Experienced hikers come to the Devil's Path to tackle one of the country's most difficult--and dangerous--hiking trails. The path takes hikers over some of the highest peaks, including Hunter Mountain. In the winter, this mountain is a major thrill for skiers and snowboarders. The Hunter Mountain Skyride has chair lifts that take you to the top most days of the year.

The Esopus Creek offers some of the best fly fishing in the country, particularly for trout. For a home base, check out the Kenneth L. Wilson campground, just a short drive from Mt. Tremper. The ground is on Wilson Lake and has a fishing pier to cast off into the shallow water.

You can also explore the Catskill Forest Preserve by water, following the many tributaries and lakes. Little Pond campground is a nice jumping off point. In addition to tent sites, there are several remote campgrounds off the beaten path for more seclusion. Just down the road are Big Lake and Alder Lake, two favorite spots for flat-water paddling. It’s considered a sacred site central to local land rematriation work with the Kanienkeha:ka. Coursing between two outcroppings in a deep ravine, the waterfall crashes down over mossy rock shelves into emerald swimming holes and through dramatic clay beds. It’s one of those extraordinarily beautiful spots on earth that make you feel like you are in another world. It's about a 10 minute hike to the waterfall where you can spend the day swimming, exploring the clay beds and looking for fossils in the 280 million year old gorge. In the evening, make a campfire and fall asleep under the stars listening to the river below. The hike is steep and appropriate footwear is required. All hiking is at your own risk. Although your path to the waterfall is private and the waterfall is on private property, there may be other guests or locals that access the waterfall further down the road. There is no glass or alcohol allowed at the falls. Be aware that you may hear your camping neighbors in the woods. For this reason, we ask that you don’t play amplified music and keep noise down after 10pm to enjoy the sounds of frogs, crickets, owls, and night songs of the countryside At the entrance to the campsites there is a barn community room with a charging station, cold water sink, fridge, coffee maker, cookware, and a port-a-potty. There are 5 gallon solar shower bags that you can use at your campsite. You are responsible for filling them and putting them in the sun to heat the water. This is a leave no trace site. Take all your trash with you when you leave. Bring your own biodegradable soap for dishes and toilet paper for the port-a-potty! Firewood is available onsite for $1 per log. The Schoharie Valley is said to be the most fertile valley east of the Mississippi. It is still wild, unspoiled country and there are many local farms stands with fresh produce and organic meat close by. Within a 5 miles radius is a general store, Scrumpy Ewe Cidery, Panther Creek Arts, Rooted Movement, the Sap Bush Country Store and Café, and Mustang Valley (a wild mustang sanctuary). Nearby hikes include Looking Glass Pond and Vroman's Nose, and others.

