Weekend Trip to Mountain Creek Rest

A little bit of Shangri-La in Western North Carolina. Campsite was immaculate with amazing setting next to a beautiful stream which provides great background noise, not that any is needed because it is very private. The water also helps keep the surrounding air cooler as it was at least 5-10 degrees cooler than Robbinsville which is 20 minutes away. Met the owner Brian who is a skilled carpenter and it shows in the work he has done to the campsite. Outhouse only (very clean), bring your own water and wood.

Paul’s land is a peaceful beautiful spot to get lost and unplug for a while. I stayed a night to avoid an early morning drive to a fishing trip in Beaufort. The site is very conveniently located near all of the best attractions and fun activities the area has to offer. On site you’ll find great amenities to keep yourself showered, and fed. Each campsite has its own unique personality to it. I will definitely return for a multi-night stay and bring my family along.

I have booked Hipcamps that cost twice as much and not half as nice. We absolutely loved our stay at the Island Site. Brian has put so much time and love into these camp sites. We will definitely be back. When we camped in early May, no issues with mosquitos, but bring some repellant as it gets warmer would be safe. Bring some dry kindling for your fire. This is a very tropical area, so everything on the ground is always a bit moist. If your tent requires stakes, bring some line so you can stake off of the level platform.

Weekend Trip to Spruill Conservation Farm

Camping on Julia’s property was amazing! The view was so relaxing, the walking trails were filled with amazing natural scenery. Each campsite was far enough to still have privacy at your own camp. The feeling of waking up to a beautiful sunrise, throw a fishing line in, start a morning fire and cook breakfast all in the same area was so wonderful.

Stayed at campsite 1 with a roof top tent. Amazing location, we were able to pull right alongside the firepit and benches along the river, couldn't have been a better set up. Very quiet and peace full spot. the host was extremely polite.

5 nights at Spruill Conservation Farm

This is my 2nd visit. I got lucky and had the whole place to myself for most of my stay! Clean, quiet and beautiful views! I think I saw 3 boats the whole 5 days I was there. I was visited by Tom Turkey a few times and a raccoon was in the area from his little footprints. You will see so many different types of birds, geese, lizards, jumping fish, hawks, eagles, osprey… even one bird that I still haven’t identified. Bring all your water for cooking and drinking. I even have a heated shower, so I brought water for that. Mostly stayed in camp, one day I did go to Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge to photograph the bears. If you truly want to disconnect and relax with nature, this is the place to do it.

2 nights at Mountain Creek Rest

Brian has created a beautiful oasis in the middle of the wild NC mountains! The Islandsite is surrounded by rushing mountain streams on either side. It hit the sweet spot of feeling both safe and private. And Brian hit the perfect balance of being welcoming and informative while also giving you space and privacy. My dog LOVED being able to wander the island off-leash and I loved hearing the roar of the water instead of the roar of engines chasing the Dragon nearby. The hiking was gorgeous, the bathroom clever and clean, and there are sweet little treasures (both man and nature made) to be found on the island. DO put Cedar Cove Church in your GPS and follow Brian's excellent directions from there, otherwise you will end up on Dirk (?) something road which is VERY sketching but doable. Smokey and I both thank you Brian for a wonderful time!

We strive to create an environment for nature viewing, stargazing, fishing, and unwinding in nature as camping should be. the historic pond was originally much smaller. We have records that date back to our 6th Great-Grandfather, Joab Fountain, who received a royal grant from the crown in 1773 for the property and then just a grist mill, blacksmith shop and old general store. The property was passed down through the Fountain family until the late 1910's. Originally a creek dammed up for the purpose of the mill it was later dug out in the late 1940's by Lee Baysden. In a long story (that can soon be found on our website/blog) the land was auctioned off in 2007. This landowner dug it out and made it the 22-acre lake that it is today. The property also features 2 smaller ponds and surrounded by woods, swamp, and farmed fields, a total of 84 acres. Divided by Duplin and Onslow County line making it very unique! Chinquapin, NC The store/office is the original detached kitchen from his homeplace, which is the white house just up the street. We still use this today and it has Mr. Lee Baysden's handwriting in the store that states opened June 1956. The pond was owned and fished until the late 1990's. A hurricane damaged the dam and land was sold sometime after. The next owner dug the pond into the lake it is today and fixed the dam. In 2020 My husband Tyler, and I decided to buy the Pond when we saw the signs up for sale in the height of the pandemic. We created JCO, Juniper Creek Outfitters and Guide Service, fall 2020 and began to restore the lake and land to better than ever! We introduced our first Glamping A-Frame cabin in 2021 and in 2024 the Floating Cabin. We host community events such as fishing tournaments, music, movie nights, and food trucks. We also host special occasions in the cabins from engagements, honeymoons, birthdays anniversaries. Youth groups and scouts also welcome. Ask about special pricing. Dark Ridge Hide Out (Adults Only)

