterfall, but no facilities. Most sites are car accessible, and a 5 minute walk back over to the mill (or a 1 minute drive). Lastly, our newest camping spot on the primitive side is a river front beach right by the dam with space for a several medium sized tents and a private fire pit. The beach is hike-in only (2-3 minutes along a mostly flat trail). Our normal rate is $10 per person per night. Firewood is available for $10 per wheelbarrow load. We accept cash, credit card, Venmo, Paypal, and crypto. We are also fairly flexible on check in/check out times, but just let us know if you’ll be arriving at odd hours. Dogs are generally welcome as long as they are kept on leash. Here is a little rundown of tubing at the mill (May-October, weather permitting). We have two tubing options available. We have a short Fun Run that takes roughly 45 minutes, and cost $10 per person for as many rides as you’d like. The river bends sharply like a horseshoe in this section, so it makes everything accessible by foot traffic. It’s a 3 minute walk up the trail to the dam, put in and float 30-45 minutes (depending on water level), then a 5-10 minute walk back to the mill carrying your tube. There is also the longer Forks Run, which last 3-4 hours (~2.5 river miles), and costs $15. For this, we shuttle you up the river in a vehicle, and you float back to the top of the dam, then 3 minutes walking back to the mill. Most weekends, tubing starts at 11 am and the last Forks Shuttle is around 3 pm, with the Fun Run staying open till around 5. Also, with enough heads up, we can sometimes arrange for trips during the week. Our tubes are required for each person floating for insurance and liability reasons, but you are welcome to bring your own cooler tubes to carry drinks and snacks. Technically, alcohol is not permitted on the river, but what is in your cooler is your business. Either way, please bring ALL trash out with you! Water shoes are recommended, and we have life jackets on request. Most of our tubes come with bottoms and back rests, but a few are open to the water. Most weekends, reservations are not required, but it does help tremendously if we know when you want to come and how many in your group. Nestled on the ridges of Bull Mountain in Stuart, Virginia, we live in a small community connected by steep, winding dirt roads (4WD strongly encouraged)! Right now, we offer multiple primitive camp sites with a porta-john in a central location. We have sites down by a creek or up on a ridge with views of the 3000ft Bull Mtn peaks. This is a safe, beautiful area to visit nearby Floyd, a nearby kayak rental shuttle service, breweries, a meadery 2 miles away, and many other unique finds. Beautiful Mountain View’s and backwoods drive. A unique wool farm is just down the dirt road with a cash only roadside stand.

Country Meadows

Located less than a mile from the Blue Ridge Parkway, this little hayfield is nestled just a skip away from Mabry Mill (the most photographed spot on the parkway), Villa Appalachia (quant Italian style winery), Chateau Morrisette (larger tourist winery), Nancy's Fudge (a little candy factory and shop), and hiking trails of varying lengths with epic views (Black Ridge Trail and Rock Castle Gorge Trail). Each of these is under 5 miles from our camp spot. Yet, if you are also hoping to hop out of your camper and WALK somewhere, there is a hike that leads you directly up to Chateau Morissette. The property itself is a hayfield that typically has a couple of cuttings each summer. There just happens to be a full hook up campsite located at the edge of the property that someone should be enjoying. The property owner (my dad, who is in his mid 70s and doesn't internet so well) lives in a log home that is across the field on the adjacent property. He is probably going to stop by to say hi. He is a pretty friendly guy. Learn more about this land: Set atop a hillside overlooking a hayfield, this camper/motor home spot includes internet, 50 AMP, water & sewer hookups. The location offers a covered pull thru carport style parking space as well as a porch swing and pergola with a picnic table.