The River's Edge campsites sit on the shoreline of the Delaware River at the western edge of New York State overlooking the mountains of Pennsylvania. Our canvas tents and open air platforms perch between the river and the former Delaware & Hudson Canal which was once was used to transport raw goods by barge to New York City via the 'port' of Port Jervis. The remnants of the canal walls are throughout the property including a 300 person theater which we created to both preserve and feature this industrial history. It also makes a great place for an event or a movie night. Today, the original canal towpath, along which barges would be pulled and floated downstream, is a trail that links all of the campsites over 5 acres and at the furthest end an eel fishing camp that is in operation from June to October (say 'hi' to Jim). In the early 1900s, the train replaced the canal as the primary method of moving goods into New York and if you are lucky — you will hear the train rumble by along the river on the Pennsylvania side. There is something spectacular in the absolute still and grandness of the river, the mountains and the ongoing industrial history of the valley. It is a reminder of the way things used to be. The farmhouse and cabins are located opposite the campsites on other side of route 97. Next to them are 50 acres of wild forest to hike and explore. These accommodations are great for guests who want more amenities but still with easy access to river. Pair campsites and cabins so that all your guests have their best experience. Wahl Dairy Farm has been a family run and owned small farm since 1921 when August Wahl moved their family to Callicoon. August was a butcher by trade, and the farm started as a family homestead, raising their own chickens and cows with the help of a few horses and of course August's father who was very handy and could make axe handles and wooden wheel spokes. The Wahl homestead became Wahl Dairy Farm in the 1940s when August started selling milk, two or four cans at a time, to the creamery. August's son, Vernon, took over the business and built it up; at one point about 100 cows were being milked! Vernon's son Ross took over the farm in 1995 and diversified it. Ross regularly raises chickens and pigs and grows pumpkins, in addition to the 40 or so milking cows currently on the farm (there are also calves and heifers). The farm is about 200 acres in total, including 15 acres of woods, 15 acres of "hunting" land (deer and rabbits roam free in the scrub), and close to 150 acres in production with pasture and hay. We never feed corn silage! We believe the corn gives the milk a more sour taste (you are what you eat!). We're proud that we've always been in grassland and committed to raising a mostly grass fed dairy herd, a quality not found in many diary farms today. We're excited to share this place with you! Riverside Farm offers 1600 feet of direct river access, ponds, rolling meadows and woodlands. You’ll have 50 acres of freedom to enjoy at your leisure. There are convenient walking paths cut throughout the property to help guide you. The farm is yours to explore, check out the beautiful, historical barns, old school hand water pumps, the old-world windmill and other hidden treasures. All the campsites have plenty of space between each other (roughly 300 ft), and they all have their own access points to the river. We are approximately 1.5 miles from Angry Orchard Cider House. The new City Winery in Montgomery is minutes away. We are located right in the middle of the Shawangunk Wine Trail and have dozens of wineries and craft breweries within 20 miles of the farm. World class hiking trails and breathtaking views await at Minnewaska State Park and Mohonk Mountain House, both just 15 miles away. The Bashakill Preserve is home to some of the best bird watching in the Northeast and is 5 miles away. The walkway over the Hudson and fine dining options at Newburgh's waterfront are also within a short 20 minute drive. The Shawangunk, Wallkill and Hudson Valley rail trails are easily accessible for those wanting to bike or jog. Wahl Dairy Farm has been a family run and owned small farm since 1921 when August Wahl moved their family to Callicoon. August was a butcher by trade, and the farm started as a family homestead, raising their own chickens and cows with the help of a few horses and of course August's father who was very handy and could make axe handles and wooden wheel spokes. The Wahl homestead became Wahl Dairy Farm in the 1940s when August started selling milk, two or four cans at a time, to the creamery. August's son, Vernon, took over the business and built it up; at one point about 100 cows were being milked! Vernon's son Ross took over the farm in 1995 and diversified it. Ross regularly raises chickens and pigs and grows pumpkins, in addition to the 40 or so milking cows currently on the farm (there are also calves and heifers). The farm is about 200 acres in total, including 15 acres of woods, 15 acres of "hunting" land (deer and rabbits roam free in the scrub), and close to 150 acres in production with pasture and hay. We never feed corn silage! We believe the corn gives the milk a more sour taste (you are what you eat!). We're proud that we've always been in grassland and committed to raising a mostly grass fed dairy herd, a quality not found in many diary farms today. We're excited to share this place with you! In addition there is excellent cell phone service on the farm! Great for digital nomads and everyone who needs to stay connected. The site is the second highest point in Sullivan County. Osa Trail site rests on a secluded hilltop bordering Sundown Wild Forest with SPECTACULAR VIEWS of hills and valleys. You can see all the way to The Berkshires on clear days. At night, it's the Milky Way, so bring your telescope. There is a beautiful "secret" mountain stream waterhole within a 7-minute walk from the tent. Bring your towels. Right along the driveway leading to the campsite there is a shale outcrop, full of fossils, mostly prehistoric leaves and branches, but also occasional Brachiopods - yours for the taking. This property was once a working apple orchard. Over regulation made it very difficult to manage so we let it lie foul for years. Then we let a fellow farmer use it to graze his cattle. Now our children has taking it over and are raising beef cattle on the property. Our campsite lies on the beautiful two and a half century old LeFevre family farmstead with rich history and stunning views of the Shawangunk Mountain ridge. The property is on a 40-acre old apple orchard that is super private and filled with dramatic views and spectacular sunsets. Wake up in your tent to the sounds of birds chirping, roasters crowing and cows just close enough but just far enough way. On occasion there may be a person driving by to tend to the cattle.

There is no cell service on or close to the property, so save or print your maps before you leave and follow the white oval signs to the campsite. 1.1 miles of upper Esopus Creek awaits visitors for fishing native Brook Trout, hiking, swimming, and sunbathing. We have two clean pit toilets, a spring-fed gravity water system, three wash stations, and two showers. A wash station is available at the showers, the kitchen, and the toilets. A large kitchen area with a 16-foot-long counter and a picnic table is also available by the communal fire pits. Please note, quiet hours are from 11 PM to 7 AM. Strictly enforced. No exceptions. Theres something really special about this place! The horses are amazing, the land and trails are beautiful and the people are nice and friendly! My old van made it easily up the hill and the parking was nice and flat and the power hookup very good! My dogs also had a great time! The WiFi worked very well on the iPad but the phones struggled a bit. But really I have to dedicate some words to the horses: oh my, what beautiful animals they are! And they are all rescue! Mama and Lacey stole my heart!

This place was so great that when I sent photos to my wife she told me to get three more nights, called out sick from work on Friday and hopped on a bus to meet me. Hiking path. Clean. Nicely mowed. You can barely see your neighbor over the meadow. In my wife's book it gets extra credit for being down the street from a historic church - we walked there on Sunday for services.

This was perfect! We stayed for a night on a cool fall night. Lots of space, and included a picnic table and fire ring. The brewery was great (we were there on a Saturday) the portapotty is a bit of a walk from this particular site, but it wasn’t too bad! The farmers market was walkable, but also a short drive. Be sure to check out the farmers market while you are there! Would definitely stay again.