"Adults only" doesn't mean anything other than just "no children", so as to preserve the natural peace and quiet, and assurance that there won't be loud and unruly children on the property. Inquiries and booking requests received after 9: pm may not be answered until the next morning. Dark Ridge Hide Out, is a 20 acre parcel in the Blue Ridge Mountain's on the back side of the Beech Mt Ski Resort in a secluded quiet and safe community with less than a dozen homes in a one mile radius. Away from light and sound pollution. Except for an occasional passing vehicle "and often none at all from 10pm to 6am" all you will hear is the sound of the creek which runs through the lower section by the RV sites, cricket's and frogs at the nearby fish pond and only the light from the moon and star's in the clear mountain sky and fire flies. It is my home place with a tobacco barn and a big combination cattle/tobacco barn built almost entirely just by my Mom and Dad in early 1940"s. My parents and grand parents lived off of the land here and raised cash crops like cabbage, corn and tobacco, we also raised sugar cane and made molasses, we had free range chickens, as many as 50 honey bee hives and over 50 head of cattle, two or three hog's and of course a horse. There was four main fields; two for cow pasture, one meadow to grow hay "now Christmas trees" and the main one on my part where all crops were grown is where the camp sites are. I grew up helping with the crops and other farm chores, one was to go to the pasture and bring the milk cows in and do the milking every day before and after school, feed the hogs and chickens, gather the egg's, let the chickens out in the morning and close the chicken house in the evening to protect them from critters like opossums, raccoons and wildcats. This is where I grew up, my dad grew up and, near where my mother and both of my grandparents grew up. My house was built in 1905 the same year my dad was born. The campsites are on my 20 acre section section of the original 82 acres with the house and barns, the remainder went to my brother but now is out of the family. The section of Elk River with the Compression Falls "45 ft high" and Twisting Falls which is part of Pisgah National Forest is less than two miles from here, and an old logging road going around the mountain above the river for about three miles to another Falls "Elk River Falls, 65 ft high" is a great place to hike or mountain bike. You will be free to explore and hike any part of my property except the house and out building's. The pond's are full of Trout and Blue Gill fish that are like pet's they love little pieces of bread. You can feed the fish but no fishing.

Add them as extra guests Pull down a paved road and get out of your car and sit down at a picnic table in front of a private waterfall! This site has a pull through, full hookup spot with 30amp for campers but tents are always welcome or a combination of the two. I've had a 33' camper, popup camper and 6 tents at this campsite all at the same time so there plenty of room for your family and friends! We're 2.5 miles from the Cherokee Casino and 3.5 miles from down town Cherokee If you're tired of crowded campgrounds then you'll love the privacy this campground offers. This is now a two site campground with each site being around 100' away from the other site with trees and vegetation growing in between, you more or less cant see on site from the other from May until November. There is a orange cone that marks the border of the two sites. One set of campers will not be allowed on the other campers campsite, if this happens you will be evicted with no refund. Check in is at 2pm and check out is at 12pm. No shooting firearms, (although you may hear people shooting firearms because you will be camping in the mountains) but your more than welcome to bring your firearms. Its better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. No fireworks. No making trails or collecting firewood (This is not because I want to sell you firewood, its because I want to have the property remain as pristine as possible) Do not cut down trees alive or dead If you move picnic tables please move them back Dogs are permitted but message me first to see if your do will be a good fit. There is a small Church around 200 yards from the campground. They hold services every Wednesday and Sunday. They generally start around 5pm and it lasts around a hour. If your into that they would love to have you come down. The EBCI opened a dispensary around 3 miles from the campground. It will open to all adults over 21 starting September 7th 2024. Please note that due to the campground being in low-lying land, the drive in is subject to being slick and muddy, 4WD is always recommended. Message us with any questions. Due to the property proximity to the river and situated in floodway, the sites are subject to flooding during heavy rain events. Voluntary and/or mandatory evacuation may be necessary during any reservation due to high waters or forecast for high water events.
